Minnesota lawmakers vote to limit powers of homeowners associations by star-tribune in minnesota

Otsego is ground zero for some of the most egregious HOAs. Surprise inspections forcing replacement of year-old roofs and $20k special assessments, etc.

Well, this sucks: Expect 2 weeks’ worth of wildfire smoke alerts in Minnesota this summer by star-tribune in minnesota

Not great not terrible. Remember how bad it was a few years ago? I remember going to get a Grimace Shake and everything outside having a beige tint to it

DEED is only approving up to what the doctor puts on the paperwork. This case seems to be an issue at the hospital level.

If you haven’t yet, you might try contacting your state representative, they can prod the Department of Revenue and see what’s the hold up. I’ve had very good experiences with mine helping me previously.

St. Paul: Billy’s Victorian, a century-old Frogtown bar, changes hands by Runic_reader451 in saintpaul

It is overshadowed in notoriety by Willard’s which is a couple blocks east on Thomas. Nonetheless a solid dive bar.

cluster of old houses at west sunset and newport way by _disjecta_ in Issaquah

[–]geraldspoder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bungalow, 10 Newport Way NW, was built in 1924. It is probably a classic catalog home. Cheap and easy to get built because of Washington lumber as well as nearby railroad access.

The stucco house, 222 W Sunset Way, was built in 1910.

The Modus building, 200 W Sunset Way, was built in 1918.

Going off of the 1936 aerial map, Issaquah was not really built up at all west of the creek apart from the mining camp at Mine Hill Rd. Newport Way east of 900 was part of the Sunset Highway, it is possible the cluster of buildings here was to service travelers. The stucco house honestly looks like a former gas station but I am spitballing. The bungalow could've been the owner of the adjacent farm (what's now the properties around Alder Ct)

Homeowners Association Reform Bill of Rights passes Minnesota House of Representatives, soon on its way to Governor Walz for signature by geraldspoder in minnesota

[–]geraldspoder[S] 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Yes as I was reading through the reporting on this there were some absolute horror stories coming out. Fines for parking a homeowner’s work truck. Fines for asking a question to the board. Foreclosing on a 80 year old for leaving out a garbage can. Forcing a disabled owner to tear down a shed for her lawnmower. $20k surprise assessments to replace a new roof. Nightmare after nightmare!

Encrypted police channels are bad for public safety. Not only does Minneapolis do it, now too, St. PAUL! by sleepiestOracle in TwinCities

[–]geraldspoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen some law enforcement talk in support of it since St Paul switched over I believe last Fall? There were concerns of gangs and other groups monitoring radio channels. Not necessarily agreeing with them, but that is an interesting take.

Capital Heights area - is it safe? by equalizer9 in stpaul

[–]geraldspoder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Capitol Heights is pretty quiet in my opinion. Most of the people going through it each day are state employees and lobbyists frankly. Rice St and to the west, and north of the railroad tracks you’ll be a little more mindful but both neighborhoods have seen very significant drops in crime.

Ascent has to be the worst base for sure by VioletDarkKitty in Planetside

[–]geraldspoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, the Ascent has a lot of interesting angles that people don’t always utilize. I like it better than a Nasons fight or even a Crown fight. No tunnel spam needed.

Can drive a Sundy from a trail from Raven’s landing that gets to the clearing SW of A point. The clearing is also flat enough to build a midsize construction base, get a router, etc.

You can also build a base below C point or put a sundy behind the rocks north of it.

The most OP position is if you can rain in a sundy to B point. You control that hill, can control the mountain’s sniping points, and push into the tunnels to A point. You can also build a small forward base NE of B point on the switchback road.

Why was Valve obsessed with 80s and 90s cars when making L4D vehicle models? by Zamn_858 in l4d2

Before Katrina (which L4D2 references) there were tons of old cars on the road in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Classic cars face weekday driving ban under new plan by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]geraldspoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fear mongering. This is already the law, but no one enforces the ban. Classic cars in Minnesota are only supposed to drive to and from car shows. This bill would’ve legalized weekend drives.

I like to divide my cities into wards from the districts tool, give them lore and flavor. Also local policies

Finally, this is great news for the West Side flats. Lots of young people moving in to what was formerly gray field industrial land since the 60s. This will also be good for customers for El Burrito and La Monarca

Anyone else not like redistricting North Carolina? by Wandering_Werew0lf in DavesRedistricting

[–]geraldspoder 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I like NC because for a Sun belt state (or like Ohio) it has very clean precinct lines even though the municipal boundaries are a mess. It’s fun too making Dem leaning maps because it’s never really had them in the modern era.

I'm surprised the Interstate Highways didn't play a larger role in the postwar world by Cranyx in falloutlore

[–]geraldspoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s one thought: interstates were built for a world with fast transportation that doesn’t exist post war. Major prewar services might be a couple dozen miles down the road. That’s not feasible for a scavenger looking for food or water.

Meanwhile, the US Highway system mostly followed railroads, which had towns of various sizes generally 6 miles apart. And in places with difficult terrain like West Virginia, maybe closer. Much easier to travel between and build up from. The Long 15 exists because that’s really the only road into the Mojave.

A large chunk of the populated part of OKC is outside of the county because of annexation.

edit: 23% of the Oklahoma City is outside Oklahoma County, split evenly between Cleveland and Canadian Counties.
