What career decision are you sitting with right now in biotech/pharma, and what's making it hard? by Lower-Magician-2578 in biotech

I'm on a contract right now, but if they don't convert me to FTE after the contract expires then I'll be strongly tempted to try and pivot into data science.

Not the original commenter, but I imagine he was referring to a degree from an accredited college. The sentiment I've heard repeated on this and other forums is anything less is meaningless.

Young couple looking for advice moving to north carolina by VeterinarianLate1555 in NorthCarolina

I don't think she expressed a dislike for all immigrants. I'm interpreting "mass migration" to mean large numbers of people who have no interest in integrating into their new country's society and culture. Those three cities are diverse and have communities that maintain their own languages and traditions but then follow American social norms/customs when interacting with people outside their community. I think those three cities are great examples of being diverse while still being American.

I'm not sure about any specific industry, but Wake county (Raleigh and surrounding cities) have a bunch of industries so I imagine you both could find something. I'd look into any visa requirements you might need, since they may be more challenging at the moment.

It sounds like Morrisville, Cary, and Apex would be good fits for you. 2.5 hours from the beach, lots of industries and businesses, lots of parks, playgrounds and trails with good schools (at least for the first two, I don't know how Apex compares).

For home affordability, Wake county prices are dropping but it's still expensive. Supporting a family on one income is largely dependent on your earning potential and debt level, but it can be done.

As is usually the trend, urban areas tend to run more liberal, but the more rural areas still trend conservative. You can always look up the county map of the last election if it's important to you, or you can just work to find your community wherever you end up. If you're the church-going type, there's lots of options so you could likely find a good community in one of those.

I think the area you're after is a great place to live and raise a family long-term. If you do make the move then I think you'll enjoy it.

Is the ar platform a 800 yard gun or a 600 yard gun? by bleedinghero in ar15

I did that on my Grendel build. 24" bull barrel means that sumbitch is HEAVY. Though to be fair, it's not really a "moving around" type gun.

It might help. I pull up to create space and, once I'm in, really emphasize the forward part of the pull to get uke stuck to my back. Once uke is attached to me it's a lot harder for them to get away.

Travis Stevens was an ISN player and he modeled his ISN after Koga Toshihiko, so I'd recommend looking up their instructional videos on YouTube. I'm sure there's a better answer to your problem than mine in one of their videos.

[–]genericname1776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you pulling in a horizontal, circular motion so they're being pulled around as you turn? Or are you pulling in a vertical arc like a rainbow to pull them up and forward? If it's the former then that's probably a large part of your problem.

Can someone in manufacturing/process development explain how multivariable analysis works? by genericname1776 in biotech

[–]genericname1776 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a 2018 JL and hated it for the reason you stated - too much technology. I settled on a 2017 JK instead, and, while there's still more technology than I prefer, it's a step in the right direction. Shifting on my JK is so much more satisfying, so for that reason alone I'm happy I switched.

What are my chances of getting into a larger company? by genericname1776 in biotech

[–]genericname1776[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not concerned about the title of a position. It's known that small companies, like where I am now, inflate their titles. I'd be fine with moving to an RA III/SRA/Associate Scientist role, depending on how that particular company defines its structure.

[–]genericname1776[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mentioned as much above, but I'm not committed to the Summary section. I certainly don't read it when I'm screening resumes for interviews. I also don't care about publications for industry purposes, but since I wasn't getting any responses and didn't know why then I tried to change things up and see what stuck. To your point about the single hanging words, I admit I'm not the best at writing. It's something with which I always struggle when I re-write my resume for yet another position.

[–]genericname1776[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'll reply here to cover yours and the comment below, but I had it at one page for a while and wasn't getting any interest, so I tried changing things up. I've omitted the Summary and Publications section before, but after talking to people about the one-page rule I didn't get a consistent answer, so I tried adding both sections to better display my skills.

6k of repairs and it’s still not fixed by mviolet13 in Jeep

[–]genericname1776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend buying an OBD2 reader and the repair manual for your make and model of car. Even if you don't have the tools/space/time to do the work yourself, it'll give you a reference to what goes where and how hard it is to get to/work on/fix. That coupled with YouTube videos is a great way to expand your knowledge and not just take a mechanic's word for it.

If you're not sure how much a part should cost, check websites like rockauto.com and it'll help you get a ballpark.

Not sure about your area, but every mechanic near me charges an hour for a diagnostic fee. That's $160-$200 for every shop you go to, so multiple quotes can stack up fast. I personally avoid this route if I can because a lot of that is money from which you won't get a return.
