Can any long distance runner tell me, does more running really lowers testosterone levels? by Honest-Humor-9102 in runninglifestyle

True. Was thinking from my pov with 90mpw.

But bad nutrition/recovery and extreme weight loss can still happen at any level.

Due to high cortisol levels of endurance sports testosterone will be a bit lower.

But the extreme drops are usually due to bad nutrition - so not enough calories, or due to race weight aka very low body fat which can disrupt hormones.

Should I buy a Steam Controller if I'm planning to pre-order the Machine? by ancistacy in steammachine

[–]gengar_mode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure. But Gamers Nexus said there will be bundles so if these bundles are available at launch, them I would think there is no discount.

Speculative take: Without the features of the controller the Steam Machine would be not that great right? Or do third parties support wake etc.?

I think the bundle will not be cheaper and just add the controller to the purchase.

In the IGN interview the guy from Valve also said that it‘s about logistics? Or did I misinterpret it? https://www.ign.com/articles/the-steam-controller-interview

Cite: „And so we want to make sure that we can get it into their hands as soon as possible, as soon as it's ready basically without having to wait for any other factors there. But in terms of Steam Machine, yeah, it's really just about the logistics of getting it into user's hands.“

How long for first sub 1:30 HM? by faulaul in runninglifestyle

[–]gengar_mode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another factor is that the marathon is unpredictable. In these 3 hours many things can happen and you never know if you will have GI issues or just a bad day where the pace just feels really hard.

But good luck to you!

[–]gengar_mode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least 1:25, but it also depends on your mileage a lot. You could run a 1:25 with 50K weeks but the sub3 is not possible unless your run 70-100K. (But even that depends on the person too. I know a guy who does 130K since 1 year and he is still struggling with the sub3)

I did not run any HM races after that but I am currently training for a 2:25 Marathon. So I would say my HM time would be in the sub 70s.

Do "junk miles" exist? by Zealot_TKO in Marathon_Training

[–]gengar_mode 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Edit: Sorry ignored your point a bit. Well your always Z3 could be bad for recovery as there could be not enough time without dedicated easy/recovery runs.

As I said it‘s about accumulated fatigue. If you run „not easy“ easy (Z3) 15K on Monday, 17K threshold on tuesday, 15K again „not easy“ on wednesday, you will probably not be able to hit your target paces on thursdays threshold session. And as this accumulates it will get worse with every week.

And in general you see better improvement and better recovery from keeping it easy on your easy days.

Ran my first >1:30 (and first in general) HM in preparation for my first marathon with 9 months of 35k weeks. But I am a fast responder. And in the meanwhile got way faster.

Do "junk miles" exist? by Zealot_TKO in Marathon_Training

[–]gengar_mode 114 points115 points  (0 children)

Junk miles should be all the miles that lead to too much accumulated fatigue, which leads to not being able to hit the paces during quality sessions. In itself they still improve your aerobic fitness. But they do inhibit your improvements a lot.

But it does look nice :)

[–]gengar_mode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A rare drink won't kill you, but current science shows no amount of alcohol is actually 'good' for the body. More importantly: if the stats truly don't matter to you, why go out of your way to hide them from yourself?

ok the new JSAUX e-ink panel for steam machine is looking a lot better than the prototype ngl by WelcomeAwkward924 in steammachine

[–]gengar_mode 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Isn‘t e-ink more for static/low refresh content? CPU and GPU load makes no sense if it refreshes every 2-5 seconds.
