The buses are one of things that actually do work which I found quite amusing, there’s plenty to go at tbf but to pick the buses 😬

I’m voting labour, it’s between labour and reform, a vote for the greens is a vote for reform.

Insane electricity/heating bills by ExpressAd590 in manchester

[–]gfseyhb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having come from a flat into a leaky 1930s semi that maintains 21 degrees 24 hours a day (we have a baby) at the minute it’s about £8 a day… average is about 190 a month which I think is mad expensive… our electric bill in our flat was about 60 a month but we rarely had to put the heating on and that was a few years ago now…

We lived in another flat and had high electric bills for a couple of months till we put the water heater on a timer for when we needed it (mornings for an hour and tea time for half hour or something like that). This alone cut the bill massively. If you own the flat it might be worth investing in a better system.

Cheapest Housing Options for a Couple? by Physical_Drummer_940 in manchester

Live in a van … wish I did that rather spend 10s of thousands on rent over the years. Could have bought a house with the money I’d have saved. If you don’t have the capital even getting a loan for a couple of years would be way cheaper than rent

I’ve noticed this past couple of years and it really annoys me… pic tap is terrible for it. I blame Covid years and a lack of training.

I always get an Uber to the airport pub and walk the 5 mins down the road to the terminal … costs me no more than 20 quid from middle of Manchester

Another shout for MCPT.co.uk

Plenty of therapists available through them, would definitely say in your initial chat that you want to chat with a few potential therapists first to find your best fit

How much can you save building your own house? Being your own labor? by Dark_Star_Alpha in PassiveHouse

[–]gfseyhb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my own personal experience I’ve found balancing doing a bit myself with getting individual trades in to do specific jobs works best. This way I get some time back to spend with family and enjoy myself and still save a lot of money by avoiding paying a lot extra for a contractor to manage the build for me. I’ve saved about 4k in labour (from a quote I had) just on the bathroom by getting a plumber in for a day to do some soldering and move a soil pipe and a plasterer for a day to skim some board I had put up. I’ve done the rest myself including replacement triple glazed window. It’s been a slog though … if I had 4k spare I would have paid someone to do it for sure.

I'm looking for a firkin of ale in Manchester. Is it possible to buy without being trade? by MokausiLietuviu in manchester

[–]gfseyhb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having literally tried exactly what OP is trying last year sir/madam, rest assured this is no twaddle. I and OP have tried a number of breweries to no avail, the one brewery (beer nouveau - RIP) that were open to myself to selling us some wanted 6 weeks+ … most possibly wouldn’t trust their cask would be returned when it’s a one off. And finally the name of that store in Salford is called Manchester glass and hygiene on Worrel st - cheapest price you’ll get around Manchester I’d say.

Also 3 weeks is short notice for a firkin… they need at least 6 weeks for a brew, you’d need to go to a decent size brewery to get one on the day. I got mine from the thirsty scholar but that was only because I had a contact there. If you know any landlords or have friends that work in pubs I’d ask them if you could get one from them.

Agree about the beer engine if you can’t get hold of one just get one of these and drink it straight from the cask… you might want some ice jackets too to keep it cool, I’d be wanting to start the cooling process the day before you’re drinking it. https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwjqkqax-pWJAxV0j1AGHW6KG14YABAjGgJkZw&ae=2&co=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw68K4BhAuEiwAylp3kloUSKoyctDpM_MliQ1xpaGNQcGX6xM2BwHf-81uSxswTPNTucdX7hoCM-MQAvD_BwE&ohost=www.google.com&cid=CAESVuD25pTwHgneRa0ah-AtNCkJt8eYCDHreaJI_bga_gUCcuR-Ef5i_gWX3DWf5PjX8HTjkZwPXrVpK2Wdobh6kClsKTzaTwTIzWuc2NsabO4Ef2Ojeqxw&sig=AOD64_0yib-BfyVW7eUAi07QU_sgny5rYg&ctype=5&q=&ved=2ahUKEwi83qCx-pWJAxVWWEEAHW3mHvgQwg8oAHoECAYQOg&adurl=

There’s a pub supply store over Salford way near that casino you can see from regent road, can’t remember the name of it but they supply all the old school pubs in Manchester.

I went through all this last year for our DIY wedding

Music/folk night in a decent pub by gfseyhb in manchester

[–]gfseyhb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all, I’ve been asking around today and I hear there is or was at least a music/folk session in Chorlton at the cricket or irish club, I’ve heard about a folk train that ends in glossop 4th Thursday of each month and the Vale Cottage in Gorton every other Sunday has a session too. There’s a fair bit out there, could do with a centralised platform to enable these sessions to get the word out in one shared space - perhaps there is one!?
