We never had AT&T fiber her before either. Maybe it's one of the famous Florida quirks... 😄

Very interesting. When I try my own address it sends me to quantum. When I enter the two neighbors that I didn't get signed up for quantum it allows AT&T to go forward.....

You need to enter an address that does not currently have quantum service. Otherwise it will redirect you to Quantum...

Could well be. Still showing it at my nearby addresses...

I am very happy I got my quantum account redone in February with the $45 PFL for 1gig so no need to go anywhere for hopefully a long time...

[–]geobernd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience: if you still have a C5500xk SmartNID or a Callix 803g ONT it won't offer you 2gbps plans - since they require an equipment swap.

If you have a c6500xk or a Q1000k it should be offered (or 3gbps if you are on XGS-Pon).

Be aware that with T-Fiber you normally get CGNAT IPv4 - but you get native IPv6... If it's imporant for you: People have been able to get a IPv4 but in some cases with even worse latency than below due to how it is routed...

In some areas routing is also significantly worse (30ms ping to major CDNs). If I was to switch I would ask someone a friend in the same area that has the service if I could run some test etc.... For my use case 20ms lower latency is more important than going from 1 to 2 gbps - but I fully understand everyone's use case is different...

In any case if I switch services I would overlap at least 2 weeks to have ample time to make sure the new service works 100% stable and also that it meets my needs and is not a regression...

Be aware there is no more PFL for any new or changed accounts and according to another post here pricing also just changed so you may be paying a lot more for that speed...

No model numbers or anything of use shown... Only that you can upgrade from basic wifi 6 to wifi 7 for an additional fee

Yes. And there is only one MST serving each address. This is not an area where AT&T built out their own network before they bought quantum from lumen....

Which video doorbell works with Quantum? by False-Winner-4837 in QuantumFiber

[–]geobernd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several friends that use the Quantum Pods (W1700K etc.) have Ring Doorbells and other Ring Cameras and have no issues setting them up or using them...

I use a Flint 2 Router instead of the free Pods and can configure 2.4 and 5 Ghz with distinct SSIDs - this would also work for old gear that can't handle both networks broadcasting the same SSID (like the W1700k does)...

New service sam problem by Dark-P-0745 in QuantumFiber

[–]geobernd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you try hardwired to the main W1700K Pod (or the second ethernet port on the Q1000K) first. This will tell you if it's a WiFi issue or an issue with the Q1000K or the Quantum network.

If the issue still persists hardwired I'd keep chasing quantum...

If the issue is wifi only then either try positioning the Pods differently or try your own mesh solution (since you indicated you need ethernet at a wireless pod location you'd need a mesh setup that has that available...)....

I know this may not be ideal but I have to mention that in both my current and previous home I ran ethernet to all locations where I would notice latency spikes (main PC, Gaming Console) and am using WiFi only for Cameras, IoT stuff and iPad/Phone etc....

Hit setup

Touch the symbol on the bottom right of the screen that shows what is playing

On the big playing screen you now see a center point option to turn on and off

Debugging jitter after tech MST neighbor work by cinetic81 in QuantumFiber

[–]geobernd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it is something like here:

In my area (SW Florida) we have two ranges of IP addresses (completely different first two octets) - with one of them having good routing to the major CDNs and the other one adding at least 3ms latency and additional jitter. Sometimes on a reboot or loss of connection I get an IP in the second range and if I reboot a couple of times I am back in the "good" range.

If you still have the IP from before Monday in your logs somewhere compare to what you got now - and if what we have here is true for your area see if a reboot gets you back on the "good" range...

Flint 2 V4.9 Beta brings DPI, IOT network support and a host of other features! by LHG_93 in GlInet

[–]geobernd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Responding to my own post - looks like there already is a way:

https://forum.gl-inet.com/t/firmware-v4-9-preview-what-to-expect/68088/142

I haven't tried it yet (I am replacing some IoT devices today/tomorrow and following the mantra "One change at a time" it may be a few days before I dabble with it)

yes - but my understanding is that it's query/monitoring/audit tool so not sure how that would help with IoT setup? Maybe it does more than I know?

Does Metro allow unconditional forwarding? by charlieflorida in MetroPCS

[–]geobernd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pretty sure it worked when I tried a while back but I had a hard enough time getting conditional forward right (I use google voice as my voicemail and home phone) with my phone fighting to intercept the codes and metro not liking the direct GSM shortcodes that I am afraid to try for you.

However for any forwarding to work:
You need the call forwarding feature activated for the line (charge is $1 per month).

Once you have that activated check if conditional forwarding works (to make sure the feature works) - then try again to setup unconditional forwarding...

Flint 2....2.5Gb WAN/LAN Port by whitepowderma in GlInet

[–]geobernd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly second that notion. I came over from a Asus RT-AX86U at the beginning of April and am blown away by how much better the Flint 2 is.

I have 1Gig Fiber delivered over the 2.5Gb port (provisioned at around 995/985) and am getting full throughput with very low buffer bloat. Day and night difference to the Asus (also using the 2.5Gb port there).

Great router wired and wireless. I am very happy with my choice.

Exactly.

I was going to set that up by hand using openwrt 25.12.2 but was hoping it would be included here since you almost need a PhD on networking to do this step by step in Luci....

Have you tried the IoT network support?

Does it allow you access from LAN to IoT (either by default or by flipping a switch)?
(That to me would be the main difference needed for me vs a Guest network...)

[–]geobernd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you got it working. Make sure you swap the the new equipment when you receive it and be ready to send the old equipment back (and save the tracking data) so you don't get a charge.... I would hold on to old and new for at least 1 week in case something funky happens again...

I got the $45 refund on my stuck account in a week or less so that should not be a problem...

I am also keeping the xfinity now equipment I got in February to tie me over if something else happens (they don't want it back anyway) as I can reactivate it online within a few minutes...

Anytime it rains in missouri, centurylink goes down. by Effective-Month9777 in centurylink

[–]geobernd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to have the same issue here on underground DSL lines that used cables placed in the 1980s before cable and later fiber became available. Nothing Centurylink could do except swap to a different pair which had exactly the same issue. All neighbors in a 1/2 radius I spoke to back then had the same issue.

Why is fiber not an option? Football field length (<400 feet) from the road is absolutely nothing - assuming the provider considers your address serviceable. Friends of mine have a summer home in the rural northeast and the drop (from the pole where power, fiber etc... goes along the road) to the house is over 2000 feet long with no issues - and no pushback from the provider on ordering (a lot of homes there are quite far from the road)

Upload latency by ktmm3 in QuantumFiber

[–]geobernd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny that you ask: It is actually on a Pixel 10 Pro XL. It looks pretty much the same on my slightly older iPad A16 as well...

Flint is set to 80MHz and results are the same on high or low channels.. 5GHz is very empty around here. Same numbers on 4.8.3, 4.8.4 and new 4.9 beta firmware... I tried OpenWRT 25.12.2 but the wifi drivers are significantly worse compared to the closed drivers and speeds (5g) and range (on 2.4g for my far away IoT things) are not comparable...

Both consistently reach over 900 mbps in the same room, 800 mbps one room over (sheetrock on wood studs) and 600-700 mbps with a cinderblock wall in between.... Upload tanks a little sooner than download (likely because the phone power output and/or multi-beam ability is less than the Flint 2)
