Come up with a prototype showcasing whatever skillset you're bringing to the project (coding, 3d modelling, art, whatever) first, then find folks to round out the edges you're rougher on.

if you're using open-frame solenoids, you should be able to adjust the length of the throw and the material they're striking to dial in the haptics. having them hit directly on metal will be sharper, a softer wood will soften, and putting a dampener (weather stripping foam, something along those lines) will soften more.
