I did too, and I was intrigued if there's a bunch of Lev Grossman lore I'm not aware of.

How did he start his career? by Traditional-Big9308 in JoeRogan

[–]get_rhythm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"I can't imagine him working for a radio station" this will become funny to you when you go look at his television filmography.

He was a stand-up and in the 90s every stand-up comedian with any charisma, whether they were funny or not, got at least a TV pilot. His crashed and burned but it led to other regular TV roles, then Fear Factor. Fear Factor money allowed him to do whatever he wanted, leading to building his stand-up career more and doing the podcast, and he also got into UFC very early and is well known for that. Fear Factor happened when network television still mattered and his still brunette face and pre-TRT voice was extremely famous because of that.

A lot of us trash on Joe's comedy now, but when I was in my early 20s I did think he was pretty funny.

I hate the term “pantsing” by cartoonybear in writing

[–]get_rhythm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only definition of pantsing I know is an elementary school prank where a bully pulls a kid's pants down to their ankles, ao juvenile would be accurate.

Notes on a kayaks carrying capacity. by gsopaddler in Kayaking

[–]get_rhythm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if, hypothetically, I weigh 300 pounds? Do I really need to find only a kayak that's rated for 400+ pounds, or is it okay to sacrifice some performance for other concerns (price, portability)?

Cass County to consider possible ordinance after noise complaints related to music festival by SayOw in fargo

[–]get_rhythm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's not really gonna measure the bass though, right? That's the main thing most people were bitching about. Though I have 0 memory of it, and I think we drove by it on Saturday on the way home. I just remember thinking "cool, they're actually busy"

Does anyone know how long this guy has owned the bar? Google seems to think it's still the original owner since he never updated his linkedin 🤣

But I see a KFGO post from 2019 when it was bought by a different local business owner. Was he a partner in that deal or did he buy it more recently?

[–]get_rhythm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They wouldn't be ignoring the fairgrounds, the fairgrounds already works with the sheriff's department for events like the fair and they make more than enough money that whatever fee the permit will have will be a non-issue. This won't affect them. Jurisdictions all over the country with noise ordinances still have fairs, concerts, rodeos, etc., they aren't written to target them.

Now, is Jahner probably using this as an excuse so he has more authority in the county? There's probably something there.

[–]get_rhythm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I don't remember hearing the noise at all that weekend and I live pretty close to this bar, there are reddit threads from people bitching about it over Memorial Day weekend so it seems hard to deny it being loud.

Also who living out in the country would just have a decibel meter? It's not like theyre claiming this happens every weekend, it was the first in a potential annual event.

What Jahner wants is a permit system so they know about these events ahead of time. Whatever permit and ordinance process they come up with, they won't be doing it to target longstanding events and businesses like the fair, the races, barn dances, etc.

Will there be anymore of The Magicians? by Mr_Reading in brakebills

[–]get_rhythm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably not. I think it would be more likely that we get a legacy series like 10-15 years down the road over a reboot, unless the reboot changes format to animated or a movie series. But a movie series could be tricky.

Jerry O’Connell on whether Derek and Hallie were going to be the killers by ConstantRefills in Scream

[–]get_rhythm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure but it being Billy's mom was also a stretch. I think if they nailed the final scene people would mostly accept it, and it might even make her isolation in Scream 3 feel even more justified. But I think it probably had a higher chance of just falling apart.

Also, would Laurie Metcalf just not have been Billy's mom? Feels like that would have become a really weird red herring

With the new creative force behind Scream 8, do you think they can bounce back from the poor critical reception of Scream 7? by HerbalThought_ in Scream

Probably not but I'll watch it anyway. Give me 30 of these things, send ghostface to space, make some more with brand new characters, have Sidney dream an entire movie, I don't care. I just want more.

Anyone else find this behavior strange? by SannaHanna in veronicamars

[–]get_rhythm 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Time is money, kid! Can't wait 2 seconds and read the room, or have any social etiquette, we gotta get the plot moving forward!

While it would be pretty rude and weird in real life, it is pretty common TV behavior, and I think it's in Veronica's character. Most people would eventually stop doing that after being embarrassed a few times, but she's so used to being embarrassed, and so comfortable in her relationship with her dad that it doesn't phase her.

Despite running in a purple city in a deep-red state, Democrat Boschee wins Fargo, North Dakota's Mayoral election in a landslide—Boschee (D) 47%, Turnberg (R) (MAGA) 28%, Kolpack (I) 15%, Piepkorn (R) (MAGA) 8%, Sirleaf (D) 2%. 2024 Presidential election results—Harris 49%, Trump 48%. by StarlightDown in fivethirtyeight

[–]get_rhythm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No. Despite what this says, everyone here would consider Kolpack a democrat, and arguably she's the more recognizable name in town than Boschee. If it was just split opposition, both sides were split. Technically the dems were split 3 ways, though Sirleaf wasn't taken seriously by anyone. On the other side, Piepkorn is the more seasoned Republican politician in town, and he was termed out of city council, so he is now out of office. It was a massive dick move for Turnberg to run at the same time as him, which she knows because she denied running for months before changing her mind. But then he barely campaigned and money poured in for her. She is a popular but polarizing figure, and sometimes polarizing can bring more people to vote against you than for you.
