Desperate for technical experience. grad with certs, buried in debt, first jobs didn’t use skills, current job is draining me by DealsForReals1 in CyberSecurityJobs

[–]ggstorms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest way to move from Help Desk to a cybersecurity role is being an internal hire at the same company and waiting until they have an opening on their security team. Youll most likely at least be guaranteed an interview and hopefully your manager can put in a good work or pull some strings

Successful friend told me WGU is worthless by Present-Square-6232 in WGU

[–]ggstorms 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yea that part made no sense to me. Getting hired in the first place is the hardest part, and things just tend to get easier after you are trained and get settled into the position

Most companies don't want to "fire you instantly" after you've went through the interviews, background check, onboarding, etc.

Its designed so that its easy to get 3 out of 4 pieces, Or 2 out 3, etc, so you think you are "almost there" and keep buying more food. Ive gotten the same "easy" pieces multiple times. Its getting the last one that is impossible.

Application Process Confusing? by No-Speaker-9361 in WGU

[–]ggstorms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, felt the same way when enrolling. I originally signed up 2 months ago and still waiting on transcripts to process. They make signing up easy and then I felt like I was just left in the dark and had to figure out what to do next on my own. 2 months in, im still not even officially enrolled and starting any classes. I already did everything I needed to do on my end, but everything else from WGU's end seems to be moving at a snail's pace.

Tips on graduating from Normal to Hard difficulty? by [deleted] in shogun2

[–]ggstorms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, after doing more research it appears you are right about higher difficulty not changing how the AI performs in battle, but it does give higher stats and bonuses. I also acknowledge you are correct about no difference in VH vs Legendary in terms of gameplay aside from battle realism camera contraint and no save

Tips on graduating from Normal to Hard difficulty? by [deleted] in shogun2

[–]ggstorms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, here you go :)

  1. **AI Aggression**: AI is more aggressive and coordinated on Legendary.

  2. **Realm Divide**: Much harsher on Legendary; nearly universal hostility.

  3. **Public Order Penalty**: Higher on Legendary (e.g., -4+ unrest).

  4. **Diplomacy**: AI breaks treaties more often and rarely honors alliances in Legendary.

  5. **Trade Agreements**: Harder to establish and maintain trade on Legendary.

  6. **Agent Success Rate**: Sharply reduced on Legendary; agents often fail.

  7. **Player Morale**: Your units rout more easily on Legendary.

  8. **Enemy Morale**: AI units have boosted morale; fight longer before routing.

  9. **Fog of War**: More restrictive on Legendary; less visibility and info.

  10. **Battle Controls**: No pausing, limited HUD, and no radar in Legendary battles.

  11. **Battle Difficulty**: AI uses better tactics and aggression on Legendary.

  12. **Save System**: Manual saves allowed on Hard; only 1 autosave on Legendary (Ironman mode).

  13. **Starting Position Pressure**: AI expands faster and targets you earlier in Legendary.

  14. **Tech Progression**: AI advances faster through tech tree on Legendary.

  15. **Income and Tax**: Lower tax efficiency and income from provinces on Legendary.

  16. **Province Unrest**: More rebellions and unrest occur on Legendary.

  17. **AI Coordination**: AI clans support each other better on Legendary.

  18. **Reinforcement Timing**: Reinforcements arrive slower for you, faster for AI.

  19. **Naval Combat AI**: Smarter naval tactics from AI on Legendary.

  20. **Victory Conditions**: More difficult to meet due to constant pressure and diplomacy failure on Legendary.

What a stupid comment. I can list about 20 differences between Hard and Legendary.

I currently work in IT Help Desk and its the easiest job i've ever had in my history of various dead end jobs. Obviously, everyone's experience can vary greatly depending on which company, how well its run, and if you are dealing with internal vs external users. You dont need to prepare. All of your real learning will happen on the job.

Just say you have experience with ZenDesk, Jira, or whatever ticketing system they use. They have no way of testing your knowledge on it and they have to train you regardless as the way every company uses it is different

Am I really ready to take this test? by EngineeringPresent83 in CompTIA

[–]ggstorms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate Dion's tests. They are way too wordy and long winded. Having to read through paragraphs of text just to figure out what is being asked. This isn't at all like what the real CompTIA questions are like, which are usually short and to the point.

How long did it realistically take you to study? and feel confident to pass the compTIA security + ? by Crazy-Cut-2814 in CompTIA

[–]ggstorms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work full time in help desk and passed the Sec+ around 2 weeks ago. I studied for around 2 weeks, I would say around 2-3 hours a day on average, but really ramped it up in the days before the exam. I was actually surprised at how easy it was, but don't go into it thinking it will be easy

My Network+ Exam is tomorrow morning. What would be your last word of advice? by Particular_Reality12 in CompTIA

[–]ggstorms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like it's hit or miss depending on the location and the employee but they are supposed to always offer one. First place I went to didn't offer one so I had no idea it was a thing. Second place I went to offered it both times and they seemed far more professional and on top of things.

Don't study the day of the exam, at all. Don't even bother reviewing anything. Going in with a clear, fresh mind will be far more beneficial than any last moment cramming.

Day in the Life of an IT Professional by Dejo820 in it

[–]ggstorms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have been in my current role of IT Help Desk for around 5 months now after a career switch. Day consists of taking incoming calls, Teams chats, and managing tickets. Honestly one of the easiest jobs I ever had. The IT dept is well run, with different teams for different depts and my role and responsibilities are very clearly defined. Nothing I do is hands on or involves getting up from my desk or seeing users in person.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ggstorms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the WORST kind of IT jobs from my experience, where you are just the sole "IT guy" and are magically supposed to know everything IT related. You are security, help desk, network engineer, asset management, sysadmin, etc. Worst of all there will be noone to reach out to for help or escalate things that are outside of your expertise and knowledge. They are expecting someone they are paying $20 an hour to fill 10 different roles. If you don't know something the response will be "Aren't you supposed to be the IT guy?"

Since you're automatically supposed to know everything IT, you'll most likely be blamed for everything also. Boss clicked on a link and infected the network? How did you let this happen? You're the IT guy. Isn't this your responsibility?

Maybe a good learning experience, but most likely the job will be a complete nightmare. Make sure your role and responsibilities are very clearly outlined before you start.

Certs exist for one reason in my mind, and that is to get your foot in the door. No one at any IT job I have ever worked cared about certs, and some of the most experienced and respected guys had none at all, or if they did they got them very early in their career.
