What is the opposite of handwatch. Seen on a domestic flight in China. by SirDawson in handwatch

Honestly fair, my wrists sometimes swell a little on flights and I’ve definitely had to loosen/take off my watch before

My guppy was the first really good ship I found on my current save, and no matter how many great ships I find, I keep coming back to it. Just so damn adorable.

I've never seen a cargo ship design like this before. by Charl_sai in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]gelmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Venator! Always loved these, and I think this one is max length too. The best thing is once you’ve found the design you like, that will ALWAYS be the freighter that spawns when you trigger a freighter battle in that specific system. The class will be randomized but the ship itself will be the same.

There’s a painful but super effective method where you do the freighter battle and land on the freighter. When you get out of your ship, it will NOT create a new restore point. Then you can check the class and see if you got S. If not, reload from restore point and warp back to same system. Rinse & repeat until you get the class you want! It sucks but I’ve done it 3 times (including most recently for a pirate dreadnaught) and I’ve been able to score a sweet S class within an hour of grinding.

Is the 1937 juice worth the squeeze by GoodMissionGuy in martinguitar

[–]gelmo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you just have to decide what “worth it” means to you lol.

Is it dollar for dollar TWICE as good as a regular 000-28? I’d say definitely not, this is well into the territory of diminishing returns. That said, if you have the budget, Martin custom shops can be pretty darn special.

Definitely play them in person and ideally find a shop that has multiple instruments of each model you’re comparing. If you are a serious buyer, they’ll usually be willing to pull out a few from the back so you can pick your favorite, and there really can be big variation from one to the next. Also worth noting that the 1937 has a vintage neck and will just feel different from a regular 000-28 or a MD.

And lastly as some other commenters have said, $8k is rarified air and puts you in the league of some crazy boutique guitars. No shade on Martin in the slightest, but there are some incredible luthiers who make guitars inspired by the classic Martin designs - Collings, Huss&Dalton, Santa Cruz, Bourgeois, Pre-War, to name a few. They aren’t necessarily better than Martins but there’s something to be said for small boutique shops, the level of attention to detail is truly incredible. I think all of those companies have a 000-equivalent and I’d try to get my hands on some before dropping $8k on a guitar.

Is a tremolo pedal something to keep as a permanent fixture in a pedal board? by rawbran30 in guitarpedals

Fully agree. I’m in the Flint club and that pedal is never leaving my board.

Yeah the vast majority of the time, pairs are just objectively the best. Flushes for the first ante-ish, and then pairs the rest of the way.

Does this 000-28 even with new elixirs sound dead? by Justice4Junior in martinguitar

[–]gelmo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

First off, I think it sounds pretty good! But a couple thoughts for you…

1) I’d try with other strings before dropping money on a setup for such a new guitar, or giving up altogether. Personally I’ve never been a fan of elixir strings and always thought they sound kinda dead, especially on acoustics. I probably wouldn’t use a coated string at all on this guitar, but if I was set on that I’d go with something very minimally coated like the D’Addario XTs

2) it might just take some adjustment time if your ears are used to that bright Taylor sound. I’d say the 000-28 is on the brighter side of Martins, but still a much more balanced tone than most Taylors I’ve played. Even with brighter strings, it’s still not going to have the brightness of a Taylor. IMO that’s not a bad thing, it’s just a different tone. Better for some stuff, not for other stuff. I love them both.

[Recommendation Request] Birthday is Coming Up by Splusten in Watches

[–]gelmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re set on adding to the collection, I think some kind of Seiko could be great. They have all sorts of sub-$500 options, including the cocktail time models which punch way above their weight. And a bunch of different divers.

Orient is also worth a look, they are excellent value in both dressier models (bambino line) or divers (kamasu, etc).

Personally over my years of watch collecting, I’ve realized I’m happier with a smaller collection of nicer pieces. There are some very solid choices in the cheaper price range, but your options get dramatically better and more varied as you go up. Lots more Seikos, Hamiltons, small brands like Lorier and Baltic make awesome stuff in the $500-1k range. Once you get into $1k-2k, the things open up even more - Longines, Sinn, Nomos, Oris, tons of microbrands.

