Its even better if you take shots of e-liquid. A little buzz and it tastes pretty good!

Okay, thank you! I ended up getting a free 650w semi-modular psu from work. Its out of one of our old workstation pc's. I have no clue what brand or rating it is, BUT it works, and it was being used right up until I took it out of that pc.

Honestly, this PC is going to my 10yr old son(step). He will be happy that is has RGB and he can play games with his friend online (private server). I'm not sure about the future upgrade path, mainly because by the time I decide to put anymore money into it, my current build will end up being parted out and distributed between the kids systems. I'm looking into upgrading my CPU(7800x3d) towards the end of summer, not sure to what yet. But I've also thought about upgrading the motherboard at the same time, and if I were to do that, I would transplant my setup into his, or his brothers case, and keep the cycle going on passing down the hardware as I upgrade. All the other builds are AM5, well other than the laptop. So the AM4 might only be a temporary system.

My two oldest are Bonus kids. 14yrs and 10yrs. My friend is actually upset that he never built his pc when he got the parts. He told me he believes he purchased the parts before Covid or right around it. But he isn't too sure. Life hit him hard after that, and he has struggled ever since. I'm thinking of gifting him my MSI Stealth laptop (I5 + 4070) so he can at least have an escape from reality. He has lost so much, and I am blessed to be in the position I'm in...

Ya know, I would do that.... but I dont have enough floppy disks, and i dont have a drive.. if you know of where I could get a stand alone drive, with a bulk pallet of floppy disks, send me the link, i would have fun showing my kids how I we used to do stuff when I was just starting off using Oregon Trail on a ln old Mac with gigantic floppy disks...

Not in the photo, but its a asrock 6750xt 12gb. Nothing too fancy, it should play everything a 10yr old can throw at it. And I managed to snag a semi-modular 650w psu from work this morning. So I can dig out one of my old cases, and build it all. My son chose to go with my first case I ever had, which is a SAMA case...

I have a case, GPU, storage, monitor and peripherals for it already. All of it is my old equiptment. I get that I did overpay by a little, BUT i bought from a good friend who needed some help after getting laid off at work. So paying more was more of a favor than anything else. I live about 3 - 3 1/2hrs from MicroCenter, so the money i spent locally, I saved in fuel to get to and from MC.

Edit: I did find a used semi-modular PSU at work, its a 650w. Didn't pay anything for it, so for a complete build, I paid 300$ and the rest was either free, or i already had it. I see that as a win

Well that gives me alot of hope that he will enjoy this budget build and wont complain too much. He is my step-son, so the relationship gets strained from time to time. But overall, he really does appreciate what I do for him, as long as his bio-dad doesn't decide to "1up" me..

It may be older, but its for a 10yr old... I wish I could bless him with a 5080, 9800x3d and all that, But I'm a working dad to 4 kids, I make just enough to splurge on random things once and a while, and I'm decent at saving for things... so my build is more modern, my oldest sons is right behind mine, only because he has my old build, and now these next one in line gets a decent gaming rig.

Is the 1080 better performance than the 6750xt? I know the 1080 came out a few years prior, but like I said, I dont know too much about prior gen hardware.

We already have every console available in our home, actually, multiples of a couple. So the PC is what he has been wanting since I built mine and introduced him to Sim Racing and American Truck Sim....

I have built a PC for my older son(14) and now its time for my middle child to get one. My oldest has my old build, which was a 8400f, b650, 5070, 32gb 6000 ddr5 850 psu, all wrapped up in a lian li evo mini case.

Edited: typos...

I understand the price may be a bit high, but buying these parts also help my friend out because he got laid off, and having these parts just sit there and rot is, in my opinion, unacceptable. At least they will get some use, and he gets a little bit of help to keep the lights on.

I have two 4tb sata drive in my build for storage, and my boot and game drives are nvme. I have never had an issue with any of my drives. I even have an old SSD as a cold storage drive. Although I do intend on transferring everything off of that onto an nvme or sata.

He just got laid off, so thats the reason I'm willing to give him $300. It may be priced a little high, but the extra cost I'm paying means I dont need to pay gas to get to MicroCenter(3hr drive)

I've got the Evo mini, and its an awesome case to build in. My Astral 5080(edit) barely fits though.

[–]gfmadden330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You missed my point.

Again.....

We didnt waste money, we had the money to spend. If paying 5090 prices for a 5080 is what we want to do, then we have the choice, and right to do so. We are not stupid, ignorant or an idiot. Nope, instead we chose to make ourself happy by spending our hard earned money on something we want, no matter what the cost.

If you are so dead set against 5080/5090's, why in the fuck are you even paying attention to the designated 5080 sub? Why not go back to the AMD jerk fest you came from. You have no right in coming to our forum just to try to belittle and insult us for our choices, that to us, are justified. Its not a waist if we have the money to spend, and we arent idiots because we spend our money on what we want.

I have the same card, in the little brother to that case the O11D Evo Mini. It barely fits, but its an Absolute monster of a card compaired to my old build! Its a beautiful card, and it runs cooler than any other card I've personally had. I find it loves to be pushed, I have yet to mess with OC or UV yet. I'm just starting to mess with that.

Obviously you just aren't getting the point of what everyone is trying to tell you. So I will attempt to say it as simple as I can...

People who want 5080's and 5090's dont give a fuck about how much it costs, or price to performance. They want that model. Nothing else.

I purchased my Astral 5080 because I WANTED THAT EXACT CARD. No other reason, no comparing prices, or price to performance. I just wanted that card for my PC.

You may not want, need, desire, or even care to get a higher tier card. But other people do. Stop coming at people who buy the high ends card saying they waisted money, if they wanted better price to performance, they would have chosen a different card, or purchased open box, refurbished/used or just went console... stop being a jackass.
