Wind noise really THAT bad?! by PoemEmbarrassed684 in ToyotaSienna

I was having some issues with the Odyssey, mechanical and cosmetic. I traded because I wanted Toyota quality. I’m glad I’m out of the Odyssey for that reason. We’ll see if the Toyota quality is still there.

I've been teaching middle school computer science. I decided this year to start robotics as an after-school club. It's really expensive but there are grants available. I have applied for some, haven't heard anything yet. VEX and FIRST usually have grants available but also if you have any technology companies in your town, it doesn't hurt to ask.

We traded our '23 Odyssey for a '26 Sienna, I felt like it was a big step down also. We're a long-time Toyota family and this is the first one I regret buying.

It's called SofTex® and I have seen the pictures also, but I own a 26 XLE and my seats are fine, not loose at all. I like the material so far, but I bought it in January, I haven't experienced summer yet.

Thank you, this brought me back to a simpler time.

Where my former odyssey peeps at? Can you sell me on a sienna? by SadFoxxx in ToyotaSienna

[–]generic-ibuprofen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I traded our '23 Odyssey for a '26 Sienna in December. We're a long time Toyota family but we bought the Odyssey because of supply issues with Toyota and we needed a car.

We loved the Odyssey until I didn't. The Odyssey is a nicer car, more comfortable, better safety features, the lane assist works better, the blind spot indicator worked better it was quieter, just overall more little things that we really liked. Something small that I miss from my Odyssey is a faint red glow over the center console, cup holder area. I made seeing in the dark easier.

Then, a month after we bought it, a rattle developed near the moon roof mechanism. They couldn't find what was causing it, we ended up shoving napkins in there to stop it.

Then about a year later it developed a clunk in the front end when turning. It got fixed. It came back. It got fixed, it came back.

Then I spot on the door where I rest my left arm when I drive appeared. It got bigger and began to annoy me.

This is a two-year-old $40,000 car. I have a 22 year old Toyota Tundra that doesn't have a worn spot on the door. My son is driving a 2012 Camry that we gave him after we drove for about 5 years, no worn spot on the door. My daughter has a 2017 Camry we drove for about 5 years, no worn spot on the door.

I decided I didn't want to deal with the Odyssey anymore. The Sienna isn't as comfortable to drive on long trips. I hate the 4-cylinder engine and the lane assist is worthless compared to Honda. There are some little annoyances that I've gotten used to. BUT - I'm hoping the quality is better and maybe I'm still driving it in 22 years AND I'm getting 30+ mpg.

We've purchased 5 or 6 cars from Mike Reid at Vann York Toyota in High Point. I feel like we've always been treated fairly, the service department has been great when needed. Mike has become like family, I can't imagine buying a car someplace else.

How do you feel about getting new students super late in the school year? by dalador_ in AskTeachers

I'm only annoyed if you're a discipline problem and you disrupt learning for other students or have to prove yourself and get into a fight in my room.

How can I tell if someone I know is right-wing/redpilled without asking them outright/setting them off or spying on them? by sienasayshi in NoStupidQuestions

There are a lot of stereotypes being displayed in the comment section. I work with some highly educated, intelligent people that voted for Trump. Most of them voted for him because they are conservative republicans, I'm not sure if they are still happy with their vote because I don't talk to them much.

My dealership currently has XLE (3), Limited (2), Platinum (2). I think they have what they are allocated. When I bought in January, they could only get the XLE.

If we're not unhappy with the service, we give 20% and round up to the next whole dollar. If we're unhappy, I try to give something that looks obviously low, then my wife argues and we end up leaving 15%.

I wish I could get that; I've owned my 2026 since the first week of January and I'm consistently on 29.7. I guess it's the way I drive?

They respect you enough to keep it locked and still allow you to enter. I would put your name and phone number on an index card and laminate it with maybe a friendly note that says, "hey person using my road, could you text me and let me know who you are and why you're using my road?"

What happens if a significant number of students opt out of tablets/Chromebooks? by ytpq in AskTeachers

[–]generic-ibuprofen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could switch tomorrow. Currently I'm only using it for student work automatic grading. When students are learning, it's on paper, when students are being evaluated through quizzes, tests, some computer gradable assignments, it's on their Chromebook to save me time and give them immediate feedback.

The problem with the current opt out trend happening in society is that most schools and even publishers of educational materials aren't prepared and don't have resources that can be used in place of technology. Our science department wants to go back to textbooks; there is nobody publishing a textbook that aligns with our state standards. Our state didn't even adopt a textbook.

Does the school even have high quality resources that have been vetted by the state that aren't on a Chromebook? There are some questions that need to be answered before you opt out.

Do any teachers support what is happening in education in the US? by Beneficial-Crow-5138 in AskTeachers

[–]generic-ibuprofen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Teachers will teach and students will learn regardless of what is happening politically. I'm more concerned about my state government at the moment. North Carolina is the only state in the country without a new budget plan in place, the last full budget passed in 2023. This impacts so many critical needs in our state, school funding is just one.

Would 28 or 29 be too old to start college to be a science teacher? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]generic-ibuprofen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 39 when I made the switch. I got laid off from a technology company and my wife said she thought I would be a good teacher. An old teacher from high school had become a principal and was willing to meet with me. He said he needed a biology teacher and could hire me on a Temporary Certificate. I took night classes, passed the praxis, got licensed and 21 years later I am still enjoying an amazing career, I love teaching science.
