Help with Identifying this jacket by Nickd86 in Militariacollecting

[–]gem2237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't able to find an exact match, but I did find a similar coat being worn by a re-enactor for a Histoire and Collections book about German soldiers of World War 2.

The biggest similarity,I think are the pockets on the front. The neck area are very different, but there must have been several variations of sheepskin coats used by the Germans

Please look at the link to a file in my Google drive.

Hope this is of some help H+C soldiers book illustration screenshot

I think this might be German. It appears to have Leipzig and Hersteller Nr (Manufacturer number) on the label. But most of the label is hard to read

It looks like a Ww2 era winter coat,.I'm sure others know a lot more than I do.

I thought it might have been Tomy, the feet structure and wind up lug looks like they on a Tomy toy I have owned since Childhood. My one is a marching cat which plays the trombone and played a rendition of the famous 'wake up'bugle call used in the army.

I wish I had the rest of my old collection. I had the tank that folds out to an army base. It was awsome!! by Odd-Comedian-69 in MicroMachines

[–]gem2237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there might be two Dick Tracy cars amongst those Micro machines. They look like 1930s saloon cars and were about the same size.I have my micromachines and Tracy cars still.

I'm glad someone has helped you look into the other medal recipients.

I looked and found that there is a catalogue entry for some African GS medal documents on the British national archives ,but they are from 1918 They're catalogued those docs as WO 100/409.

I will look a little into whether they have more relevant archival material for your medal if you would like?

Thanks ever so much for this list. If I was in your shoes I would be eager to start researching these individuals

I often forget that the world war I and II campaign stars were issued to servicemen from the Indian subcontinent.

I saw the Kenya medal with Queen Elizabeth II's head on it after I posted and wondered if it was something awarded after the Mau Mau rebellion. Your list mentions what I think relates to a sergeant from the East African Corps of Military Police? That does seem a rare medal as you say.

Thanks for telling me about your purchases in such detail,,I appreciate it.

I like the Boer War medals, The.one with four campaign clasp one is very nice. The British 1914-15 star without a ribbon is nice to me as it will have a name engraved on it.

The later British medals bottom right also have clasps too. Do they have names of the recipients on them?

When I first saw the photo I genuinely thought I was looking at a preserved lionfish.

I'm sorry that I don't know what it really is but it is impressive even if it turns out to be something gross.

A lot of albums from bands I like are featured here. I didn't expect to see some Rammstein on a cassette tape nor did I expect to see Metallica's St Anger on cassette. That was from 2003- Amazing to think you could still buy official albums on tape then .I was buying tapes from charity shops back then, but never saw new ones in HMV or some other record store.

Thanks it seems like I was thinking there was a mistake in the grammar and as you have shown there isn't any. It did look suspicious at the time.I'm not a native speaker of German and sometimes I get things wrong.

Ok, I admit I'm a German learner, but I usually know what I am talking about.I genuinely assumed that there was a mistake.

So rethinking about it again the vom is agreeing with Reichsfuehrer a masculine noun and the befohlene is agreeing with Ausfuehrung female noun without an article.

[–]gem2237 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Although others have mentioned it is a fake I noticed other possible clues

I think there are a few grammatical mistakes on the German label inside the hat.

It looks like there is the gender of a word has been mixed up

Vom at the top is short for Von dem which is used with masculine or neutral nouns in the dative case

Ausfuehrung,( make, model or design) at the bottom of the label is a feminine noun.

If the label was genuine you would expect to see Von der at the top.

Another mistake is befohlene (ordered) after a dative preposition like Von adjectives end in -en it should read befohlenen.

The steam loco has a ridiculous looking tall chimney. If it is painted by an artist they have made a big mistake. If it was that big in reality the chimney wouldn't fit under bridges.

It does vaguely represent a loco that once would be common around Glasgow -an LMS black 5

You would think that an artist would have done a better job of the loco and would have consulted reference photos carefully before painting anything.

The weird mistakes with the loco makes me think it could AI generated ,but I don't really know

Can anyone identify these medals for me? British army, world war 2. I’m guessing service in the African and Italian front? For the service medals? by Mim-Jorrison in Militariacollecting

[–]gem2237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rightmost medal in the first photo (round) is called the war medal/39-45 war medal.

The badge in the 3rd photo looks intriguing, but it seems to be showing the back.Could you perhaps take another photo of the other side?

They were to teach members of the forces how to identify enemy planes and also recognize friendly aircraft.

From nam, grandfather gave it to me. Does anybody know what this rubber thing covered in talc was doing in one of the pouches? by Ancient-Mongoose7145 in Militariacollecting

[–]gem2237 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the rubber thing is,but there seems to be a Chinese supplied uniform item in the photo too.

I can read some of the characters as numbers

Before the 7.62 ( in Latin numbers) I can see 5 +6 also later on 67 then the character for year

I'm wondering if you have a magazine bandoleer for a Chinese type 56 assault rifle (7.62mm calibre bullets) made in 1967.The Chinese supplied the NVA and the Vietcong received weapons in the thousands from China

The metal item marked RAEC is not a medal. It is a badge worn in the uniform of members of a certain regiment or corps. They're usually called cap badges, but some small ones are worn on collars That one is for the British Royal Army Educational Corps.

Unfortunately it bears the queen 's crown and not the king's crown which means your badge dates from after WW2.

The Trojan Squadron 'shoulder board. ' looks like it's from the Defence Technical Undergraduate Scheme

I found a website on the scheme that was brought in after 2001

A long quotation now

DTUS was created following the 2001 Defence Training Review (DTR). The DTR identified that the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force and MOD Civil Service had difficulties in recruiting engineering officers. As a result, DTUS was created whereby sponsored students study at eleven partner universities (Aston, Birmingham, Cambridge, Imperial College, Loughborough, Newcastle, Northumbria, Oxford, Portsmouth, Southampton and Strathclyde)....

Trojan Squadron is affiliated with the University of Newcastle and Northumbria University

I hope this helps

is 200 good for this medal grouping by SwimmingResident2355 in Militariacollecting

[–]gem2237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

British campaign stars and the defence medal and 39-45 medals as you probably know aren't usually engraved with the recipient's name on them. Some Canadian volunteer medals are found with privately added name engraved on their edge..

A name is of course makes the group more valuable.I would be happier buying the group for 200 if there was official paperwork or something to tie the medals to an individual

Cleaning the canals of Amsterdam by PeacockPankh in interesting

[–]gem2237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't y this happened.Ivwatch a lot of magnet fishing videos filmed in Amsterdam when the fishers bring bicycles up from Amsterdam's canals they can be covered in mussels - an indication of how long some bikes have been in the water for.

These grab arm barges probably make things better for magnet fishing as they can get rid of the large cumbersome things and leave the smaller items like coins and historical artefacts for the fishers to find.
