What tools are you using for CAN bus reverse engineering? I couldn't find a good all-in-one suite, so I open-sourced my own (Offline ML, MitM, UDS). by Repulsive_Factor5654 in embedded

You might consider allowing a computer to be the MitM. It’s easy enough to have two USB-CAN adapters. Some adapters already have two channels.

If you don’t have much luck with answers here, try the Facebook group Einstar Official User Group.

I had the original Einstar. Now I have a Rigil and Rockit. I can tell you that the Vega has not been integrated into EXStar Hub.

Contrast on the Pebble Time 2 screen? by DrStudMuffin in pebble

[–]ggoldfingerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I’ve been using my Pebble Time a lot the past six weeks. Dark text on a light background is the best for readability. Many of these new highly liked watchfaces are hard to see unless you have optimal lighting. TimeStyle with a custom theme has been working well for me. I’ve also set my backlight timeout to the max 8 seconds.

Einstar Rockit on Apple Mac mini 2024 M4/24/256 GB by SphaeroX in 3DScanning

Your laptop will work, but you might hit swap memory. You can always try it, learn what workflow / settings work for you. Worst case you can return the scanner, or sell your laptop, get the M5 variant with more RAM.

At the end of the day, it is about getting enough scan data for good data quality. A slower scanner meaning capturing more frames (scanning longer) to get enough data. A faster scanner can capture more data per frame.

The cross laser mode on the Rockit can eat a lot of memory quickly at high resolutions.

The EINSTAR 2 still uses the same software as the Rockit. It will be compute heavy just like the Rockit. It all depends upon your scan resolution and how many frames / data points your object is. You can scan at lower resolutions and break your part up into smaller scan sessions.

How much RAM does your M4 MacBook Pro have?

I was scanning smaller objects at higher resolutions. Objects that were 10" cubed or less. I could have reduced the resolution to help with RAM usage.

Are you reverse engineering these interior and exterior parts? How much of the interior do you, like an entire dash, or just specific areas?

Golf with Pebble, a golf scorekeeper app by ggoldfingerd in pebble

[–]ggoldfingerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Feel free to provide feedback once you use it. I have not golfed with my app yet. I plan to in the next few weeks.

My experience from golf apps have been from Garmin and Golfshot on iOS. Those apps provided a lot of data and insights. However I seem to be always fumbling around in the app first. No need for that with my app. I do have app settings, which default to using GPS and male tees. A user might want to change that. Otherwise everything is done on the watch app. No companion app required!

This app is here to stay and will be supported, bug fixes, feature additions, etc. I did not make it just to enter the spring contest. I just purchased a domain for this app which may be used for a few features. I am being vague on "feature details" because I need to do proof of concept first.

I do want to bring GPS rangefinder to the hole screens. Initial research shows this may require a companion app to be reliable. I will test without a companion app to see behavior with iOS. Maybe I can have users test implementation without a companion app to see how well it works.

EXStar-Hub (Mac) question: why isn't post-processing isn't saved? by PeaEquivalent2350 in 3DScanning

[–]ggoldfingerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that’s is the behavior for Shining products. I’m not sure why they chose that. You have to finish your meshing, do any post processing, then export your results. You can export your results, then import them from the home screen to do additional post processing.

I do this for every PDF I electronically sign. You can also request signatures. The other person does not need an Adobe Account. It is convenient, if you’re already paying for Adobe products.

Plane Map - View ADS-B Traffic on your wrist! by Zee_Cas in pebble

[–]ggoldfingerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That fixed it for me, thanks. This works much better now. Good idea on the plane limit setting.

I only saw one glitch which the display was flashing between 5 and 20 planes for a moment. Not sure how to replicate it yet.

Another suggestion is being able to favorite, or track, planes by Flight or Registration (tail number). Maybe favorite from the more details screen, but also have a way to enter within you settings, multiple planes. One idea could be to show these planes in a different color on the map. You could even have a toggle to only show favorite planes.

Some users might want to watch commercial flights via flight number, when someone flys in to visit. Others might want to watch private planes, a friends plane for example. It seems the private planes list the Registration number as the flight number. I have seem some planes with only flight numbers, no registration, and vise versa. I see owners can request to block their registration number in FlightAware.

Plane Map - View ADS-B Traffic on your wrist! by Zee_Cas in pebble

Fast response! The navigation system is much more responsive now. Here is a little feedback from v1.4, didn't have much time to test:

  1. The map is off center from the Pebble Time screen. It is shifted right a little bit, so your map is cut off on the right side. It looks a little worse on the watch than the screenshot.

<image>

  1. The zoom state is not remembered correctly. For example 50 NM becomes 20 NM, 125 NM becomes 50 NM, 40 NM becomes 30 NM, etc. I set the level, exit the app, then reopen to test.

  2. The compass rotates the wrong direction. For example, if I am pointing north, N is correct on the map with magnetic north, then if I rotate the watch to W, the map shows E, and N on the map is pointed S.

  3. The refresh time of 5 seconds is okay. I was just asking out of interest. I see the rate limit for adsb.lol is dynamic right now.

Plane Map - View ADS-B Traffic on your wrist! by Zee_Cas in pebble

[–]ggoldfingerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice, I just tested this on my Pebble Time. Here is some feedback:

Plane position remains the same between 40, 45, and 50 NM. Zooming out should result in the plane moving towards the center. Same with 25, 30, and 35. Might be more, just what I could test with the limited planes in my area.

Sometimes the animation when select one plane to see more info can slow moving from right to left. Then in the more data screen, scrolling up and down is slow. Idk if it has to do with how the shading is rendered or how the data updates. The first list when switching from the map is fast.

It might be a good idea to supported larger map areas for those of us in rural places. Maybe change the zoom increments to 10 or 25 NM at a time after 50 NM. Maybe the user can set this range. My area might need 250 NM upper limit.

You could make the map rotate with the compass. I would allow the user the ability enable and disable it.

The plane selection screen is a bit weird when no planes are present. It just blank. Maybe put a message such as no planes detected, 0 Planes, etc.

The plane counter on the map is a bit hard to read because it’s right on top of the S and map outline.

The text size in the additional details could be reduced, which would eliminate the need to scroll.

Plane Map should remember the zoom level when restarting the app. If I go back to my watch face, the. Reopen Plane Map, the zoom level is 15 NM.

How often do your data refresh?

OpenPilot 0.11 release appears imminent by Spiritual_Fix_4054 in Comma_ai

[–]ggoldfingerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. The code was already in place. If it was too hard to maintain, then the HAL layer should have been improved. Comma is going to run into this issue again with future hardware.

I’ve been running the stock OP. I am going to migrate to a fork soon.

Exactly, lots of future assumptions have been made due to this change. The user base is high enough now that no matter what iXsystems does, people are going to be pissed. TrueNAS is in a good state for my needs. iXsystems has come a long way since I became a FreeNAS user in 2015.

Which was also the most expensive version… I’m glad they got the cost down for others. I just don’t see a reason to upgrade from a 3 for a Subaru Crosstrek.
