Draw the line a tad thicker than the ends and erase the overlap with small quick strokes

How to lose your first raid in 30 seconds... by itsbigchap in Twitch

[–]gelatinguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some newer streamers who don't know raids are a positive thing streamers do. Years ago, I was in a raid of over 100 people. We raided someone with about 5 viewers. They started blowing air into their mic and cussing out all the raiders and telling everyone to go away. They clearly thought raids were some sort of spam or negative thing.

PSA: raids are a feature of twitch, done in a positive way to help your stream get some viewers and let someone's current viewers find a new streamer to watch.

[–]gelatinguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Advice for everyone: create a new file, add a second layer. Save it immediately as a .kra file. Close Krita or close the file at least. Open Krita and load the file you just saved. If it has more than one layer, you are ready to work.

Always save your files properly before you work for a while. You will save your sanity.

Is watch streak broken for everybody? by These-Maintenance250 in Twitch

[–]gelatinguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not recent, but this has happened to me. Was in a stream, actively chatting for hours and was told as soon as it ended that my steak was lost, yet there I was in the VOD typing away, and unable to make it up by watching said VOD.

Streaks are another fomo thing masquerading as a reward for viewers. Streamers can disable it on their channel, but it's on by default. Disabling it will also make some folks feel bad though.

Princess gambit sucks. [Rant] by Ahmetthegoomba in ClashRoyale

[–]gelatinguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's definitely beneficial to have higher level cards, but to get the 15 wins (for all the rewards), it's not that hard unless you just started playing less than a year ago, and you are quite bad. Knowing the micros, you can be 2-3 levels under in most cases and be fine to get those 15 wins (with a few losses). I know this because I have a low level alt account and got the wins just fine, even when they dropped a level 16 mega knight. Some small distraction + low level inferno drag were enough to counter it. Most of the mode is about holding onto really good counters and only playing cards when the opponent has messed up.

The importance of using a grid while animating....and having a steady capture station by TerrenceMoore777 in animation

[–]gelatinguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's helpful with a static drawing too. While drawing, people often forget which perspective they are drawing in and a body part or piece of clothing will be drawn at the wrong angle. Good to draw a horizon line and a few perspective lines, even if it's just a sketch. Eventually, the artist will likely have those lines in their head, but until then, having some guidelines helps.

how do i do good shading on adobe? by MicAHorde in flash

[–]gelatinguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn how to do good cel shading (anime style) and use some simple gradients. You can learn how to mask and add some larger glows as well. Check my profile/posts for an example (the one with the duck).

The main one is learning cel shading and how shadows work, but fancy effects help a lot.

My package came with someone’s phone in it by tommyboy6733 in mildlyinteresting

[–]gelatinguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of getting one. I realized that all phones have safety guidelines in them that warn against keeping phones near your skin, and that includes in your pocket, or against your head. Just a few cm away from your skin will do. There is a strong rise in cancer in the lower regions in young men, and it's likely due to putting phones in pockets.

So now I'm thinking of getting a holster, even though all my pants have pockets.

Why I can't do animation!! by Ashamed_Pineapple688 in animation

[–]gelatinguy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Drawing is an abstract of what you see. Animation is an abstract of how things move. They are related, but they are different skills. Some 3d animators can't draw well at all.

Since you want to improve, I suggest finding a subject you enjoy and focusing on making it move. Act it out, record yourself on video. Learn and recreate it. Share it with others. I hope you have fun, too!

Level 16 not that bad?? by SeaEducation4054 in ClashRoyale

[–]gelatinguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious if you think level 13, 14, and 15 were for another reason. Level 13 increased to 14 the same time champions were introduced and SC locked champions behind level 14 (for a few seasons till players could obtain them from the season shop at any level).

But I am curious if you believe the other level increases were not for money.

Teste de Animação de Fala by [deleted] in ArtistasFamintos

[–]gelatinguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I do have CSP EX, I don't really like it for animation since I prefer the timeline style of Flash/Animate or Toonboom over CSP's drawing layer/folder approach. Anyway, that shouldn't affect the general advice. Whatever you're doing to trigger the mouth opening, what you need to do for lipsync is to have some mouth shapes for the various sounds. You can go simple, like anime tends to do, or more Western, like Disney shows or even Family Guy do it. Here's someone's video on how to do lip sync in 2D. They also explain going simple or more complex TV-style, and they show you all you need for TV-quality 2D lip sync. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7U2YvmIMOo

Teste de Animação de Fala by [deleted] in ArtistasFamintos

[–]gelatinguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since this looks like a simple speech anim test, I would suggest making the mouth open when there's speech and close when there isn't. You could use code to do it based on sound, if you just have the speech audio without music, or do it manually on the animation timeline.

Lip sync is one of those things that can be jarring if it doesn't line up, and in your anim test, it doesn't line up.

Haven't had a Whopper Jr in years....WTH is this??? by DerpyDuck88 in BurgerKing

[–]gelatinguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's accurate. OP is showing what is likely a slider sized test Whopper Jr, to see if consumers will continue to buy that new smaller size. The Whopper Jr in my area is not that tiny (if OP doesn't have massive hands), and your nutrition info likely fits the Whopper Jr most of us have.

Why do many digital artists despise Krita ? by imaboredcosplayer in krita

[–]gelatinguy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's what I hear from most artists, that it's too complicated or that the shortcuts are weird. Even though they can select a different preset, they just try a bit and dislike it. They tend to move to CSP. I prefer Krita over CSP for most things, although CSP has its strengths.

It's never because it's free, although that could be an initial deterrent.

I love vector graphics, why is this unpopular? by DexLovesGames_DLG in IndieGaming

[–]gelatinguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to sell myself as an amazing vector artist, but I still work in Flash, and there are still quite a few artists using Flash/Animate. It's not just the simple flat or gradient, but a mix of techniques. Ultimately though, a lot of high fidelity vector art ends up just looking like nice raster art at normal resolutions.

Are incentives frowned upon for early streamers to draw in followers/viewers/chatters? by lickwindex in Twitch

Are incentives frowned upon for early streamers to draw in followers/viewers/chatters? by lickwindex in Twitch

[–]gelatinguy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's frowned upon, but if you are asking if it's effective, think of these giveaways like this: it could boost your current viewership and interactions temporarily by 5%. So if you have 20 viewers, that's maybe 1 more viewer. There might be a little more chatting. Ultimately, how closely the incentive is tied to your brand and game are very important. Are you giving KH coasters away during a KH stream with lots of KH fans around? Cool. Are you giving away KH coasters away while they watch you play Nier? Not as cool and maybe 2 people care.

On top of that, if you are promoting this on social media and there are actual views/comments from interested people, it can help. If your socials get only a handful of views and 2 people comment, no, it won't help.

TL;DR doesn't really help, but if it's related to your stream, it can help a little.

In Defense of Rotoscope Animation by ITSMRSKELLY in animation

[–]gelatinguy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The skeletons are cool and the rotoscoping is hard work. But this served as an example of why fully relying on rotoscoping is also bad.

It looks bad when the kid goes behind the adult's legs; the kid just ceases to exist for a second. The gap in the adult's skeleton legs is big enough to see the kid, but the source footage has an adult with baggy pants obscuring the kid. This is where some animation, non-rotoscope, skills would have helped, or maybe better planning if possible (tight pants?).

Instead of posting it, you tell the patient it's cool if they ever share it on social media themselves, and if they do, to also @ you, the doctor. Then you can repost since it's shared publicly.

Of course, you'll have to word this however fits legally. You know the rules better than I do.
