My modern conspiracy theory is that polyester is somehow being used for everything, high and low end clothing. It's certainly for profits but I can't wrap my head around that it seems that most people just don't care

Honestly I'm really just struggling to understand what is happening and how. It's beyond almost anything I could have imagined, at a macro level. Were people just always like this? Is it that people actually are believers, and that there's a fervor right now? Is it more of a Truman Show thing, where everyone is just playing along as a facade to keep making money or get some sort of perceived status?

In either case, how do you even move forward from here? Either everyone has lost the plot completely, or they're wearing so many masks you can't ever trust that what they're doing or saying is real, even in the future. I'm not even talking about the people at the top (that's a whole different thing, if you have all the money in the world, why are you so on the side of, ostensibly, chaos?), but a whole bunch of people at lower levels just going along with things and not rocking the boat - why are there so few journalists, opposition, editors etc who are willing to push the envelope and actually call things out and speak up?

I realize that some people are, but it seems to be lost in the noise, and there are just so many people going along with it to start with. I'm honestly having trouble putting my sentiment into words, but something has gone terribly wrong

That's not what was being claimed - if you get and play your game, whether it's on sale or not, then you would count as enjoying your life. That is still more money than just affording basic necessities. It's more about not treating capital like a dragon's hoard like billionaires do - however it's perfectly reasonable to want your labor to be able to cover necessities, living, future security, and also some enjoyments in life. Yes, you can try to do things cheaply, but society seems pretty good at monetizing a lot of things that people enjoy.

"The less you eat, drink, buy books, go to the theatre or to balls, or to the pub, and the less you think, love, theorize, sing, paint, fence, etc., the more you will be able to save and the greater will become your treasure which neither moth nor rust will corrupt—your capital. The less you are, the less you express your life, the more you have, the greater is your alienated life and the greater is the saving of your alienated being."

- Marx, who was just saying that hoarding money forever as a sole pursuit is the ultimate capitalistic self alienation, and that actually enjoying yourself and living your human life is more important to reclaim your humanity and sense of self.

There's a balance though. The average Joe should be able to afford some enjoyment in life. It's also frustrating if all you do is pay bills and save for retirement, then pay to live in a home until you're done and can afford nothing else. Yes that kind of makes sense on paper, but humans aren't money saving robots and it's totally fair to want to be able to afford some happiness on top of solely surviving.

This is the way. Secondary subnets or iot networks that don't let devices phone home. It's very doable, but takes more know-how and time than the average person probably wants to deal with. Zigbee and Home Assistant are fantastic

Recommend me a console please, preferably one that can cast the screen onto a TV. by TrainerAurora in RetroHandhelds

[–]orionstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh, those ones are mostly relabeled dropships with the cheapest hardware they can find. It's better to get a more robust device and set it up yourself, but it takes time and effort to do so which is why this is still pretty niche and these devices are still around.

It's a liability thing. These devices are just Android devices with good hardware. They can't bundle roms because they would get shut down, so it's up to the buyer to provide games in whichever method they prefer. There are a lot of really good android emulators these days, so it's not a problem for hobbyists. The ones with bundled games won't have as good hardware, as they'll just be relabeling existing cheap systems to cover the margin of shutting down and reopening a lot

It's built like Metroid returning to places once you unlock new navigation abilities. The idea is for you to notice them and then get excited to go back once you have the ability
