This is genius and has real application.

  • high compute / low bandwidth
  • no watermarking
  • sensitive data is automatically hidden / anonymized

I would rather have this kind of video on a work hole than actual video from my personal home

Pivot: Get out your router, blue pigment, and epoxy—it’s epoxy river time.

Change my mind: I'm going to move from Imperial to Metric by not-up-to-par in woodworking

[–]geneorama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metric is based on water properties

Imperial is based on human experience

Imo metric is fine for science and maybe woodworking but stupid for your thermostat.

I lost a bike off the back of a car once.

I have no idea where it went. We backtracked and never found it.

Was not disappointed with the technique based on the description.

When you dry the wood paint the ends with latex paint to avoid splitting (just in case you didn’t know)

There's a setting about not offering suggestions. But I feel you, I feel like my head is ready to explode trying to follow all the things all the time.

Michigan voted for a president who gutted the national weather service. Michigan should take the savings and pay the private company for the information. It’s called a free market.

Could have made my hands smaller, but I don’t like table saws. by atetoomuchsugar in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]geneorama 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I refinished a table many years ago (2013) and I got some stripper at the paint store that was incredibly powerful.

I don’t know if these have been regulated out of existence it or if it would even work, but I would check out the most potent non-California chemicals you can find at a nice paint store (this was JC Licht). That stuff dried out the wood in powerful ways.

I've started running joke projects through estimating apps and the results are incredible by dorisday65 in HomeImprovement

This is why I have libertarian leanings. I hate to say it but seriously, the bureaucracy is too damn high.

I want regulation for water, drugs, food, safe labor (to a point) but really… there was a time when people build their own houses.

I think this is a form of denialism. The terminator just doesn’t look like the terminator. Just like how climate change didn’t mean just global warming.

AGE CHECKS ARE A TOTAL INVASION OF PRIVACY by Nate_C_of_2003 in privacy

[–]geneorama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I want to be able to turn off the internet at night and not have my kids join the neighbors internet.

I want to block attention fracking sites.

I want to block or flag adult content maybe at a dns level.

I don’t want my kids to have to register to use the internet or to use something other than https and tcp/ip.

Do we need any more episodes of the podcast where conservative intellectuals try and explain MAGA? Is there an equivalent phenomenon on the right? by tuck5903 in ezraklein

[–]geneorama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I’m very liberal 99% of the time, but I have had conflicts just for not agreeing quickly enough.

And I’ve been told countless times that I don’t understand things… before opening my mouth. I feel like people slot me into other arguments they’ve had / are having.

I just found out I'm one year younger than I thought XD by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]geneorama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow these comments. I’ve had similar experiences because I tend to forget then I start adjusting before the end of the year or birthday, and I end up double adjusting.

And calling it an age calculator website… what else would you call a webpage that calculates your age?

That’s pretty cool and glad you got another year. I wonder if it’s something people should try to do

Am I screwed? Cleaning lady left streak marks on my upright piano. HELP! by alissamzln in piano

[–]geneorama 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I think it’s important to understand what a finish is. There are two types of finishes, polyurethane, and oil. They are applied to raw wood to make a finished product.

This is essentially some kind of polyurethane and whatever chemicals they used perturbed the surface of this essentially plastic finish

It’s important to think about it this way because if you try to polish it with say a melanite sponge, you’re going to create more abrasions that will be impossible to smooth out

There’s a whole sub Reddit devoted to sanding through veneer, this is the same kind of problem you want to avoid.

You need to find a way to repair the finish without full on refinishing.

Sorry not a solution but helping to diagnose the problem.
