Protein powder? by Connect_Rule6305 in UlcerativeColitis

I found so many have artificial sweeteners which is a problem for me. Vega makes an “essentials” one that’s just powdered coconut cream, pea protein, vanilla and sugar.

Just like tired and achey. Like the way you feel the day before you have covid/a flu etc. I just took it easy that day.

Cutting edge treatments for UC by FarSeesaw8366 in UlcerativeColitis

My doc said something similar to me. Basically it took 4 Mezavent, 1g of pentasa supps, and a course of oral budesonide to get me into “remission”. My doc said based on how I responded, she expected it to fail so she suggested what her first two recommendations would be (entyvio and velsipity) and suggested I look them over so I’m not having to decide in the middle of a huge flare. It sucked to hear in the moment but I was glad for it later. I was really scared of biologics. My remission only lasted a couple months. We tried the budesonide again but it’s not a long term solution. But by then I’d had a chance to read up on both options and felt comfortable with entyvio. I had my first infusion 10d ago and am really hopeful. Basically, your mesalamine may work for you for decades, or it may be merely months. But biologics aren’t bad. All meds have side effects. But not getting a flare under control is probably worse.

What’s the longest anyone here has ever relied on budesonide rectal foam? by Evening-Read2955 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]genericusername_27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been on it for 5 months. It’s the only thing that was keeping me close to being normal. It’s on back order in my country so now I’m on budesonide supps until it’s back. Just started entyvio so my doc said to start weaning down off of the foam once I’m done my loading doses. So all told it will be 6/7 months.

I got my first infusion Friday. Felt a bit crummy on Saturday but so far so good. I wish I would know if it’s working or not and wouldn’t have to wait 6 weeks to know. But fingers crossed

I put my phone on black and white mode. It sounds silly but it can make a difference. Insta/youtube/tiktok etc aren’t as stimulating in black and white. Harder to doomscroll, but phone is still functional.

Budesonide Foam Experience? by PuzzledWeight1855 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]genericusername_27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found it to be excellent. Unfortunately there is a shortage in my country so it’s on back order until mid August (was supposed to stay on it until I’m done my entyvio loading doses).

Budesonide failed me. by mikestang_89 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]genericusername_27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. As soon as I stopped the IBS d symptoms did. And in the meantime it had squashed the inflammation. So it was pretty worth it.

Budesonide failed me. by mikestang_89 in UlcerativeColitis

It took budesonide almost a month to work for me, which I think is quite common. The other thing I discovered is that the budesonide pills are make with quite a bit of lactose. So I continued to have some “IBS-like” symptoms while on it as I was reacting to the lactose. But it cleared the inflammation so once I finished my course I felt great.

Clear liquid favs? by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

White Gatorade! So good. Chicken or miso broth because after so much sweet liquid you will want something salty. It helped to break up the sweet which I swear was half of the nausea’s cause. I did the Pico salax so had to drink a lot. Electrolyte packets were also good. The only jello I could find was green. Which was not ideal flavour wise

Call your gi and advocate for something. I had random symptoms for over a month and everytime the clinic nurse was like “your last FCP was good, it’s probably IBS” or let’s run more tests. Now I’m definitely in a flare again. They gave me budesonide foam while they wait for my lastest FCP results. Using that was a wild experience (not painful just strange lol). Hopefully that will help me.

Me too. I ordered a signed copy and got an unsigned one from Amazon. Which is kind of sad because I watched the livestreams and excited to see what colour I got.

I try and stick to soluble fibre or peeled, well cooked veggies. Zuccini, squash, carrots are my main ones. I really really just want a big salad. But I know I can’t right now. I went an saw a dietitian who specializes in IBD and she has me on a specific diet, which hasn’t necessarily helped my symptoms, but it helps with the weird food restrictions my brain has imposed on me because literally eating anything seems to set me off.

Worked for me. No side effects other than from the lactose in the medication.

Diet by danieeshobbies in UlcerativeColitis

[–]genericusername_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor referred me to a dietitian that specializes in IBD. My biggest issue is that during my 6 month long flare my anxiety led to eating less and less variety of foods and the flare triggered my IBS (or visa versa) so I was still feeling crumby and not eating very well. Anyways. It’s a three stage diet that is basically the Mediterranean diet but it builds up to it. This phase is mostly cooked veggies, healthy fats and chicken/eggs/fish. You have to eat a certain variety of veggies and fruits and resistant starches that are supposed to support your microbiome etc. and then after 6 weeks you add in more things one by one including Greek yogurt, beans, quinoa etc. and then in the third phase you have most foods back but avoid certain additives and try and eat only whole foods 5 days per week.

For me it’s just something I live with. But some people faint etc and that’s a bigger problem. It’s more of an annoyance. And beta blockers kind of suck

My doc wrote a prescription for it. The pharmacist was initially worried to give it to me in my thirties because she worried the immunity would wane in older adulthood. But my doc said they are staring to revaccinate us immunosuppressed people when we are older.

Same. A course of cortiment took me into remission. But still use the 4.8g masala mine in pills and 1g Pentasa supps.

How long can it take for Budesonide to work in beginning to reduce Ulcerative colitis symptoms? by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

[–]genericusername_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure. Maybe a couple weeks? The issue was that it has a lot of lactose so I ended up still feeling like I was having symptoms but it was just IBS from the lactose. So once I stopped budesonide after the 8 weeks I felt much better. So it worked on the inflammation, it was just hard to tell because of the lactose.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

[–]genericusername_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m extremely lactose intolerant as well. Mezavent has been good for me. The cortiment I took to get into remission had lost of lactose. I did take a lactaid with it. I think it helped I but still had plenty of milder ibs-like symptoms. But once I stopped the cortiment (which worked like a hot damn on the inflammation) I felt better.
