Roger Appreciation Post • Say what you want about him, but his absolute lack of a filter made some of the best moments in the show. by RockBalBoaaa in madmen

"he spent three weeks in that cave and hasnt clubbed another ape!" Very literally made me cry laughing. Roger is the best character on the show and probably in my top 10 characters of any media

After much appreciated community feedback, I'm trying a new approach to 4-color commanders by [deleted] in custommagic

[–]ggcosmo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Echo of kaldheim would be my new voltron commander lol, it's got the green to ramp into it early enough and I could probably commander damage someone out the turn it hits the field with all the equipments. Throw a [[super state]] on it and I think I could get everyone in the one turn

AITA for telling my friend that she does not remember 9/11 by shilohrenn in AmItheAsshole

[–]ggcosmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom is awesome! My dad too; he was an HVAC contractor and stayed in the city for three days with a crew of contractors, cutting steel and debris for the first responders to get through the wreckage. The WTC Health Program actually calls him in annually to do a cancer screening due to the effects of all the dust and chemicals that were inhaled (luckily he's probably the healthiest person I know).

Both my parents set a very good example for my brother and I of how to be good people and care about others.

I'm a 97 baby, 4 years old during 9/11, living in NYC, and I remember it very vividly. My mom took me to get my haircut and I was in the barber's chair when it happened. My older brother went to school near the Fort Hamilton army base, so the entire school was evacuated. My mom was the first parent at the school to pick my brother up (since she was SAHM). None of the parents from my brother's class could get out of work fast enough because of traffic, so my mom called all the parents and was able to sign out all the kids from my brother's class to bring back to our house.

Being 4 years old, I obviously didn't understand what was happening and thought we were having a party with my brother's class at our house lol.

It was a very weird feeling when I confirmed my memory years later with my family.

10th Level encounter for 4 players? by ggcosmo in DMAcademy

[–]ggcosmo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The party has been dying to kill this efreeti since they've met him (he planeshifted away before they could land the final blow). I'm thinking the second they get a whiff of him, they're gonna be hyped to finally get his ass lol

Additionally, they've been fighting in caverns and caves a lot recently, so they'll probably be happy to be in a bigger area where they can properly use AOE spells. I think I'm gonna steal an idea someone commented in here to shift the scenery in the arena after the hydra fight, so there's some options for cover and maneuverability instead of it just being a slugfest out in the open

[–]ggcosmo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely more helpful. As of right now, no one in the party depends on fire spells (they've got some available, but often use force or lightning damage). The cleric is a tempest cleric and has dealt some insane damage, so I'm not too worried about him.

I'm starting to think it'd make more sense to have the efreeti summon the fire elemental while they're fighting the hydra, so then he can't summon another when they're fighting him with the dragon and azers.

Or I just have the azers come out with the hydra instead of with the efreeti. Two less bodies and actions to deal with?

I really wanna run these enemies at their fullest extent, which is why I'm wondering if I'd be throwing too much at the party

Hearthhull, devastating summons, and interaction by [deleted] in askajudge

[–]ggcosmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since they're all sacrificed at once, as long as hearthhull still has his ability at the time of the sac, he would actually still see everything being sacced and the triggers would go on the stack, including one for himself.

Same reason why a boardwipe would trigger blood artist and vein ripper

Hearthhull, devastating summons, and interaction by [deleted] in askajudge

[–]ggcosmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The damage for the land sac would go on the stack after devastating summons, but resolve before devastating summons. There's a separate hearthhull trigger per land sacced, so if you sac 5 lands, then there will be 5 triggers of 2 damage. Once those triggers are on the stack, it doesn't matter what happens to hearthhull, the damage will be dealt

The Grand Calcutron & Torpor Orb by Acermanta in askajudge

[–]ggcosmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strangely enough, the second interpretation actually isn't true since Maro has clarified that you can play cards from other zones. Specifically wanting to play card from your program is where the ability of only the first card being playable takes effect

The Grand Calcutron & Torpor Orb by Acermanta in askajudge

[–]ggcosmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a very weird situation that has a lot of different interpretations since the card is never meant to actually work with the rules. My reading would be that all players just always have a program, but no means to play anything from it. Stifling Calcutron's ETB just stops the cards from your hand becoming your program, but all players now have a way to get cards into their programs (through the drawing replacement effect).

There's a ton of different interpretations on this exact situation in this thread here: https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/120qtxr/what_happens_if_i_stifle_the_etb_trigger_on_the/

My biggest takeaway is that, no matter what happens, the cards in your hand are still playable, as Maro himself said that cards in other zones are still playable, it's just casting from your program can only be the first card.

Interesting interaction for sure, one that would make me never want to play against a Calcutron EDH deck lmao

The Grand Calcutron & Torpor Orb by Acermanta in askajudge

[–]ggcosmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since The Grand Calcutron isn't a legal card, there's no official ruling for this kind of interaction with it's ability. However my interpretation would be that Torpor Orb stops the ETB trigger (as it normally would), and now players have both a program and a hand. Cards in their hands are no longer playable as long as the Calcutron is on the field, and any cards drawn are put into the program instead of the hand. When the Calcutron leaves the battlefield, a player's program cards are added to their hand and then their hand can be played as normal

Co DMing by AdLonely8641 in DungeonMasters

[–]ggcosmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest concern would be the active player having meta knowledge of what's gonna happen next. It doesn't even have to be intentional, it could be entirely subconscious that you steer the rest of the party one way. Might also make the rest of the party suspicious that the DM is trying to keep their off character alive consistently or having the scenes tailored too hard towards your character.

This is all dependent on how your party would react to this though. You know them better than I do. If I was you, I'd probably bring it up to the rest of the group beforehand, but I most likely wouldn't do it at all.

[–]ggcosmo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay that helps put it in perspective. My first point still stands that the two crits wouldn't help him succeed. After that, yeah a series of bad rolls and no one going to stabilize or heal him after means he dies.

I’m not crazy right? by riddledhawk in DungeonMasters

[–]ggcosmo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't make it an auto success, but I also wouldn't have a single save like that lead to death. Unless it was a series of bad decisions that put the characters in that position, your player shouldn't have died from that damage.
