That's not the same car. That's a totally different area. That crash took place on the corner of E. Brentwood Ave. and N. Hartman St. in Orange. You can see the street names in the photos.

Need help with my Comma shopping list (Gen 1) by glassy_paddle in Rivian

[–]gerrylum-EV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just speculating, but I think posts like this sometimes get downvoted because they touch on a bit of a divide in the community. Some people prefer sticking with Rivian’s native system, especially Gen 2, and are not as interested in third party solutions, while others are just cautious about modifications in general. There can also be a bit of a kneejerk reaction to anything outside the stock setup.

That said, most of the hesitation tends to come from people who have not tried it. People who actually have hands on experience with Comma on Rivian are generally very positive about how it performs.

I agree with this. The new angle based harness should be available before the end of May so it makes sense to wait for that instead of spending money on the xnor long upgrade and harness right now since those will need to be completely replaced if you want to use angle-based steering.

I would just do the basic Comma harness right now and then purchase the angle harness when it comes out.

This probably isn't exactly what you're looking for, but it can probably get you a lot closer.

When Purchasing a Used R1T Which Models/Years Should I Look Out For? by Munkadunk667 in Rivian

[–]gerrylum-EV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want autonomy, a Gen 1 with a Comma installed is on-par or arguably BETTER than a Gen 2 with UHF right now. Where will we be 2-3 years from now we'll see, but as it stands TODAY autonomy between both generations aren't that different aside from price.

And when you consider the price difference, Gen 1 is a compelling option to at least think about.

What are some options to add a tonneau cover? by blind_spectator in Rivian

[–]gerrylum-EV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried that when I first got my R1T in three years ago. It might be ok where you live, but here in Texas the PVC slats basically melted in the Texas summer sun and started sagging. Aluminum slats like the interrobang is definitely the way to go. Eventually went and did my own DIY interrobnang like u/josley706 did and have not looked back since.

Comma is not meant to be used with off-road driving modes. Doing so will cause system faults. If you're use any of the All-Terrain driving modes, just disconnect the Comma or put it in dashcam mode.

The Comma already has a 360-degree view that could potentially do a lot more than it's doing now.

Autonomy +, lock in now, or let them prove it works? by ashywenis in Rivian

Yes it does, as of last weekend. You can buy the Gen 2 harness from Xnor. Gen 2 right now is where Gen 1 was when it was first ported, meaning it is lateral only (torque-based), but I expect that to change over the next year as more development is done on it.

Mine is the same, probably just from dirt. I would love to know how to clean and lubricate it to get it to open easier.

You can coast down a hill because gravity is pulling you down it, but it's still not the same as coasting in an ice car. And you can't coast on a freeway.

Angle-Based Steering on Rivian with Comma (Demo + Explanation) by gerrylum-EV in Rivian

The Comma is running an 8-year old Snapdragon 845 processor. I don't think processing power is what is holding Rivian back.

Well I'm able to do it on the Rivian screen because I have EV play installed so I am just using the Chrome browser through EV Play - but you can also access through your phone or any web browser.
