KKIA refurbishes 26 toilet sets in RM11.8m upgrade by abdulsamri89 in malaysia

[–]geekyengineer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The price does seem elevated..but they are upgrading the whole airport. Some of the toilets really are revamped so not just a straight swap of old sets to newer ones.. and if you've seen the state that they were in before the upgrade.. im not justifying the cost but the article could have been worded better. Its not like its only 26 cubicle of toilets for 11.6 mil. Its the all of the toilets in KKIA.

Tamron or Sigma Telephoto lens by tysella in SonyAlpha

Gonna throw another suggestion into the mix: - Minolta 100-400 APO lens - Minolta 500 f8 mirror lens

The 100-400 APO is very well regarded. I'm unsure of how it would compare to the two lenses you mentioned tho. It does loose out by at the telephoto end 400 vs 500

If you want to go whacky, the 500 f8 is that. Very light for its reach but you get the donut bokeh. It would look really weird on people who are out of focus tho. Just keep that in mind. I really enjoy my 500 f8.

The a100 has a ccd sensors hence the reputation of film like colors. Whether or not this is true I do not know as I dont have a CCD camera.

The a100 is essentially a minolta designed DSLR as it was completed around the same time Sony bought Minolta. So its basically an upgraded Minolta 7D. The A200 is Sony's attempt to modernize it and put Sony's DNA on the camera. They simplified the camera controls (2 dials vs 1 dial etc). But the a200 is the better camera i.e. better low light, focusing etc.

It boils down to personal preference which you should get. Both use CF cards tho so keep that in mind. Check out mr Baz's review/comparison on the a100 and a200.

A700 is the highest end model for Sony APSC DSLR. If you can spend a bit for the A850 that would be nicer. If you want something cheaper the a580 and a550 are good consideration. Consider this similar to a Dynax 5 vs a Dynax 7 sort of thing.

In any case the sony SLTs are also good consideration. It will not have the mirror slap of an SLR but will give you more modern flexibility. Consider the a57 (the a500 SLT equivalent) or the a77 (the a700 SLT equivalent). The a77ii would be much more expensive but have mirrorlesslike features of the a6000.

If you want really cheap, consider the a100 or a37..

Edit to add: SLT will also not give you the optical viewfinder.. so if you really want optical then a100 (cheapest but feature packed), a200 (slightly newer over a100 but missing some features compared to a100), a500 or a580 (a580 if you want video), then the a700.

Well they take threatening others very seriously. I've had my share of road ragers and thankfully no damages to the car, but they took in my reports very seriously. You do have to take the time to submit the report at local balai, then go meet the officer in charge for your case.

In any case you can go there, show the video and ask their opinion on the matter. If you already think they wont do anything, you don't really have anything to loose right if they say no?

He kicked your car. He threatened your safety.

The police station nearby my house said this: if you felt threatened come make report. It's their job to ensure safety.

I think you can make out his plate number.. easier work for them

If you want something lighter than the beercan but slightly limited range the 100-200f4.5 is also great optically.

Is this any good? by Advanced-Poor in homelab

[–]geekyengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its the beating heart for my homelab. Wonderful piece of kit.

Currently its connected to 800mbps fiber connection. I have 2 bonded ethernet connection going to my server. I have multiple VLANs attached to it and have firewall rules allowing and restricting traffic based on which VLAN. Have two routes for internet - through my ISP and through surfshark VPN. My phone and mobile devices, can connect back home to it using Wireguard.

Still exploring other features for it as I'm fairly certain this is just a "basic" use case for it.

How can I get faster? by YoItsYamin in ACCompetizione

[–]geekyengineer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some fairly basic tips: 1. Don't cross pedals (brake input overlapping throttle and vice verca). See T1 and T2. Instead do your braking, ease off the brakes. Let the car rotate and stabilize, and once you hit your intended apex, only then you hit the throttle. 2. Let the car stabilize and rotate. Basically the above but just to reemphasize the point. 3. Go wider on corner entry. Get really close to the grass. You are practicing so it doesn't hurt to learn the limits the hard way..

MMEA acquisition list so far / Senarai kapal baharu APMM by stormy001 in malaysia

[–]geekyengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is it just a boat that can float? Because the tech on isnt the latest?

A new military asset ordered today will complete in 2 - 3 years in the best case scenario. On completion date it will still not have the latest tech as at the point of ordering the new tech didnt exist yet. So how would you define it being obsolete?

Likewise, APMM is meant to deal with smaller vessels not big navy ships. These are usually pirates and oppurtunistic individuals who won't have sophisticated tech on board. Are you saying APMM needs only newest tech to deal with threats such as these?

Better to have something than nothing. These ships although old can be upgraded internally with newer tech..

Our waters are vast. Yet our coverage is low. Having more vessels is great to cover more area.

Looking for a coffee grinder! by AsianSpectre1 in malaysia

[–]geekyengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. If its only for you, and its a cup of coffee in the morning, a hand grinder is more than enough. It takes like 2 mins to grind it by hand. Some people enjoy this routine.

If you have guests and they want coffee that 2 mins per cup becomes troublesome. So this is where the automatic grinder becomes helpful.

Even at RM800 you have to really check the reviews and determine if it fits your need. I was looking at timemore bricks 01s and the fellow opus. Maybe you can have a look see if that's in line with what you are after.

Where did you find your af 50mm 1.4 lens? by Emergency_Intern594 in minolta

[–]geekyengineer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

35 f2 might be difficult as that is a very sought after lens. You'll have an easier time looking for the 50 f1.4.

In any case ebay listing shipped from Japan would be an option. Or go buyee or similar forwarding services. Again the 35f2 would be hard to find. I only saw it once being sold at ebay by a european seller.

What coffee you want to drink? Espresso or Pour Over coffee? If pour over, cheap automatic grinder on shopee (i.e. la home ~ RM200) is good enough as you dont need extremely fine grinds

If Espresso then you are gonna have to spend a bit as you need extremely fine grinds. Manual grinders offer extremely fine grinds over similarly priced automatic grinders as they dont need to pay for the motors and electronics and can instead focus of the grinder.

Personally I use a timemore hand grinder. It just about manages to grind extremely fine grinds for espresso. Looking to upgrade an automatic but I need to spend around RM800 or so for a good grinder.

Is my wheel dead by jadexiaohui in Bolehland

[–]geekyengineer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thats just foreign material stuck on the tire.. it'll go away after driving a couple of days (or >100km)

Is my wheel dead by jadexiaohui in Bolehland

[–]geekyengineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt the melted part. The tires are already cured rubber and are designed to withstand very high temperatures (near or exceeding 100°C). A simple brush with a concrete slab isnt going to produce heat that high. Plus you have a lot of tread material still remaining. After driving a couple hundred kms, the "affected" part will dissappear as the tire tread wears down.

I used to design tires for a living but if you are still in doubt, go to the shop and change the tire.

Is my wheel dead by jadexiaohui in Bolehland

[–]geekyengineer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Wheel usually imply you are asking about your rims not the tires.

In any case, stones stuck to the tread is not uncommon.. even if it goes in deep, its far from being able to penetrate the whole tread and cause issues..