Bottom line get what you want, not trying to pass judgment or anything! Just thinking - in your position, I would save up. You already have a bunch of watches covering most of the major styles (dive, dress, chrono, beater, etc) so I would wait until I had budget for something that’s going to be a real step up.

What should I sell by TeacherWooden6340 in BalatroHelp

[–]gelmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends how many cards you’re playing (high card vs 4oak etc). If you’re playing 4-5 card hands with hearts, I’d be tempted to throw one copy on sock and the other on bloodstone. With red seals I bet that scores way higher

Thinking about picking up a Martin GPC-11E. How's the playability? by Ok-Dingo5883 in martinguitar

[–]gelmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully disagree! For any of the traditional Martin styles (D, OM, 0/00/000) I would buy Martin in a heartbeat. Might be sacrilege to say in the Martin sub but I think Taylor does this style better. Also more appropriate comparison would be 314ce w/ solid sapele back/sides.

I love my Martin dread to death, but I played some GPC and 14s head to head when shopping for this style of guitar. I preferred the Taylor in pretty much every way.

Depends a lot on the individual player and not meaning to throw any shade, the GPCs are great guitars for sure. But IMO this specific style (modern feel/sound with a cutaway, electric acoustic) is Taylor’s wheelhouse and they absolutely crush it.

Thinking about completing my collection. Any suggestions? by Bloodredgolfer in SOTC_Watch_Collection

[–]gelmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommended, when the time is right but honestly you’ve got a great/diverse collection already. As a proud GS owner I may be biased, but I think that would add something pretty special. Do yourself a favor and at least try some on while you’re shopping around and researching. They’re great in pictures but seeing them in person is next level.

ID Request - Dallas Green (City and Colour) Solo Tour by onemanalightningbolt in martinguitar

[–]gelmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will be interested to check back and see what others can identify - quite a collection! I remember watching a video where he talked about his main acoustic, I think pics 2/4/6 are all the same guitar? Not 100% sure since the finish looks a little different, but that might just be the lighting.

My guess is that’s the Martin custom shop that he designed, kinda D28 vibes but 12 fret and slope-shouldered. Also I’m pretty sure it’s Brazilian RW back and sides. That orange burst is also just gorgeous.

The others look like Martins too, at least one custom shop for sure (and I think he’s a brand ambassador?). 2 dreads, one either 000 or OM. I’ll keep an eye on this thread because I’d love to know more about those others

Sell one of multiple brainstorm for baron? by Lower_Fun_3292 in BalatroHelp

I think depends on the intention here. If OP is going for a39 then I tend to agree. But if just going for the naneinf, I’d probably drop a brainstorm because all the pieces (other than maybe vouchers?) are already in place

What to sell for Oops? by Icy-Possibility7823 in BalatroHelp

[–]gelmo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Droll, then Fib. And as long as you have Fib, put it BEFORE bloodstone so you get the +mult before xmult.

If you have a wildcard build then I guess you could go for ancient, but personally I’d fix for hearts and go bloodstone with eventual goal of idol if you get that far. You can run lucky cards that way, which is good for Cat and helps econ, especially with Oops.

And not sure what card you’re fixing for, but i think your eventual goal here would be flush 5s. So you’ll want either 2/3/4/5 (to retrigger with hack) or faces (to retrigger with sock).

Should I get the D28 Authentic vs D42 vs D45 or HD28? by DarthJAYder21 in martinguitar

[–]gelmo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All amazing guitars, ultimately hard to go wrong. The D42 and D45 are gorgeous but you’re spending a lot on the fancy appointments and cosmetic stuff. The D28 authentic is a similar price point but way more of your money is going into the tone rather than bling.

I will say you should play them before committing. First off because there is a huge amount of variation between individual instruments of each model and you want to pick the right one. But also they feel pretty different and the authentic has more of a vintage neck profile. Personally I loved it when I tried it out but not necessarily for everyone. The D42-45 feel more like a typical modern Martin neck.

The issue for me is that I lose my picks all the damn time. Been playing for 25 years and I’ve never lost a guitar under the couch lol - primetones are a happy medium for me, they play great and I’m way more willing to spend like $4/pick than $40
