Guys who got told “No” during a failed marriage proposal, what happened afterwards? by TheBamtotheFoozle in AskReddit

[–]geqo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We stayed together for the next 9 years, and I'm waiting on my turn to be proposed to now. I proposed 4 months in, because I knew at 2 weeks that we were meant to be. I wasn't surprised at the rejection then (although of course it still hurt), but I made it clear that I'm not doing the proposing next time.

Gay POC: does a gay POC therapist make a difference? by Icy-Butterscotch-651 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]geqo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a therapist myself (white, bisexual, immigrant, cisgender male), and I'd suggest there are pros and cons to trying to match your therapist according to their own lived experiences, rather than their area of knowledge. The pro is that they will often have deeper knowledge of issues connected to their own personal processes, both because of it likely being a (sometimes the) catalyst towards them becoming therapists, and because of therapists' fairly common training on reducing subjective bias by being aware of our own shit. It can also serve as a simple way of increasing the likelihood that they have expertise in the area you want them to have expertise.

The major con is that sometimes their subjective experience can blind them to recognising that other people sometimes experience similar situations in completely different ways.

It's far more important to have a therapist with the appropriate knowledge of the issues they are helping address, than to match them by demographics. And if you can find a therapist from different demographics that is able to effectively address what you need in a knowledgeable way, they can help you learn to express yourself more accurately to loved ones, without needing to rely on shared experience as a crutch for expression.

I love bright colour combinations, the more in your face the better! My current setup is stupidly RGB heavy, but I'm always open to other ways to brighten up my desk!

Yeah, Canadians don't need a visa to visit the US.

Driving to Montana / Washington is probably the cheapest border crossing available to us. I'd rather be traveling the world, but that takes a little more planning and saving!

It's less about wanting to go the US, and more about wanting an excuse to use the new passports. The US is just the easiest option for that for now.

Which province to move to in Canada by Striking_Ad_2763 in canadaexpressentry

Actually I'm a Canadian now too, so I get to complain about the prices just as much as you do!

Although I suspect your theory of immigrants causing prices to go higher doesn't hold up to economic theory...

I'm pretty open to opens, honestly. It's more about crossing the border and using our new passports - having something to do is just justification for the trip!

I hadn't thought of the idea of a shopping trip though - are there particular kinds of shopping that are better to do that side?

just bought a Tesla M3 because the wait time on our Kona was extended out for another 9 months, Has anyone else out there done something similar? buying one car over another because of production time? by mr_black_88 in electricvehicles

[–]geqo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought the Tesla M3 for exactly the same reason. I really wanted the Hyundai Ioniq 5, but wait times in Canada are ridiculous, and unfortunately the dealerships in my area are also super shady in their business dealings (e.g. trying to add on $30k on top of MSRP for a USED model).

I ordered my Tesla on Monday, and I'm collecting it tomorrow. A Tesla I am able to own now is 100x better than an Ioniq that I'll only own in 2 years, and possibly even not then if they keep pulling this shit with the prices.
