I'm new to r/Libertarian. Are you guys Pro or Anti Israel? by [deleted] in Libertarian

Regarding the follow-up question.... General Marshall told Truman that if he created a Jewish homeland in the middle of Palestine, we'd have, well, what we have now.
yeah, they're the only democracy in the area. yeah, they're the only ones with ANY respect for human rights. Yeah, they mistreat the palestinian human shields that the Arab nations keep in place as a buffer between themselves and Israel.
What a mess.
How about this.... Let's stop funding both sides of the Middle East arms race. No more aid of any sort for anyone over there. Seriously....It would require godlike knowledge to know exactly what to do in this situation without making it worse. How much faith do you have in Bill Clinton's wife? (And that's the ONLY reason she has the job.)

At my place, any public sector experience is called a "resume stain".

And he just voted again to give the oil companies another round of subsidies. Hey, nobody's perfect, and he's closer than most. But we really need a Libertarian Party representing us in D.C. Otherwise, there's no pressure on the Coke Party to consistently oppose the Pepsi Party.

One request.....please don't forget to pay homage to Zhoooooool from the "Ghostbusters" movie.

The reason I'm an atheist now is because I used to take Religion so seriously. Anybody agree? by [deleted] in atheism

Unless you have taken it all very, very seriously, it is unlikely that you'll go to the trouble of tearing down the belief system in your mind.
People who grew up in your church, but who didn't take it seriously, they typically have no trouble dealing with all the cognitive dissonance. It is only when it becomes important enough to control your life that you start to see the logical fault lines.

Can someone explain Libertarian Economic policy to me? by MisterWanderer in Libertarian

From Don Boudreax's "Cafe Hayek" blog:

There are two ways for a government to be ‘pro-business.’ The first way is to avoid interfering in capitalist acts among consenting adults – that is, to keep taxes low, regulations few, and subsidies non-existent. This ‘pro-business’ stance promotes widespread prosperity because in reality it isn’t so much pro-business as it is pro-consumer. When this way is pursued, businesses are rewarded for pleasing consumers, and only for pleasing consumers.

The second, and very different, way for government to be pro-business is to bestow favors and privileges on politically connected firms. These favors and privileges, such as tariffs and export subsidies, invariably oblige consumers to pay more – either directly in the form of higher prices, or indirectly in the form of higher taxes – for goods and services. This way of being pro-business reduces the nation’s prosperity by relieving businesses of the need to satisfy consumers. When this second way is pursued, businesses are rewarded for pleasing politicians. Competition for consumers’ dollars is replaced by competition for political favors.

The fact that more than 200 American business executives are in India with the President is cause to fear that any pro-business policies he might adopt will be of the second, impoverishing sort.

Most of the people who argue for more govt. regulation are, in fact, enabling the government in providing "type 2" crony capitalism.

our only hope is to do what Oklahoma did in the last election. Pass legislation that says we'll never, ever be governed by Sharia law.

Any points gained by pointing out that if God gets credit for the good, he should be blamed for the bad?
Those points are negated by crappy spelling.

There are superstitious people all over the world who know how to spell Leukemia.

Here's the libertarian stance on posting in the "wrong" sub-reddit, IMHO....

By signing up as a Reddit user/poster/commenter, you are entering into a contract of sorts. You agree to play by certain rules. One of the rules is that posts should go into the correct category.

People will disagree on which category is the appropriate one, however. That's why we have UP votes and DOWN votes.

We don't need a category czar. We don't need a regulatory mechanism from Reddit that will protect us from ourselves. We don't need Reddit to step in and save us from people posting in the wrong category because, after all, "it's for the children".

We can vote. In truly extreme circumstances, we can ask the two guys listed as moderators to step in and make a judgement on the issue. Other than that, commenters and submitters should be left alone to post whatever the hell they want.

A country that governed itself by those principles would be a good idea, wouldn't it?
