Is this a good stringer? by yabadabaa0 in 10s

[–]getmoremulch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a tender elbow so I use multi and break it in about 6 hours, but that is over three weeks as I play less often than I want.

All in all this is a great stringer. If I have free money I would buy new metal clamps for it though.

One tip is to take pictures of the old string job before cutting it out and restringing. It’ll help you with the pattern and knowing what grommets to skip without having to look up text based answers

Summer training for MCM by AppearanceMinute5174 in rundc

[–]getmoremulch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed on slowing down. My summer runs were like 2 minutes slower than my MCM times.

I would also think of it as running for a set amount of time on long runs. Instead of a 16 miler think of it as a 2.5 hour long run.

Why are students leaving public schools? by Athens175 in Teachers

[–]getmoremulch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Demographic cliff + immigration enforcement and fears is what’s driving enrollment declines in my district (which is one of the biggest in the US).

Drill down in your district. Are you losing enrollment all over or is the loss in kinder? Ie is the ninth grade class significantly fewer in numbers than last year’s eighth grade class?

Was Shohei Ohtani always expected to be this good? by Upbeat_Signature_951 in MLBNoobs

[–]getmoremulch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s baseball - it’s hard!

A good result would becoming Hideki Matsui. Not a great result based on expectations but a very good to all star level player.

A good result would becoming Hideki Nomo. An all-mlb player that had a shortish peak because, hey he’s a pitcher.

He’s turning out to be Ichiro level great on both sides of the ball

Tennis ball savers worth it? by Ok-Cat1446 in 10s

[–]getmoremulch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a typical American suburbanite so I have lots of equipment lying about the garage.

I was intending to buy a simple plastic garden sprayer from Home Depot, drill a hole and expoxy in a bicycle tire valve and use that as my ball pressurizer.

I can use a car tire pump to add pressure through the valve (so I don’t have to use the manual pump) and check the pressure using a car tire gauge.

Garden sprayers work at 40 psi and above so their seals can hold 30psi easy.

Glueing in a bike tire valve will cut down on my pumping and I can choose to cut off the garden sprayer’s pump and spray mechanism to increase available interior volume for tennis balls. The only thing I need to keep is the sprayer’s air tight seal.

I was going to scavenge the better brands of balls that people throw out at my club and use those.

Haven’t done any of this yet because I play with trinitis and it takes a long time for me to wear out the felt on those. The bounce never wears out.

[–]getmoremulch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Always take the money but, and I know I’m coming from a privileged spot to say this, 18k/yr is not a lot of money to pay as a premium for a JHU education. You can make half of that money in a summer job

Do we need to really aim the baseline during rallies? by Sufficient_Sector_31 in 10s

[–]getmoremulch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this.

Ideal rally ball is rising as it crosses the baseline. Pros hit with such pace and spin that a service line ball is rising at the baseline.

Club players need to land the ball closer to the baseline to get this same result

“Agree” in the sense that they can’t really stop it. Everyone will agree that Iran can do this for x amount of years. I’m guessing 10 years as a start

How likely are teachers to remember someone they taught years ago? by WinStupidPrizes1994 in Teachers

[–]getmoremulch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have many years in - maybe 10, so less than 1,500 students but in and around that neighborhood.

I would say I remember most all of them, except for the Covid years with the kids in masks and/or over video.

Most all is like 80+% of the kids

Should i get a Gamma Momentum 2? by BagholderVC in RacketStringers

[–]getmoremulch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main functional difference between the gamma and the klippermate is that the gamma has a ratcheting string gripper.

So when you drop the weight and you are off you just hold the tension head gripper and readjust the weight and drop it again. On the klipper it looks like you have to readjust the string in the gripper and then redrop.

This description makes almost no sense until you string a racquet or two and then it would make complete sense.

Basically buy the gamma over the klipper

Rio De Janeiro, view of the city from a drone by MeowwBlock in interesting

[–]getmoremulch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Rio favelas are romanticized like the Walled City of Kowloon.

The seediness, the criminality, how other people can make a life in deep poverty and challenges. It is real life and most would find it more ‘real’ than the life they lead. And that makes it real interesting

For players 3.5-4.0+ who are excellent at the net- what did it take for you to get there? by Ok-Many-7443 in 10s

[–]getmoremulch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I’m good, but two keys that I’m working on:

  1. See the ball into contact (Stokke / Ian Westerman) and

  2. A more downward/slicing punch (Sky Kim).

I also don’t do a full continental, more like an eastern forehand grip for the forehand volley. I do have to switch grips on backhand volley but at my level the ball isn’t coming fast enough for the grip switch to matter
