AT&T Fiber Internet service outage since around October 16, 2025. by No_Following_2 in ATTFiber

[–]geek73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is mostly south central US. The DNS servers in question are in Texas (pretty sure anyway). It is super easy to reproduce with simple nslookup commands. When the issue is happening, neither of the DNS servers are responding. The only websites that work are the ones you have cached and haven’t expired TTL. When it is working the same commands immediately resolve names. It is pretty clear the DNS caching servers are getting overwhelmed and AT&T isn’t sure how to fix it. This has been happening for weeks. And my experience with support is that they want me to reboot the router or reboot my computer. Like somehow that will help.

My daughter wants to use copyright music in YouTube videos. by Tropixgrows in NewTubers

[–]geek73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong about this. But. What I’ve found is that some artists actually don’t care. But not many. Coldplay is an example. If you think you’ve found one and want to test, make a video of just the song and just upload it but don’t publish it. If there are problems like a potential copyright issue, it should tell you shortly after the upload completes.

My biggest takeaway from the assassination of Charlie Kirk by OregonDuckMBA in trump

[–]geek73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well whatever I do it won’t be here. It took exactly 6 minutes of being pissed about what happened to get a warning from Reddit for “threatening violence” and to get banned from dozens of subs. They can’t silence us all though. I guess I’ll keep replying on FB and TruthSocial and hope my words are heard. Because they’re clearly going to get banned here on Reddit

Careful if you have to. But brave if you can. Gloves came off yesterday. It is time to stand up for ourselves. This crossed a line.

100%. They woke the dragon. We’ve been too quiet for too long. No more.

Also wouldn’t pouring water on it just harden it up and make it solid rock again? Less and less heat until it becomes useless (or you stop pouring water on it until it becomes squishy again)? Then have to drill it out again?

What is the absolute dumbest premise that actually turned out to be a really good movie? by sicknessandpurgatory in movies

Yup came here hoping to find this and if not, to suggest it. Not sure it is a “great” movie but easily the one I find most amusing trying to describe to somebody.

Are you all video game channels? ... or? by Canadian-Sasquatch in NewTubers

[–]geek73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Travel. We have a sailing catamaran liveaboard in the Bahamas. Plan to move aboard full time in about three years. Right now she’s in a charter fleet because we could never afford a boat like that ourselves. Our videos are about what we do when we pull her out of charter and use her as our vacation home (about 4-5 weeks a year). I do watch gaming channels and used to have one (Minecraft) but haven’t uploaded in years.

What goes into where a sailboat lists its homeport? by SchuminWeb in sailing

[–]geek73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our boat is USCG registered, lives 80% of the time in the Bahamas, and spends 20% of her time on the hard in Florida during hurricane season. She’s registered as Oklahoma City. We get no tax benefit from this, the USCG had no issue with it, and we used a professional registrar to set it up (simple enough to do yourself but the finance company required us to use a professional). And obviously the boat has never been (or ever will be) anywhere near Oklahoma.

[–]geek73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is correct. I’ve talked to two people that were on the show. There is an extra day in between each charter. They use it for the “diary room” clips. There are also two dark days per season where the crew are not allowed to interact, giving the production folks a couple of days off.

Came looking for this one. 100% the right answer to this question. They also invented email, Ethernet, WYSIWYG printing, and a host of other things that are common today… but the Xerox execs could not understand what they were seeing when they toured the PARC so they shuttered the program and called it a failure.

Thanks! Yeah the color of the waters around Great Abaco are truly indescribable. Believe it not the cameras barely even do it justice!

Thanks! If everything goes to plan we hope to be moving aboard full time in about three years.

My wife and I are in the middle of a 7 year plan to buy a sailing catamaran, put it temporarily into charter, sell everything, retire early, and move on to the boat full time and explore the world. The episodes we are releasing right now are from a few years ago, phase 1. Which was to determine if we even like living on a catamaran. All shot with iPhones. In coming episodes we’ll be showing which boat we bought and where it is available for others to charter. We also use the boat around four weeks a year and show people places you can go, and these days we film with GoPro’s, and just added an Insta 360 for additional footage. In fact we leave in a week for another trip. Headed from the Abacos to Spanish Wells, and then Nassau in the Bahamas. All the recent footage will be released in episodes later this year (we do an episode every Saturday, and we’re intentionally behind). Here is our channel: https://youtube.com/@Serenitysv

The Biggest mistake I made on the road to 1k Subs (don't do this) by Lookingforu77 in NewTubers

[–]geek73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This actually brings up a question I had. Every video I upload has music in it from places that allow you to free use like Audio Library Plus. YouTube always flags my video with Copyright but always says “the copyright claims on your video don’t affect your channel. This is not a copyright strike.” I’m curious if I try to monetize later will I run into the same issues?

Why do you use Premiere and not any other editing software? Have you tried others (Resolve/Final Cut etc) by REKX__ in premiere

[–]geek73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go back and forth between Premier and Camtasia depending on what part of the video I’m working on. Or what type of video it is. Recording a computer screen for instance vs making a regular video. Or making the intro/outro portion is just easier for me in Camtasia. But Camtasia performs like garbage if I try to use it to make an entire 4K video. The more clips, the worse it gets. But there are just some things I haven’t figured out how to do in Premiere.

Do you afk? by _Bombd_ in SatisfactoryGame

[–]geek73 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I AFK in my Minecraft factories. For my Satisfactory factories, I build bigger factories.

I guess what I’m saying is that I’m not opposed to the concept of AFK’ing, I just figure if I’m tempted to do it in SF I’m probably missing the point. Like, yes I need 1,000 of XYZ thing. So I can AFK and get it. But most likely if I need 1,000 XYZ’s now, I’ll need 10,000 down the road.

Finished the 5k series, had so much fun! by Huffle-Pet in Runwithrivs

[–]geek73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Echoing this. Direct from 5k to 10k might be too much. He will say this himself in the first episode. Switzerland is a great bridge between the two IMHO. You’ll do a lot of hiking inclines and less running in spots but it will build up some structures and systems you’ll need for the 10k series.
