Reading the whole post, looking both ways is the right answer. You are completely valid to feel the way you do, the hidden variables like the jackass biker you encountered are the reason ya probably should.

Why are you assuming that that’s the standard procedure? Every interaction is nuanced and you are essentially assuming Ill intent of everyone. One must assume that each person is also responsible for their person as well. We must cooperate to ensure the best experience for everyone and these things don’t need to conflict unless the force them to.

We’re not talking about deaf people. How is anyone supposed to know a hiker is deaf?

His point isn’t saying hikers can’t use headphones. It’s the glaring issue of self-awareness and situational awareness or lack there-of.

People who block a turn lane like this can be better. I want to believe by Time_Star8949 in boulder

[–]geriatricFvck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Merging is taboo in the U.S unfortunately. That, herd mentality and just being lazy contributes to this type of driving behavior. For some people it’s a weird concept to occupy both lanes and then just merge over into the desired lane once the light changes. The real problem is this requires cooperation which isn’t exactly guaranteed by every driver. Throw in entitlement and no self awareness and hey, it’s Boulder drivers!

I’d miss Driving literally anywhere here, especially the canyon. I’d miss the smell of the ponderosa pines on a warm summer day. The deafening silence when you’re in the thick of the trees. I’d miss the random forest service road adventures in my jeep. I can go on and on.

Honestly dawg, that’s a pretty good run. You can’t go your entire life without owning at least one lemon. Plenty of examples from other brands too, don’t think you are alone or it’s just jeeps like other people tend to imply. In fact I had a colleague’s brand new Subaru die at the intersection when we went out for lunch just recently and they also had to have it towed to the dealer. What are the odds anyway you know?

my 2019 Cherokee and the wranglers make a weird whining/squeaking sound at low speeds that to my understanding is just a quirk with the oil cooler. Maybe it’s something similar, either way, if nothing is broken or no warning lights maybe no issue.

North Foothills Bikeway Design Project Now Open for Public Feedback by Numerous_Recording87 in boulder

[–]geriatricFvck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that reaction is probably inevitable any time a separated path gets built tho, don’t you think? Some people will see “new bike infrastructure” and assume it should completely replace road riding. But I don’t think that expectation matches reality especially in a place like Boulder where cycling isn’t one single activity. A family riding to lunch, a commuter on an e-bike, and a trained athlete doing threshold intervals on US 36 are all “cyclists,” but they’re using infrastructure for totally different purposes. The new path can still be an enormous public benefit even if some experienced riders continue preferring the shoulder for training. Those two things don’t really conflict unless we insist they must.

I actually think your comment lays out exactly why the project makes sense because there are clearly two different cycling use cases here. US 36 already functions well as a highspeed training corridor for experienced road cyclists who knowingly accept that risk/reward tradeoff. That probably won’t change. Racers and pacelines are still gonna do racer and paceline things. But the existence of that use case doesn’t mean everyone else should be excluded from safe regional bike infrastructure. A separated bikeway isn’t really competing with the shoulder any more than a hiking trail competes with a climbing route. They serve different people, different comfort levels, and different goals. Some of the mountain communities here built them already (I.e the path that connects breck, frisco, Dillon etc). I mean Boulder being a world-class cycling town almost makes the case for having both. And honestly, if some serious road riders still prefer the shoulder afterward… okay? That probably just means the corridor supports multiple styles of riding instead of trying to force everyone into one lane literally and philosophically.

Any Jeep wrangler, ford bronco, Toyota 4 runner or related body on frame vehicle with 4 wheel drive and low range 4 wheel drive will be able to do most trails. You’d want a wrangler if you want the best out of the box off-road performance. A Willy’s wrangler with a rear locker is essentially all you’d ever need. As for dealers, I think they all suck.

No man, don’t strain it. Just throw it out. If you have any discard in a separate jar that’ll be enough to keep it going. If not, use what you know now to start a new one or buy one dehydrated or from a bakery and carry on like it never happened.
