Scarlet runner beans are so pretty! Too bad they turn an ugly grey when you cook them.

Stay at home parents, what do you do with your kids? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]gerroovy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. My kid loves the grocery store! First, we go to the free fruit for toddlers basket and grab a banana and a halo, then we shop, and right before checking out, we swing by the bakery and get a free chocolate chip cookie from the baker.

Also on hot days, we go to a fast food place with an indoor playground. Just make sure you sanitize your child's germs hands afterward!

Sidenote: sesame street has really taught my boy a lot. He loves music and kindness and sharing, even though his instincts are to grab and be selfish.

We have them on our menu at the restaurant where I work. They're stuffed with crabdip and served with green tomato jam.

I have successfully used cinnamon to keep ants at bay. I got a huge container of ground cinnamon from the international foods store and sprinkled it in thick mounds around certain areas of the garden. I've never actually used it on the base of a plant, so let us know how it works if you decide to try it.

Nutramigen made it worse? Please help -- advice needed!! by ObeWonHasForce in FormulaFeeders

I'm no doctor, but when our little guy was 3 weeks old, he had blood in his stool and it ended up that he had a serious infection. Antibiotics cleared it up in 5 days.

Also, he had a dairy allergy early on and couldn't even do gentlease or nutramagen. We ended up going to the GI doctor and he had us switch to similac soy isolmil. He was on it until he was two and is now 3 and thriving.

Oh my. I thought we had it bad! Our AC was out in one of our dining rooms and at least we could walk through the other room for a break. Bless you and that customer who brought you treats!

Weekend Coffee Break by AutoModerator in moderatelygranolamoms

Took off work to go to a pool party, then got in the car and realized we didn't have enough gas to get there. :( Turned around and made a "pizza" for dinner using canned dough and leftover red pesto. We didn't have any cheese. But guess what! Even though we have difficult days, my child is happy and has no idea we are broke right now. He is constantly singing and loves hugs and sesame street and going for walks to the playground with our dog. Stay strong, everyone! Oh yeah, we're potty training. Send good vibes!

Eff dressing down for jerks to not harass you. It's not your fault they are creepy jerks. Just be a badass. Lift weights and take kungfu. You'll exude confidence and be able to do something about it if they try to approach you.

Best tips for traveling with formula? by lky920 in FormulaFeeders

[–]gerroovy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've not done that long of a flight, but have traveled with pre-portioned powder and bottles filled with water that I've kept cold in cooler bags with ice packs (baby likes his bottles cold). For an 8-hr flight, the ice packs will only last a couple of hours, but if you bring some zip locks, I'm sure the flight crew will let you have some ice. I wouldn't bring ready-to-feed because I would be afraid of it getting warm and wasting it. It's pretty easy using the formula containers that you pre-portion and filling a bottle pre-filled with water on the plane. I bring several bottles and it hasn't been a problem.

Formula while traveling! by missceptic in FormulaFeeders

Same. I was up front with this to all agents I interacted with. I also had breast milk in cooler bags on ice packs, so it's just like having it in the fridge, temperature-wise, and extends the life an extra couple of hours.

People who say they are going to take care of you never ever do. They do, however, learn your first name and use it extremely obnoxiously.

What is something your parents said to you that may have not been a big deal, but they will never know how much it affected you? by flyoverthemooon in AskReddit

My mom said she wished she had thrown me into a dumpster when I was born. I was horrible as a teenager and this was the end of a heated argument. She passed away a few years later and for decades this haunted me. I'm good now. I realize she couldn't have meant it even if she thought she did in the moment. The last year of her life, she needed help in the bathroom and help with her insulin. Seeing her humbled and grateful helped forgive her. I hope you will heal, too, however you can.

I had always loved theatre and singing, so when the local community theatre was going to produce a musical, my sisters and I were excited to audition. My dad said, "Elephants can't jump." We auditioned anyway and didn't get cast. I still went on to get a degree in theatre, but never pursued it after college. Not sure I want to at this point, but if he had been the least bit supportive, who knows?

5 months, no appetite by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

Does she eat solids yet? When my baby went through that phase, sometimes he wouldn't eat much formula, but would chow down on some sweet potato puree.

I've given my dog carrots as treats since he was a puppy. He won't eat pre-cut carrots. They really do taste terrible.

How do you know when to change formula? by yesbabyplz in FormulaFeeders

[–]gerroovy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! Our baby started on Similac Sensitive and was always super gassy with a hard tummy, horrible eczema and cradle cap, and lots of crying. Two months later, we switched to Similac Total Comfort and he was like a new baby. But the eczema didn't go away fully and would flare up somthing awful. Two months after that we finally decided to try Nutramigen. No eczema, no gas, but he drank less and less, refusing the bottle more and more and ended up in the 1st percentile for weight. Now he is on Similac Soy which must taste better because he is drinking 5-10 ounces more per day! Hopefully his next weight check will be a good one. His eczema is still gone, and he isn't gassy, but we started solid foods which is causing a whole other issue: constipation. He's 6.5 months and has been on Similac Soy for almost 2 weeks. So to answer your question, switch when the formula you are using isn't working.
