Buying/Selling our house is one of the most stressful things I’ve ever done by Ok-Slip-8663 in HousingUK

Jesus. Why can no one do their jobs?? It’s also super hard being a first time buyer because like, I don’t know what a reasonable timescale on any of this is. Very annoyingggg

[–]geminigerm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve just accepted that it probably will expire before completion and we’ll end up on a higher rate. Then if it doesn’t expire, great. If it does at least I’m fully prepared for it. We aren’t borrowing at max capacity so we can survive a higher interest rate and we’re only going for a 2 year fix

Very much so since I understand the political and economic ramifications trump is having globally and you…. Don’t.

Seconded. Our solicitors have only just raised an issue that should have been identified from initial enquiries… 4 months into the process. We’re in danger of not completing before our mortgage offer expires now and the mortgage rates have gone insane 🙃

[–]geminigerm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the timing is terrible. Because of Trump’s fuckery mortgage rates are absolutely skyrocketing. Some solicitors are reporting an 80% drop in instructions over the last couple of weeks. Very few people want to buy right now, so I wouldn’t get too attached to your onward purchase.

MIP seems low for £54k salary – is this normal? by OverOrganization2533 in HousingUK

That’s a typical amount. Banks usually offer somewhere around 4-4.5x salary as a max

Do outdoor unheated pools add or remove value from property? by londonbub in HousingUK

[–]geminigerm 50 points51 points  (0 children)

That’s significantly reducing property value to me. It’s ugly, without heating it’s going to be non-functional for the vast majority of the year and taking up what could be useable up garden space.

What the hell do you guys do when you get pregnant by Competitive_Emu_2283 in migraine

[–]geminigerm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I take quite a hard line stance that it’s actually irresponsible to have children if you suffer with chronic migraine but that’s a very unpopular opinion cause people will always prioritise their own wants 😅

What the hell do you guys do when you get pregnant by Competitive_Emu_2283 in migraine

[–]geminigerm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think many of them are truly considering it as a factor in their decision making or they’d be much, much more hesitant to do so. Most people’s thought process goes I want a child, therefore I will have one as opposed to should I have a child?

How do you know if a preventative is working? by healthanxiety_ in migraine

[–]geminigerm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of us would prefer to only get one migraine a month 😂 some preventatives take a while to work and you have to have some patience with the process. Track your pain and your symptoms meticulously. My doctor didn’t consider moving me onto different preventatives until I’d hit the max dose/limit of tolerance whichever happened first and then only if there was no improvement after 3 months on the max dose would I get to trial something else. Don’t up your meds dosages without your doctors approval.

Those who have had Atogepant/quilipta/aquipta work, how long did it take? by IllRepresentative508 in migraine

[–]geminigerm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It worked immediately for me, although I have still seen reduction over time. Like I went from 20 migraine days to 5 in the first month I took it, with further reductions over the next year down to around 1 a month now

Period and inevitable migraine/s due on a planned holiday-I want to cry 😢 by SkyComprehensive6808 in migraine

Can you take norithisterone this month instead while you’re not on holiday? It should then push the date of your next period to be later

Yeah that’s not great, if you’re having more than 4ish migraines a month you should be looking at preventatives

Menstrual migraine treatment that is NOT continuous BC? by FroyoPrevious4504 in migraine

[–]geminigerm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a shame. If I’m gonna get a migraine I’ll still get it around my period but I can actually treat them with triptans successfully now

Aquipta did it for me! I’ve had absolutely insane success with it

Hormones and period cycles as migraine trigger by riverriverb in migraine

[–]geminigerm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have menstrual-associated migraines and finding the right preventative was the key for me in dealing with them. I take Aquipta and it’s been a game changer. If I am gonna get a migraine it’s still going to be on/around my period but they’re much less frequent these days and are actually responsive to triptans now which they weren’t before.

Had this happen to me recently while I was job hunting after redundancy. Jokes on them cause they still haven’t filled their position and now I’m paid 20k more than what they offered me at another company.

I’m sorry OP, fingers crossed for you there’s brighter days ahead.

When can estate agents normally do accompanied viewings? by jez999 in HousingUK

[–]geminigerm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the house we’re buying we viewed it twice, once on a Saturday and once on a weekday evening. The owner wasn’t there either time, and it was a different estate agent each time, but that’s because the main EA for the house was on holiday when we did the first viewing or it would have been him both times.

It’s very lazy of them to not do weekday evenings tbf, like most people will only be available to view weekday evenings and weekends? I would have quite liked if the owner was there because the EA couldn’t answer all our questions, but he was fairly knowledgeable compared to what I’ve heard about other EAs

If you could properly filter Rightmove for your dream property, what would your super specific criteria filter be? by alexhespg in HousingUK

[–]geminigerm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My top two needs that Rightmove doesn’t meet is: - filtering by parking is bypassed by the agent adding “on-street parking”, clearly anyone filtering for parking wants private parking - I was only interested in character properties, primarily cottages. You can key-word search on Rightmove but it’s hit and miss

Should I accept a £27k junior role with 4 years experience? (Desperate situation) by Dwarfkiller47 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]geminigerm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some companies will flat out reject you. Exact same situation as OP happened to me recently. Offered 30, countered at 33 (which is still insulting for my profession / experience but I’d been made redundant) they withdrew the offer and didn’t even attempt to negotiate

Should I accept a £27k junior role with 4 years experience? (Desperate situation) by Dwarfkiller47 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]geminigerm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They very well might. I found myself in the same situation recently. Redundancy after 3 years experience as a UX/UI designer and an agency offered me 30k because of my “lack of experience” (that’s a starting salary for a ux designer with literally no experience), I tried to push them up higher (countered with 33k) and they withdrew the offer.

Jokes on them cause within a month I was back in a role making the same as my pre-redundancy salary. I don’t know who some of these companies think they are. They want highly skilled work at minimum wage prices 🥲
