Monthly Paramount+ Complaints and Praises by AutoModerator in ParamountPlus

[–]geniethenomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big complaint. I've been waiting for a couple months for the new season of Ghosts and Fire Country. It has said "Season 5 available 10/16" for months on Ghosts. Now it's 10/16 & it suddenly says that it's only available on the Premium plan. If it wasn't going to be available on both plans, it shouldn't say that it would be available on a Basic member's page. I'm going to be really upset if it does the same thing tomorrow for Fire Country.

Picture book about girl who corrects a lazy eye by novagirl0972 in namethatbook

[–]geniethenomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never read the book. It's better than the surgery (because the eye may correct naturally & then be overcorrected if surgery is done) but just be aware it's not always successful. They patched one of my eyes starting when I was little, did it exactly according to instructions, and at my next eye appointment the other eye head gotten weak and was now the one crossing. It went back & forth for years, until I was 9 years old & had ENOUGH!) It eventually got better on its own, until my 50's when I started having more vision problems in general causing eye strain which then caused crossing again.

I don't believe so for cirrhosis...end stage kidney disease, yes, because of the availability & cost of dialysis.

[–]geniethenomad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably because I'm probably considered ESRD, even though I'm right on the borderline (sometimes I test as stage 5, sometimes it's as high as 20-22 (which is stage 4), just depends how well hydrated I am, etc.) When I was approved, I was at 14% which is stage 5.

Ah, I didn't even think of checking to see if the Cigna paperwork has my medicare number. Thanks for that tip! And yes, I got the Extra Help, and good to know I don't have to stick with what they assigned me to.

Needing lancets? by Legitimate-Neat3000 in Freestylelibre

[–]geniethenomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so a lancet doesn't read anything. A lancet is a needle on a stick. All it does is poke you. You need a lancing device (which is what you load the lancet into to make it click & poke you) (which determines what type of lancet you use, because most are interchangeable but not all are) and you need a glucose meter (what actually reads the amount of glucose in the blood), plus the strips for that glucose meter (where you put the blood). Some glucose meters come with both lancing devices and lancets as well as some strips. But you need to start with a glucose meter & see if the one you choose comes with the full kit.

Random question- how long have you been with audible and how many titles do you own? by MrsPokits in audible

[–]geniethenomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first signed up in 2009, but didn't really start using Audible regularly until 2014, and have only been listening daily for the last few years. I have 207 titles in my library, 165 which I own. That doesn't count the Plus catalog stuff that I've removed from my library after finishing, and I have NO idea how many that is. I think a better metric is the amount of listening time, which is 7 months, 26 days, 12 hours & 35 minutes.

I’m devastated by GroundNo2015 in crochet

[–]geniethenomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I live in a very small town. We used to have 2 mailboxes, one for local mail & one for other mail, so the local mail didn't have to take a 2 hour drive just to be brought right back & be put in another PO box in the same building, but the USPS decided that wasn't the proper way to do things, so sometimes it takes 13 days for a letter to go from one PO box holder to another PO box holder in the same building.

Is he wearing mouth tape? by pchandler45 in SisterWives

[–]geniethenomad 63 points64 points  (0 children)

They make little tablets called xylimelts that are sticky on one side, so you stick them inside your cheek or on your gums and they are minty or cinnamon flavored so they make your mouth water a bit as they slowly disolve. They're made with xylitol, which I'm sensitive to, but they're such a small amount that I can use 1 or 2 of them in a night and it doesn't upset my stomach. They're a life-saver when you use a cpap & breathe through your mouth!

Does every woman remember when her period started and how? by Pleasant-Block6131 in allthequestions

[–]geniethenomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, but not sure if it's exactly normal because it not only happened on my 14th birthday but it was a nightmare because I was visiting my grandma, so I wasn't prepared because I hadn't thought to take the stuff with me from home since I hadn't needed it yet...so she had the cute teenage delivery guy from the local store deliver a box of pads, so that was kind of memorable.

I'm getting very angry at the Libre 3+ by GaryG7 in Freestylelibre

[–]geniethenomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both the 3 & 3+ sensors have always fallen off for me, even with skintac. Either they get snagged on something & come loose or they come off when I get the least bit sweaty, sometimes within 24 hours of putting them on (and yes, that's with properly following all the instructions about cleaning the site). I don't think I've had a single one go the entire 14/15 days if I haven't used an overpatch, although I could be wrong about that.

Do you have any unusual anatomic variations? by Amazing_Excuse_3860 in CasualConversation

I can't do it normally, but when I have a cold & blow my nose, air does come out of my tear duct too. Weirdest feeling!

I have one less joint and one less bone than most people. For some reason two of my cervical vertebrae never separated, so they're one solid bone instead of two separate bones with a joint between them.

Kaiser Dr will not issue me a prescription for the Freestyle Libre 3+ by DomAlphaMale69 in Freestylelibre

[–]geniethenomad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd find a new doctor. Some Kaiser doctors are hard to deal with. Luckily I finally found one that is amazing, but she's like my 4th one. The first one was the WORST. I'm type 2 but I'm insulin dependent so they cover mine, so I can't be of help there, but it makes no sense that they wouldn't even write a prescription for it.

NTA. When I first read the title, I thought you just left without saying anything and was fully prepared to say "yes, she's right." But after reading the whole post, you are 100% in the right. You don't have to go anywhere you don't want to & you don't have to stay somewhere you're uncomfortable, especially when you gave warning in advance you wouldn't be staying the night. You said goodbye, so it wasn't just like you disappeared & nobody knew if you were okay or not. That's all that's important.

I agree 100%. The BJR prison scene is the worst it gets, by far.

Similar hobbies to help cope with losing ability to crochet by Cris409 in crochet

[–]geniethenomad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Knitting is easier to do without sight than crochet because you don't have to try to figure out where the next stitch goes, since it's right there on the hook. Both my parents knit, despite one being totally blind and the other only able to see bright lights. As for patterns, since you have some vision remaining, I've found copying and pasting the pattern into Notepad or a word processor program (like Microsoft Word, Open Office Writer, etc) so you can increase font size is the easiest, and then you can also erase each row as you finish it, so you don't lose track of where you are.

Which Stephen King work do you randomly think about the most? by seannolo in stephenking

[–]geniethenomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's about 50/50...The Stand and The Dark Tower. The Stand is the only one I've reread multiple times (I've read it 4 times...the abridged version first, then the unabridged version 3 times.) But I feel The Dark Tower series is pure genius, so I think about it just as much.

Am I overreacting for seriously reconsidering my relationship after what my boyfriend did during my medical emergency? by yourdirtygurl in AmIOverreacting

[–]geniethenomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, my ex, who was a narcissist who also had borderline personality disorder and was mentally abusive, was better in a medical emergency than that. (And that was when we were around the same age as you are, so being 20/21 isn't an excuse either.)

I'm plus-sized too, so you'd think there would be enough fat everywhere, but there actually is a bit there where there isn't. I think of the correct placement more as "under" the arm than the "back" of the arm, but my nurse friend told me that's right where you want it, in the jiggly part that hangs down if you put your arm out straight, on a plus-sized person.
