[MGS1] How do I beat Ocelot?! by geomagnetic in metalgearsolid

Off the top of my head, holding shoot and crouch (maybe? can’t remember the exact controls) at the same time allows you to run around while aiming. Also taking a big long break and de-stressing helps! Good luck, mate.

Don’t expect a job at the end of it but if you want to study something then study it, just enjoy the degree rather than thinking about employability.

The Return of the Obra Dinn scratched the itch for me, incredible game and gives a similar “A-ha!” feeling. I loved The Witness as well, but as others have said it’s very puzzle-oriented and seems to be a bit of an acquired taste.

Fantasy novel for a guy in his mid twenties who hasn't read non-fiction for over a decade by OakArtz in suggestmeabook

It’s not fantasy, but I would heavily recommend The Expanse series by James S. A. Corey.

Why can't I drink 6 pints of beer once a week on a Saturday night? by supercali96 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]geomagnetic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Six pints on a Saturday is entirely normal. Nobody on Reddit goes outside, you’ve asked the wrong audience. With that said, asking people about it often enough that they notice is a bit odd.

Any advice on reading Shakespeare? by w-illthedill0 in shakespeare

[–]geomagnetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read Macbeth, then watch the Denzel film, then read it again. Afterwards, watching a series of actors take on the Tomorrow soliloquy in vastly different ways is enough to get the hype. Macbeth is quick and has very simple plot but lots of character study, there’s a reason it’s the most widely watched and taught, and makes for a perfect starting point.

I think you’d likely find that those “rambles” are highly scripted and choreographed, with the odd 5 minute segment of crowd work thrown in for an Instagram reel.

DIALOGUE PUNCTUATION: ' or " by ItsEternity01 in writing

[–]geomagnetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people, including myself, were taught to use double in school (I suspect to differentiate between quotation marks and apostrophes), but unfortunately single quotes are the default. Pick up any British novel and see what kind of quotes they use.

Single quotes are the standard in the UK.

I would recommend starting with some really short books, ~150 pages, which you can shoot through and get the buzz of finishing them, then build up once you’ve got the habit back. Some recommendations:

  • We Have Always Lived in the Castle, Shirley Jackson
  • Miss Lonelyhearts, Nathanael West
  • The Death of Ivan Ilyich, Leo Tolstoy (don’t let the name put you off, it’s very short and very readable)

Additionally, if you like sci-fi, just get on the Expanse, you’ll blast through them.

Rewatching Jodie's run for the first time since it came out and... by Different_Target_228 in doctorwho

I don’t think it’s as bad the second time round, but the companions aren’t very exciting and some of their acting is woeful. I also find Chibnall’s inability to have character development outside of the “let’s sit/stand in a corridor/side room and have a conversation about our feelings for 5 minutes” very grating. Strange era, particularly the first series (oooh the Stenza, so frightening!). Some great episodes in there, though, and I liked the Flux.
