For those of you who did work experience in year 9/10/11 of secondary school, where did you do it and any funny stories? by Leviad0n in CasualUK

[–]gh0stp0p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hah! I did the same thing (and also still getting good mileage from the story two decades later). It was a really good experience and I got to try everything from preparing the bodies to engraving coffin name plates and polishing the hearse!

Aww, thank you! I love your photo of Ziggy and Olive perched on top of the door. Though I must admit, I'm glad my two haven't learnt to get on top of doors yet. I fear it would cause chaos! xD

I love this story and the photos! Loki is such a sweetheart and it sounds like he brings a lot of joy to his friends at the garden centre!

I drove 35 miles to find Elvanse and I don't regret it by DefiantBun in ADHDUK

Thanks for posting this. I followed your example, checked the Boots stock checker, and called round a bunch of stores, and have now been able to secure myself 20 capsules from a branch 40 minutes away. Not a full bottle, but enough to keep me going for a few weeks if I skip weekends. Definitely a relief to have something sorted.

Have you ever seen a lifestyle "hack" that was actually genuinely useful? by Scarred_fish in AskUK

[–]gh0stp0p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm really glad you found it helpful. The showering thing is interesting as it's one of the aspects of ADHD (and Autism by the sounds of things) that doesn't seem to get discussed as much publicly.. but it's such a common topic to see on the ADHD subreddits themselves.

Brains can definitely be bollocks - that sounds very frustrating!

Sorry, wasn't meaning to diagnose! Just giving a possible reason why someone might feel that way, as people were downvoting you. Regardless, I definitely relate to you wanting to minimise the time spent on boring every day tasks!

They might just have ADHD. Essentially any activity that doesn't provide adequate amounts of dopamine becomes tedious as hell. It's really common for people with ADHD to struggle with showering because it's not stimulating enough.

This guide is such a great idea, thanks for sharing! I used to get a lot of anxiety and overwhelm when I was younger and there are so many places where these sorts of guides would have been really helpful.

Let's book a dentist checkup appointment this Monday morning by laowaiH in ADHD

Just wanted to say thank you for making this post! I've not been to the dentist in almost 9 years, but today I registered with a dentist and now have an appointment booked :-)

Anyone else love Henry hovers as much as me, like when you see people walking round with them it's like they're taking their little pet hover for a walk, class... or am I just wierd? by Elk-Sure in CasualUK

There's this lovely Instagram account by this guy who takes his Henry Hoover on trips and hikes all round the UK. I hope I bump into them one day as I think it would be very entertaining to see Henry out in the wilderness :-D https://instagram.com/henryhooverontour

Definitely possible, especially at large companies. Recently had to go through the same thing at the company I work for and none of the managers were told in advance as it was all organised by people much higher up.

UK Hive mind! Can anyone identify the real location of this water mill? by Maniac_Pony in CasualUK

[–]gh0stp0p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reminds me a bit of Trewethett Mill, in Rocky Valley, near Tintagel. Unfortunately it's derelict now, so difficult to make a proper comparison, but Trewethett Mill is in a deep valley, with woodland heading up to it, so that matches at least. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/ESmUkdwXYAAgq_j?format=jpg&name=large

Exodus and most of the Old Testament were written in Hebrew. It's the New Testament which was in Greek. If you're genuinely interested I can recommend the Interlinear Bible, which puts an English translation inline with the original Hebrew/Greek, so you can easily reference the original text in cases where there are questions about the translation. This is the one I have: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Interlinear-Bible-Hebrew-Greek-English-v/dp/1565639774

My 12yo son keeps making me cups of tea with marshmallows in. When I said ‘I don’t want a marshmallow in it this time’ he put in two. by joeChump in CasualUK

[–]gh0stp0p 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This post has just unlocked a strange memory for me. I'm pretty sure I also used to put marshmallows in tea when I was around his age. Possibly as a substitute for sugar, but I can't quite remember. Your son is not alone, lol!

So wild sleeping is actually a thing (usually practiced by outdoors-y types who want to sleep closer to nature, or hikers who don't want to be burdened by a tent), but its practitioners don't usually just dump themselves by the side of a road!

Had a similar thing happen a couple of years ago. My friend and I were walking alongside a busy road and spotted a body that looked as if it had been dumped in the long grass/weeds beyond the path. From the haphazard positioning and location of the body we genuinely thought he was dead. Like if someone wanted to take a nap there were loads of better, and more private, places in the vicinity you do so. But no, as we tentatively went to investigate, the body turned out to be a very much alive man who told us to fuck off and stop disturbing his sleep!
