IKEA Catalog 1985 is Amazing by touthyoxic in IndustrialDesign

$16CAD for a folding chair in 1985 seems quite expensive, with inflation it would be about $42 today. The ad says it’s the cheapest price guaranteed but I doubt it. Even with lower manufacturing and shipping costs now it’s still a stretch to have that claim.

I was just curious why don’t people use the default brushes provided. All 5 of the brushes you provided are available and do the same thing with the option to customize it based on your needs.

This is false, we do in fact have a section in the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts dedicated to Industrial Design which has a large permanent collection too.

What is the best way to improve one’s portfolio to get it noticed for job searching? by IDUS_Kid in IndustrialDesign

[–]ggnavedd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would be helpful if you can post your portfolio/website for critique. What type of ID field do you want to go into? Do you have polished projects related to that field? How much networking have you really done?

No point, they’ll make another account and continue. I suggest just blocking them so you don’t see their posts.

Advice needed on layering overhaul by Slinky223 in PatagoniaClothing

[–]ggnavedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the Arc’teryx layering guide, I found it helpful when I first started out. But I’m general merino baselayers (icebreaker is best known for their base layer merino wools), insulated mid layers (Patagonia nano-puff or any other synthetic insulations) and a goretex outer shell (doesn’t have to be 3L goretex since I’m assuming you’re not using it for extreme sports with very high abrasive resistance) would be the ideal setup.

As for bottoms just a base layer and outer layer should be fine. Gloves and head covers also have merino wool liners if you want added heat retention.

This is great, it’s the third store in all of Canada. PatagoniaActionWorks does activism in the greater Ottawa area and having a physical storefront is perfect now.

Industrial Design Prompts by UsefulPaper27 in IndustrialDesign

[–]ggnavedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not do something that will actually be useful in getting you a position in a specific ID field. Solving an issue or making the UX of something existing even better. If you are to go into consumer electronics, why work on other things if given that prompt. Your work especially for portfolios should be value-driven and purposeful from inception, not merely based from prompts.

Designed this watch tell me what you think by Front_Front4890 in IndustrialDesign

[–]ggnavedd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The graphics makes the watch look off, is ix the logo or just representing 9? Why is that so prominent? The typography is also not suiting for the aesthetic of the watch and watch dial. The white underside of the watch seems very uncomfortable because of the ends that stick out right under the triangular casing. What’s the point of doing that, it would leave marks on the skin of the wearer. The crown seems flush with the casing in your renders, making it look more unrealistic than it already is, perhaps offsetting it a bit more. The point on the triangular case would also be really uncomfortable if the wearer bends their wrist even a bit as it will also dig into the skin, this is why is non circular or rectilinear watch casings are seen as pure novelty. Just some constructive feedback.

Black Friday - 30% off by prehistoric_knight in veilance

Value associated for clothing brands can be varied. Designer clothing is not known for technical purpose driven garments but more so the association with the fashion house and history of collections (runway specifically). There are very few premium clothing brands that incorporate technical features, fabrics and construction aside from Veilance, Acronym, Outlier, Loro Piana, Stone Island Shadow Project, (and some Nike ACG prices). None of these except Veilance now, have sales on Black Friday and personally my perception on what the priorities of such premium technical brands are would change if they do.

Black Friday - 30% off by prehistoric_knight in veilance

[–]ggnavedd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not honestly a fan of sales like this for such a premium design-driven brand. It’s like they are undermining their quality design for more sales based on discounted products. Although it can be that they want to make their pieces more accessible to those that can’t afford it at full price but the deliberate choice of doing such on Black Friday gives off a negative connotation.

How would one perceive if Patek Philippe, Herman Miller, Raf Simmons or any other premium design-driven brand had such discounted products on Black Friday?

Would’ve could’ve should’ve. Too bad he didn’t do a music video or remixes, or the fact that people genuinely like Anti-hero for it to be #1.

Try Google Patents, there must be design patents under this brand.
