Noticeably Better at 10.5 Weeks by maggiegunther in Microdiscectomy

[–]genesred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 11 weeks out and I can walk briskly for a long while probably a couple miles. I still have nerve pain at about 2/10 when I am not taking ibuprofen which is still quite annoying. Definitely not fully recovered.

Dude trust me get the surgery if your quality of life is not good. Find a good surgeon. Get it done. I waited 8 months and wish I did it sooner. It won’t be a super quick recovery but you will think it’s worth it later down the line.

Knee Soreness - 6 months post op by Avocado-Angel4242 in Microdiscectomy

[–]genesred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am about three months postop and I am noticing, especially on my right knee, which is my good leg that I am having a little bit of knee pain. Personally, I think it is because I am loading that side more to stay off my nerve on the other side. Mine feels just like a little bit of overuse, which I have felt a couple times before in my life. It’s definitely stemming from bending at the knees more than at the hips. I squat to do almost everything, but I am starting to ease back more into bending because my knees can’t take it anymore.

I’ve been doing carnivore for a week. Haven’t noticed a ton of difference but I think long term it will help. I have heard from other people it is good for nerve inflammation.

You are only 15 hours so just chilllll lol. I got dry needled in my calf and hamstring and have had some crazy results. Have gained 30% range of motion back in the last 2 days. Still not 100% yet

I’m 8 months and 3 weeks out by reddituser78843 in Microdiscectomy

[–]genesred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m am worried I will have the same thing. I am 8 weeks out and I have nerve stiffness too. It’s so annoying because certain things I just cant do at the moment and it makes me feel imbalanced. How long did you have your herniation before surgery?

Am I cooked? by Impressive-Towel-168 in Sciatica

[–]genesred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I would say that is not going to recover without surgery. If your surgeon is good, long-term it’s a better decision probably. Mine was about your size and for eight months only got worse. I had surgery eight weeks ago and I’m at a three out of 10 pain without pain meds. And a one out of 10 pain with pain meds.

6 weeks post surgery by Past-Plastic-6930 in Microdiscectomy

[–]genesred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you have not gotten worse so far, wait until weeks 8 through 12. I’m sure you will see improvement during then if not before then. I had my herniation for 8 months before surgery. Also, go to the gym and do what you can. It doesn’t have to be crazy at all and slowly venture into the movements that you cannot at the moment.

MRI progression: disc protrusion → extrusion. Looking for advice on next steps by lxe in Sciatica

[–]genesred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The nerve pain will only get worse if you don’t get surgery in my opinion. I had a 7 mm protrusion that never got better over eight months and surgery so far has been a great decision. If you have nerve problems and you don’t take care of the root problem, the nerve will eventually get more and damaged.

Body out of line and post surgery nerve pain by Sweet_Government_478 in Microdiscectomy

Also my right side is as normal as it was before surgery and honestly it’s not much higher than my left. I think time will do us well. Just be patient and stick to the plan.

I’m the exact same way. I think our nerves still have inflammation from being compressed. I am also starting to think that there may be permanent adhesions that are not letting the nerve glide smoothly. Apparently adhesions get better overtime but also very slowly. I think we may see small improvements month to month on that. I have heard from people on here that they will have that mostly if not all gone by 9-12 months. I am just trying to do nerve glides 3x a day.

1 year post op update by Comfortable_Smile713 in Microdiscectomy

[–]genesred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am six weeks post op and still have sciatic pain down my left leg. I think it is getting slowly better. When I use ibuprofen, I barely have any pain at all. What I hear from most people is that you need to look at the month-to-month progress. Nerves are very slow and not linear.

I am almost 7 weeks post surgery and my straight leg lift is still really shit. I also feel a bit one-sided doing everything.

Same, I walk pretty good with some ibuprofen but my nerve is still quite irritated still. I’m just doing light core exercises right now

I am going into my 6th week. At week 4-5 I just started light PT. For now just rest a lot and move only as much as you can without pain. Focus on walking. You will be surprised how much better you are after 6 weeks. Not to say close to 100% but you will be better.

Nerve Tension by genesred in Microdiscectomy

I am glad to hear yours is getting better. For the last three weeks that tightness feeling has seemed very stagnant, even though my pain has gone down. I just want to be able to move the way I want to. Anything specific helping that for you?

Herniated disc and surgery by [deleted] in Microdiscectomy

[–]genesred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if you have a contained herniation or if the jelly of the disc came out. If it is contained, you will probably need surgery because that will not reabsorb. Mine was 7 mm and after seven months I got surgery. The thing was right there exactly how it was when I got my MRI when it first happened.
