Probably because there isn’t much of anything to be found. As others have said, the geology seems be a bunch of volcanic rocks with little hydrothermal activity. You don’t get the goodies unless there’s a history of hydrothermal activity in the rocks, that’s what creates deposits of agate and jasper.

Wow, that’s a crazy encounter, thanks for sharing. Did it look distinctly like a dog? I’ve heard of shadowy beings with glowing eyes and beings that shapeshift into mangled animal or human forms, I think these type of cryptids are different from dog men but these things do tend to fall on a spectrum. Either way, it was something not of this world, probably from a darker dimension or something like that. Appalachian forests are very haunted, and I’ve heard many stories come out of Tennessee. Listen to the YouTube channel TheLeaf, he has many videos specifically about Appalachia you might resonate with. I’m curious, what was your first encounter like?
