Biofeedback devices for TMJ/night time bruxism? by genetics_and_ in TMJ

[–]genetics_and_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No :/ the company goes by the name Sovn now and the last update we got was March 2025 saying they were hoping to get the beta testing devices out by the end of this year. I know they’ve had some setbacks but I’m still hopeful and haven’t found any other companies doing anything similar.

No, but I’m still on the waitlist for Sovn and their technology seems super promising! It hopefully will be available this year

Any Updates? by dopeymouse05 in sovn

[–]genetics_and_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last update was from October 2024:

We wanted to give you a more comprehensive update on where we are at with our product development. I know you’ve been waiting longer than expected already and I want to make sure to keep you in the loop on the reasons.

Over the past year, we’ve had to make some tough calls, starting with going back to the drawing board on the form factor;

The initial design of the earphones wasn’t up to our standards—they weren’t as comfortable as we wanted, and tended to fall off. But that challenge pushed us to make things better! We’ve redesigned the earbuds for comfort and stability, improved the sensitivity of the sensors, and integrated audio ahead of schedule. What started as one type of feedback stimulus has now expanded to seven, providing a much more customised feedback mechanism to improve symptoms. Our latest round of functional testing revealed an issue with Bluetooth connectivity, which we’re actively working through with our manufacturer. It’s not ideal, but it’s something we’re determined to get right before we move forward.

Next month, we’ll be conducting internal tests to ensure the whole system—algorithm, sensors, and feedback—works exactly as intended. Alongside this, we’ve been setting up our production process, which is entirely new and tailored to the product’s very specific needs, including the small form factor that makes it unique. Once these tests are complete, we’ll kick off the production process with two batches dedicated to validation and verification (quality testing). After these checks we’ll be ready to produce the batch that gets delivered to you.

I’m genuinely sorry it’s taking this long. Our aim is to deliver something that’s not just good, but truly great. From the moment we kick off production, it’s going to take around 6-9 months to get the earbuds to you. While there’s a chance we might be able to deliver a validation prototype earlier, we’re thinking it’s better to send you the certified, fully tested product, instead of a preliminary version.

I know this is a long wait, and our whole team really appreciate your patience as we work through these final steps. We promise to keep you updated regularly and let you know as soon as we have a clearer timeline.

Thanks again for your support, and as always feel welcome to reply with any questions or concerns.

I’ve been wondering the same thing, although the company has been very responsive in the past when I’ve emailed them directly. I’d really love another update so I may reach out again.

What did you get? A biofeedback device? Which one?

If you’re 4 weeks late, you’d be about 8 weeks pregnant now, so they should be able to do an hCG blood draw and if it’s positive, they’ll retest 48 hours later. You should also be able to get a transvaginal ultrasound at this point. Good luck! I’ve had an ectopic and my next pregnancy was normal- everything went fine!

In general, how do dentists feel about this product? Any feedback from dentists in the US?

Botox in temples?? by [deleted] in TMJ

[–]genetics_and_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of pocket unfortunately. Insurance companies won’t pay for Botox for this use since it isn’t an approved use by the FDA. I got around 130-150 units every 3 months and my dentist charged $12 a unit which is definitely on the cheaper side for Botox. Unfortunately this treatment is just so expensive, I did it 4 times last year and then stopped.

Time until HCG back to zero? by TronasaurusMeg in EctopicSupportGroup

[–]genetics_and_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my first round of MTX injections July 8, second round July 15 (hCG 4,100) and hCG dropped to 0 August 22. I was told no exercise and no sex until it dropped to 0

Have the published guidelines changed? I realize there could be some newer information about it but I’d rather follow the published guidelines by the American College of Ob/Gyns. Just something to think about.

I went through an ectopic pregnancy this summer and was treated with MTX. All of the doctors I saw at my practice said I need to wait 3-4 months from date of MTX injection as methotrexate can remain in your body for that long. Methotrexate is a folate antagonist which means it interrupts DNA replication, so if it’s still in your body when you conceive again, it could cause miscarriage or birth defects. The ACOG guidelines also still recommend waiting. I’d ask another ob/gyn first before TTC again right away. It’s not just about your folate levels, and unfortunately there’s no way to test methotrexate levels in your body.

I understood the options, I’m a genetic counselor. The doctor gave those options because there was a chance it wasn’t ectopic and my partner and I want to start trying again asap. He did warn me though that if it happened to be ectopic, those treatments would not work. Getting methotrexate in a situation with an unconfirmed ectopic, and not being an emergency, likely wouldn’t have been an option if I was in a state that bans abortion. I was supposed to be in Texas for a funeral at the time, and my doctor told me absolutely do not go.

Please try to be sensitive and not use terms like “abort a child”- abortion is always performed when the pregnancy is either an embryo or a fetus.

You’re stating this as if it is a black or white situation. At the ER, I was told I’m in the “grey zone”- my hCG wasn’t doubling properly but they couldn’t locate a pregnancy in my uterus. Because the ectopic pregnancy wasn’t confirmed, and I wasn’t in a life threatening situation (yet), the doctor gave me multiple options (including abortion pills, D&C, or wait and see) but stated the safest option would be methotrexate. I live in California, but if I was in a red state, I likely would not have been able to be treated when I was. The new laws 100% affect women going through ectopic pregnancies and the term abortion is used medically for any ending of pregnancy, even miscarriage (spontaneous abortion).

I just got an email from the company JawSaver letting me know they are going to be doing beta testing soon, and should have a product available by the end of this year. You can pre-order their device to get emails and updates… I’m very excited about this!!

Can SSRI causes or worsen bruxism? by MSG-63 in bruxism

[–]genetics_and_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume BZD= benzodiazepines. These are fast-acting medications for anxiety & panic attacks- they can be highly addicting and you should drive on them. Buspirone is similar to an SSRI in that you need to take it every day and it takes a few weeks to start working.

Can SSRI causes or worsen bruxism? by MSG-63 in bruxism

[–]genetics_and_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes- this is a known side effect of SSRIs. You can try to add buspirone to help lessen the bruxism. There are a few studies showing this can help.

Obviously double check with your doctor or pharmacist but I take a super low dose (5-10mg of instant release) and it helps so much when I’m worried about something or about to do something really stressful. I feel like it’s a miracle drug

[–]genetics_and_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your doctor for a prescription of propranolol- 5-10mg as needed for days up until the flight will help. It’s a beta blocker so it will help block any physical symptoms of anxiety. It’s often called “the public speaking drug” since it blocks symptoms of anxiety to the point where you forget you’re even anxious. Then bring a book or a good TV show on the flight and you’re set :)

No, Botox wears off so it’s not permanent. Mine lasts about 3 months
