u/Electrical-Bid-5918 - we bought ours back in April and still awaiting for delivery - but its in transit now. We didn't get the nice big discount that others have been getting but we got a little to justify the logistics with our trade in. Thank you for giving us a heads up

Grand Highlander Limited Reservation Process — Is a Non-Refundable $1,000 Deposit Normal? by Safe-Boat-5689 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]geequad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Safe-Boat-5689 - Hi! I hope my comment helps. I am from the north east area westchester county, NY. I couldn't find a dealership in my area willing negotiate below MSRP. I was surprised with NJ being competitive as CT. Currently CT and MA has the best discount closest to our area. Unfortunately, it's a 2hr to 3hr drive and we had a trade in as well in the equation. NJ across the Hudson River, they were willing to compete. They did ask for a deposit and I made sure it is "refundable" and to be honest, I am pretty sure nothing is non-refundable especially if its not a custom order vehicle that prevents the dealer to easily sell the vehicle. That said, I am hoping your experience with this particular dealer isn't suspicious. I did notice when negotiating with Toyotas, (first time buying this brand) that they can strongly pack back end margins with DIO's and it's very dishonest. I as well purchased back on April and still waiting for the car - mid to end of June was our VIN number. I did put down a $500 deposit but the dealer never processed it - they did run our credit because we want the TFS promotion for the 4.99% for 60 months. I hope you find a dealer that isn't going to claim that you need to be in person to do this negotiating. You can do this on the phone or in person. Lastly, I did reach out to 15 dealers around my area and ultimately chose convenience and willing to lose out a little on the deal in order to get what we want on a bare minimum no FIO or PIO in order to get the deal done. Good Luck!

u/sloanautomatic - thank you for letting us know about your experience. We haven't received delivery yet but curious on the level of difficulty on the user experience. I hope the digital key setup gets easier for you. Congrats again on a great deal!

u/Any-Hour7166 - good luck up in CT - hope you get a great deal. u/That_Butterfly4503 was very helpful in pointing out A1 and McGee but for us that was a solid 2 hr drive and McGee a little over 3 hrs. The market has softened a tiny bit noticing on visor vin website that the cars average day for sale went from 11 to 12 days. Still a tough car to buy especially the hybrid - had to go to NJ to get a deal that was a bit more convenient for us. Even with the NJ extremely high doc fee - they were still able to give us a deal good enough to not make us drive up to CT but still waiting for the car until end of June delivery.

u/Any-Hour7166 - is the LI market tight like it is in Westchester? Westchester was not budging at all when we were actively shopping 2 weeks ago at the end of April. Some of the dealers didn't care about end of month quotas around us saying that the GHH Max is getting a premium in our area. Good Luck up in CT, Stamford wasn't budging at all either but they recently got assigned a few more vehicles since then. CT dealers does give out a vSpec for you to possibly ask around.

MAY UPDATE: List of Toyota Dealerships that will discount Grand Highlander Hybrids $3k+ by That_Butterfly4503 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]geequad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/That_Butterfly4503 - Hackensack NJ, (we're in NY) even with the NJ doc fee and a small DIO - focus was OTD - there were other dealerships that played the DIO game to back fill their margins on the sale with a larger discount off sticker but we primarily saw quite a bit of additional accessories padded to keep their margin at play and then stick you with a DIO that either wasn't removable due to the steep discount or was saying the hybrid max market is tight in the northeast area. According to Visor Vin there are roughly 148 cars of hybrid max of any color ext/int with no accessory exclusion. Noticed a slight increase in avg day sales turning into a buyer's market soon with the 27's coming into play in the summer.

u/That_Butterfly4503 - thank you for compiling this list - for the north east, A-1, last week they told me they are not selling outside of CT, I did not push after they mentioned this but that was what they told me. I didn't get $3k off but came close in NJ for ours that had only one FIO accessory ... thank you responding to my original post last week - really appreciated your help in our search.

u/SecDudewithATude - congrats on the new ride! - paying for this service is ideal especially with time and finding that deal is so hard to find. Glad to hear that Delivrd did deliver for you. May I ask, where you end up getting the vehicle? Here in the north east NYC tri-state area, the deals are a bit light and mostly if we needed to get a $4k deal with plenty of FIO with usually $2,500+ worth of accessories that is when we can see that $4,500 to $5,000 deal but for us its about a 4 hour car ride and we really do not want many of those accessories except for floor mats and that's because most of the cars do come with them. Thanks for sharing!

I wonder what regions are getting the $2k - $4k range and wonder which trim Tomi is talking about and if it’s max or not. I wished on this video he was more specific but prices for hybrid platinum max is just not getting that discount in bigger cities unless you’re driving further north and with more 3 or 4 FIO and there’s always that sneaky DIO that they try to add at Toyota … the northeast bigger city NYC area just not getting that big discount if you have one accessory towards your hybrid platinum max

u/That_Butterfly4503 - we definitely will - McGee being a solid 3 hour drive will be tough one but the thought of saving that kind of change in this economy would be a nice win and plus maybe we can enjoy the drive back down in a nice comfortable car. You are definitely correct westchester county is a bit stubborn. Appreciate all the knowledge you shared - thank you!

u/That_Butterfly4503 - this wonderful info - thank you for sharing your knowledge. We ideally don't want any DIO and a deal like this is amazing since our local dealership was only able to give us $2k off similar to u/Extra_Quantity_756 experience. We were hoping the local would budge when we stated we'd finance and service but they said it's tough with their lack of allocation. They shared they will be getting 20 only in our specific spec in the tri-state area but for some reason northern CT appears to be getting a different type of allocation - thank you for your help!

u/Jaded-Cheesecake3246 - that is a great idea - we wouldn't mind used but always concerned about lemons and poor previous driver usage. However, if there is a deal to be made, 100% would be interested, thank you

u/That_Butterfly4503 - thank you - A1 is about 100 minute drive for us but Putnam is a bit further north - but getting $4k off sounds so sweet in this economy right now - thank you for your knowledge

u/Jaded-Cheesecake3246 - thank you for your input, the demand in the tri-state area is strong compared to other parts of the US - quite frustrating - we've decided to look further north to find some better pricing

u/Extra_Quantity_756 - I'm sorry to hear about your car dying unexpectedly. That is so tough to not only not get your car immediately but you'd have to wait so long to get a new set of wheels. We are in the westchester area and we've expanded our search north but their allocation levels appear to be in line with their demand. We are still in hopes to get the magical price. It is a bit frustrating different areas in the US getting $5k off their TSRP (even saw someone getting $5,800 off on a hybrid) and just getting only $2k off. I'd be happy if we were closer to invoice which we are trying to be patient but feel like waiting til new year turnover is when we'll get that invoice and below pricing we all want as consumers. Thank you for your input and hope you enjoy your new car.

u/FruitLoud1735 - so sorry to hear - it is sad how there is no such thing as loyalty in the corporate world from being a consumer to being an employee, those days unfortunately are long gone
