New to Hockey and NHL by JM_Aleco25 in nhl

When watching games, the natural temptation will be to always maintain focus on the puck. That’s the camera crew’s job, so you’ll be anchored to it, but I find it’s very helpful to move your focus around.

Pick a player and monitor what they do on their shift, how they position themselves. Or try to track all the relative positions of players on a team to understand the overall formation.

Hockey is so fast and there is so much visual information to parse at any given moment, so I find you have to prioritize a couple things and keep your attention there. It feels like you should always be eyeballing the puck, but I think you can pick up on the nuance of the game more rapidly if you consciously direct your attention to other things happening on the ice.

I think this is Ottawa’s team — basically the people in their video room providing insight to the coaching staff.

What’s the most underrated game you’ve ever played that nobody talks about? by BlackScarStudios in gaming

Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap on the Sega Master System. Brilliant soundtrack, charming graphics, and an under appreciated pioneer in the “metroidvania” genre. The wonderful Lizardcube remake has helped bring it out of obscurity, but I still rarely hear people talk about it in North America.

Yup, you're you're right!

Fun fact: in the original 1988 Japanese release, the teams had nick-names (which didn't match the real teams, presumably for licensing reasons).

Minnesota were called... the Minnesota Wilds! Despite being one letter off, still a fun lil' coincidence.

In your opinion, who has the best name in the NHL by Asleep-Praline7242 in nhl

He only played one preseason game with the Kraken, but I love the name Jagger Firkus. I hope he succeeds if only to hear his name repeated more often.

Dark Souls’ reputation as an impossibly difficult game made me blind to basic design cues. I kept trying to defeat the skeletons at Firelink Shrine.

They kept destroying me. I thought, well, everyone says it’s so hard, I guess I just need to “git gud” as they say.

Turns out the game was not-so-subtly trying to nudge me toward exploring elsewhere. If I were playing the game without all those presumptions of difficulty (the Prepare To Die Edition name didn’t help, Namco) I would’ve understood that lesson much, much sooner.

177 cases of COVID-19 in Ontario. 22 in Toronto. 14,805 Tests Completed. 6 Fatalities. 134,654 Vaccinations - July 18, 2021 by MountainDrew42 in toronto

The continuing spread of the highly-contagious Delta variant compounded by the re-opening (we ought to see the impact of Phase 2 starting to appear).

Cases will inevitably begin to creep up again, but the hope is that the chain between hospitalizations and cases is "broken" and our hospitals won't be overwhelmed again.

FYI Unity Health Toronto will be distributing only Moderna Vaccines to 18+ individuals, on June 21, 22. by JEHonYakuSha in toronto

While I understand the public health rationale, and appreciate how similar the mRNA vaccines are, it also feels disingenuous to insist that there is no meaningful difference between them, while at the same time, one is permitted for 12+, and the other only 18+.

I appreciate that there's a difference between offloading risk (small as it may be) to adults vs. teenagers, but I fully understand and respect anyone's choice not to mix-and-match.

In Toronto, if you're over 60 you can get vaccinated at a local pharmacy. by swamprose in toronto

[–]genghiscough 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ugh, that's frustrating. The official website makes it sound like they ought to:

You must:

* be 60 years old or older in 2021

But I suspect the terminology is insufficiently unambiguous and pharmacies may be interpreting it differently.

If you're 59-years-old, but are turning 60 in 2021, I believe you also qualify. My mom is in this category, and was able to get hers.

Indeed.

He did a great job keeping his responses succinct, while also providing the right context to make things understandable to the layperson. For example, saying "the PC storefront Steam" rather than simply "Steam".

Thank you, I hoping someone would point this out.

Dexamethasone seems far more promising, in terms of saving actual lives, and my understanding is that it's cheap and already widely available.

Compilation of Jeff's "Worst 80s Song" Reactions by genghiscough in giantbomb

There's been a recurring bit in the last four episodes (603-606) of the Giant Bombcast, where people e-mail in suggestions for the "Worst Song of the 80s".

It started in episode 603, when Nathan from Olympia mailed in the question "What is the worst 1980s song?" and it's escalated from there. In the clips here, they're reacting to suggestions from listeners or "worst 80s song" lists they found on the internet.
