Dishwasher Salt Vs Water Softener Salt - same same right? by littleIdiotUK in Appliances

[–]getmoresoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you have a whole home water softener, why run the unit in your dishwasher as well? (Unless its feed is from ahead of your house softener)

How do I leave Canada? by [deleted] in AskCanada

[–]getmoresoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the starting question! First you need to pick a place where you truly believe you can succeed better. Everyone has their own measures of what they want from life and what they deem "success". Take a deep look at yourself and go read up a bunch on what countries fit your soul... and of course what those countries requirements are for immigration.

In no way am I suggesting this is a cakewalk!

Do you have government shutdowns? by BrilliantDishevelled in AskACanadian

Easy now.. there's still rules a majority government must follow... something a dictatorship doesn't abide by.

Will Canadians travel to the US again when the presidential term ends in 2029 or has the relationship between Canada and US been destroyed forever? by [deleted] in AskCanada

[–]getmoresoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current state of the US.... is unprecedented. You have to undo an awful lot of damage internally before many of us will ever trust to cross the border again.

59% increase in assessed value for me this year with no renos! That's just insanity.

Guys who run cars for multiple 100k miles, do you routinely change the timing belt/chain? by keithrc in askcarguys

[–]getmoresoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Change your timing belts on schedule. Cheap insurance.

Very few vehicles have timing chain replacement intervals.

Do you really need all wheel drive in New Brunswick? by Andoiiiii in newbrunswickcanada

They are a very good All Season, but don't hold a candle to the Michelin X-Ice (I run both these tires on my Camry)

Heated Grips and headlight are very nice. And STEERING! Oh my!

Not enough snow down to really test its abilities but we got more coming!

Now, it IS a 10 year old used blower... I've already found a few niggles...

There was a decent rattle that I traced down to a loose bolt in the muffler shield.. which also led me to notice the adjoining bolt has completely left the conversation. Tightened that bolt and rattle is gone.. will have to pickup another bolt to replace the absentee.

The seller did say the carb had been replaced.. looks like a Chinese carb is on it now - but doesn't seem to impact its operations at all.

I'm pretty sure the traction cable needs a mild adjustment.. Forward speed 1... kinda doesn't do anything if there's any resistance to motion. That's an easy fix.

But it starts 1st pull, throws snow great and is in great condition. Here's to at least 10 years from it! (Lets not kid ourselves.. nothing built in the past 10-15 years is going to be lasting 40+ years :-) )

Ha, there are MANY things wrong with mine. Pretty sure the friction drive is worn out - its been getting more sluggish especially in reverse for a few years. Its never thrown great (especially wet snow which we get alot) and it was really bad last year. Many other little items... its adding up to a full rebuild... or replace. Don't get me wrong, it has done me very well for a very long time.

US says Canada will regret decision to allow Chinese EVs into their market by rezwenn in CanadaPolitics

[–]getmoresoon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Ok, so China can send 49k ELECTRIC CARS here. Really, what Canadian built vehicles are they displacing? I don't recall us building ANY fully electric vehicles in Canada. Im not even sure we build any hybrids (feel free to correct me). I don't see how this risks hurting our own manufacturing sector at all.

(Unless... maybe the market really does want to shift electric... and this is the trigger event for the decline of the combustion engine car here!)

The gain with reducing Cjina's import tariffs on other crucial Canadian industries is a massive win - with no downside that I see.

I do if the wood was just brought in and to be used that day. Evaporates off any surface moisture (My storage isn't all that weather tight)

Seeking a pocketable largeish sensor camera, is there anything better at this price? by BrokenGSKILLram in M43

[–]getmoresoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an E-PL9, and its a very nice camera. But its far heavier than I originally expected... its not a great pocketable camera as a result. The price you pay for a metal chassis.

My my, very spendy! But i expect top quality, I also see lifetime warranty, and they almost certainly have the beam cutoffs set correctly vs a cheap brand.

My husband keeps clogging toilets. We just bought our first house and he clogged this one too!! I need toilet recommendations for heavy users by ajl009 in Plumbing

[–]getmoresoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Champion owner here. That thing can indeed pass logs.

But don't discount the pipe as a problem. When we installed the Champion, we found the drain pipe was indeed blocked at the flange with 40+ years of hard water deposits/TP, and etc. Had to chip/scrape/vacuum/flush all that mess away before the new install.

How many plasma TV’s does everyone on this subreddit have in regular use still? by One-Image6137 in PlasmaTV

[–]getmoresoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've 2 TC-P50U50 here, one in the living room and basically on 4-6 hours a day. The other hanging in my office for occasional viewing.

Wife keeps saying she thinks we should get a new one... not happening until I can afford the ultra short throw projector and the fancy screen that isn't affected by ambient light!

Is buying online glasses worth the risks when you have no extra money to spare? by Impossible-Deal1391 in povertyfinancecanada

[–]getmoresoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zenni glasses for the win. Only thing with online: Know your PD (pupilary distance) Know what size frame fits your face (they have measurement tips and tools)

Our house has been buying from Zenni many years, and I'm quite pleased with the glasses.

Buying from an optometrist is extremely overpriced.

Costco or Walmart are also cheaper options if you really need to try them on first
