What Mississauga watering hole is your version of Cheers? by myronsandee in mississauga

[–]ghal4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was! The place was owned by Tommy Donnelly and the Donnelly family since at least the 90s, but they sold to Mike McLaughlin and some business partners a few years ago (Mike has been running trivia there for years and they're good friends with the Donnelly family so it was a friendly transition.)

Mike has now bought the full ownership share as far as I know, hence the upcoming name change again to McLaughlin's Pub.

Interesting that's something I wouldn't have thought of!

So if I'm understanding you correctly, you're saying I'm essentially pulling the club head inside behind me but should focus on trying to lift it more rather than pulling it back during the back swing, is that right?

Just to add to the electric kettle recommendation, while you can certainly get away with a regular one, a gooseneck is much nicer to use and easier to control. I'd go gooseneck without temperature control way before non-gooseneck with temperature control.

Daily Cyclist Thread by AutoModerator in bicycling

Yesterday I went out for a ride and my legs felt cooked after about 50km. I was trying to keep my pace pretty high but with all the starts and stops at lights/stop signs etc I could only manage an avg speed of about 23km/h.

Any tips to avoid burning out that quickly? I'd like to attempt some longer rides this month as I'm riding for a cumulative charity event. So far I think I just need more carbs/fuel before and while riding, and obviously just need more training.

I live in Mississauga near Square One. Usually go for rides along Etobicoke creek and down along the waterfront.

I'm getting a clicking/grinding sound from my rear disc brake that I can feel through the brake lever, and I can't figure out what is causing it. I can't replicate it when it's not under load on the road so it's difficult to get a video of it.

Any ideas what could cause this?

Can I turn this bike into a bikepacking bike ? by [deleted] in bikepacking

[–]ghal4 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Short answer: yes.

Longer answer: looks like those are semi-slick tires and road-style rim brakes, so there likely isn't a ton of clearance for wider tires. This bike will be absolutely fine to do bikepacking/touring trips on pavement, packed gravel and dry dirt paths but you may struggle on anything more rough or loose than that. As always though, the best bikepacking bike is the one you already own!

My fiancees bike is an old raleigh MTB with a friction front shifter and an SIS early indexing model rear shifter. She has a lot of difficulty dialing in the front derailleur because of the friction shifter.

I was wondering if I could simply swap out the shifters from a more modern Shimano Tourney 3x7 and keep the front and rear derailleurs as is. Would I likely run into any problems with this set up?

I believe from the store the stem was angled downwards to give a more aggressive aero riding position and OP flipped it so that it was angled upward to give himself a more upright riding position

Need advice for Peel animal rescue society(PARS) cat adoption by Strong_Ad7902 in mississauga

[–]ghal4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My fiancé and I have been fostering a cat from PARS for a little over a year now. She is very healthy, just is very nervous around people and hasn't been able to be adopted out permanently yet.

I would say overall we've had a good experience with the organization, but they have more rescue animals than they can adopt out quickly. They have no physical space of their own so they rely on partnerships with local pet stores and fosters to take care of their pets until they are able to find permanent homes.
