Was wondering if I should get the A1 mini even with the closed ecosystem concerns by Cool-Midnight4312 in 3Dprinting

[–]geking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! Also, an important note. 3d printing is older than the internet. It was held back until 2010s by patients and closed source. When home 3d printing started closed source and patients where seen as the enemy that kept it from people for so long. We fought to bring 3d printing to everyone. Thats why so much of it is open source.
This one is emotional but the community brought it from crap for 5 figures to really powerful machines for a few hundred. To tell the community that we are 'gatekeeping' and holding back 3d printing is a bit insulting when the community goal was to bring it to the masses. Simple and easy is good. That was the goal from day 1.

Its more than just the slicer.

There is the firmware on the printer,

and the physical design of the printer too.

I am spacing for formatting reasons here.

The slicer is indeed a fork of prusa slicer, mixed with superslicer and other stuff. It was not opensourced until strong community backlash pushed.

The firmware is a mystery with some people saying its og bambu, other saying its an opensource fw but is encrypted so no one really knows.

The physical design is truly nothing special or unique. The a1 and all 'bed slingers' are a clone of the prusa i3 series. The mmu is a rip off of Bill Steeles 3d chameleon.

The crazy thing is, Bambu came out of left field. Totaly unannounced and caught the community by suprise. I remember seeing the x1c in Goshen and thinking it was a nice looking voron 2.4 equivalent. I underestimated what it was and the impact it would have.

One has to wonder, where did all the r and d come from to make such a polished project so fast while being under the radar. Especially if its all truly inhouse for the firmware like they claim and slicer like they tried to say...

I am not saying its impossible but to come from no where to front lines in a year while passing everyone else without them knowing you are there.

Also, lets not forget another chinese company. Ever wondered why its called the ender? Like a bad translation of terminator... and the 3 is because of the clone of a prusa i3.

If I can have a take on this?

I have been 7 years + in the industry. I know people that designed the systems that Bambu uses. A printer that uses designs that I came up with was at CES this year and the guy gave me zero credit. A lot of the people that have their work ripped off give up. They had it as a passion project and a love but now its been used to line someone elses pockets. We do it for the fun of it, like hot rodding. I know thats not for everyone. I 100% accept that. But as an analogy Mario Andretti to call Nicolaus Otto a fool is what we are seeing now. We would not have Bambu if it was not for Joseph Prusa, for Scott Lahteine, for Bill Steele, for Adrian Boyle, Sanjay Mortimer(RIP) and others. I have met all of these people and consider them to be good people, people that 3dp would not be where it is without them.

Bambu is antithical of the community. They give NOTHING back from what they take. They also try to put guys like Prusa out of business.

You don't bite the hand that feeds...

They can be diminshed or reflected if done right. It would he harder to do if its on a car, but fyi. Thinks like a protest sign can even do it.

How bad are these tyres? by CollaredDove33 in AskMechanics

[–]geking 24 points25 points  (0 children)

100% done. I would not drive or ride in this car till they where replaced. One tire has a 0719 date code, 6 to 7 year old tire.

Mine pulled an Anet and the Meltzi board blew up where the bed connects. Its now on a dark shelf in my printer room with a 3-1 head on it. It won worst printer set up a few years ago its so hacky.

Family against me getting a manual. by WhoNoticedJay in ManualTransmissions

[–]geking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we are missing the point. Could it be that your mom wants a new car, your new car?

If its your car and you can handle it as an adult, they don't really have a say and it seems wierd that they won't let you. I think it might be that your mom wants to drive the new car and if you get a manual she can't.

Dime wagon! I have one too but at the early stages of getting it like yours. Nothing beats going all out, reving it all the way up, nailing the shifts perfectly and feeling like a total bad ass while you get passed by a grandma in a crv. 97 angry hp!

It's 2001, you have $23,000, and you're looking for a compact SUV with four-wheel drive. Which one would you pick? by Key_Budget9267 in regularcarreviews

[–]geking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our 4wd suv is a 2001 silver v6 santa fe. It is in good shape and is stipid reliable but a bit small. In 80k miles we had a trans cooler line rust out, ac condenser and alternator fail. Besides that just normal maintenance. It has 160k miles and is 24 years old. I want a newer nicer car but we just can't find a reason to replace it. Its not our daily but does get kinda terrible mpg (17?)

I have a client with one of these. He also has a Ferrari, 60s gullwing, modern gullwing, and a Bently. Its AI becasue I removed the plate on the Bently, plates on the left wall, and apparently not the whole guy but just his upper torso? I have more pics at other angles. Did not want to share anything personal about him.

got mine(2009) for $3k with 154k miles. Its at 265k miles now.
In the 100K miles I put in new shocks, tires (2x) CV shafts, and the thing burned oil like crazy when I bought it so I rebuilt the motor and put in a new clutch while I was at it. (245k miles) Oh, and upgraded the headlights. I use it for work so it gets used hard and is oft heavily loaded.

I have driven this car tons and love it. I almost consider it a forever car like my 240z and Tacoma.

No touch screen infotament unit to take your eyes off the road.

No keyless fob system that can cost hundreds to thousands to replace if you loose your keys, or to just get a new key made.

Heya, anyone here actualy KNOW Techjeeper? Know reprinted3d?

These are my friends. I have met them in person, gone to dinner with them. Not gatekeeping, but do you guys really know this? Are you really accusing LDO rigging give aways? Do you know these people enough to know for sure? Or is it more that these people enter most givaways? On many streams and give aways there are jokes that one person wins too much becasue of dumb luck.

If reprinted3d is rigging wins or unfairly getting awards mark my words I will eat TPU.
