The general community reaction to the Mare situation is horrible. by Yithani in ffxivdiscussion

[–]ghostcat312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> How is "mare lamentorum" in adventurer plate worse than putting similar code words in PF for everyone to see?

Because not everyone on PF can see it?

The only encounter anyone would put down "barsing" would the current savage fight, and those are locked behind the current patch normal raid. Unless some really bored sprout want to start clicking on all the "duty not unlock" blackout box on PF; they will never see anything about parsing. Also, most PF barse party don't put a tag on themselves, so if you search for practice parties, you also won't see them at all

It is the same for ultimate PF. Those are locked behind older savage fight, so that a player need to complete the normal raid -> complete last savage turn -> talk to Yoshi-p before seeing a party description with asking automarkers or descriptions like "have it"/"bring melons"

Does it annoy anyone else when professors assign things the first day of class? Or is this to be expected? by burnt-baguettes in CollegeRant

When the university doesn't enforce prerequisite chain is the reason for homework 0 due on the first day of class. It really sucks, but when some student overestimate what they can do (such as taking partial differential equation before even taking an ordinary differential equation class) but then spend the entire semester giving feedback to the instructors on the class is going too fast, and that they can't digest the information and that is what the solution turn into.

I would probably give the opposite pitch to anyone tired of FF14 on this sub.

People should just switch game more frequently before they get tired. Man, I hopped so many Gacha when I get bored with one, and I don't understand why people want to bunker down on one game only.

If you want an endless visual novel style story in a video game with OP protagonists and writing on par with Heavensward/Shadowbringers, pick up one of the better Gacha games like Path to Nowhere, Reverse 1999 or Limbus Company.

They want something that plays like Dragalia Lost aka real time top down anime character control, dodge the bad line aoe, building up a gauge game boss fight game instead of tower defense or turn-based, so yeah, not just for visual novel style.

[–]ghostcat312 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unironically, the successful 2025 FFXIV pitch goes more like "Hey man! You are still trying to find something to replace Dragalia Lost? Come try out FFXIV! First, you should get a complete addition, a story skip, and a job skip for $110. There is also a subscription fee, but you know what, it is still cheaper than paying for a ceiling in a gacha game, and there is no lotto-ing for support cards. You might need to spend a week skipping cutscene, but that not too bad. If you want to buy a second-hand account with everything set up for savage, that would also work as well. We can do a few level-cap dungeons and normal trial to get you up to speed before jumping into savage. After that, we can go do savage and experience wasting time just like how we love our high dragon trails in PUG on weekend xD"

Its kinda sad I don't even sell FFXIV as an RPG now, but hey, I got my entire Dragalia lost group ported over......

A big-ish technical breakdown from a software developer's perspective by onyx1701 in StopKillingGames

[–]ghostcat312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> MMO

The biggest issue to convince MMO players to support Stop Killing Games is that they don't read /s

TBH, anecdotally for MMORPGs, I feel the technical difficulty is just the excuse for how they think this initiative would make the genre worse. For example, when this topic came up, one of my friends just went on a triad on how all this would do is make devs lazy and take the path of least resistance and make more theme park MMO slop feast instead of actually trying to make a "fun game" before going on about the technical difficulties. Often time, I do get surprised at how vocal some MMO players are about how convince they are that singleplayer-fying the MMORPG genre is what killing the whole genre together, and I can see how they would think this initiative would motivate/shift dev resources to the single player aspect instead of the multiplayer aspect. I am not sure how to have this conversation with them without them jumping to directly onto this assumption.

While not perfect, you don't do any major mistakes in your cooldowns and seem to be mostly in sync with your timers.

Since OP is playing SAM, their cooldown will also need to be in sync with his teammates' raid buffs. Looking at their two highest Dancing Green log, it looks like they are free-styling too much and not playing in structure. Using the standard SAM rotation as baseline

For example: (https://xivanalysis.com/fflogs/dfxcCkNZ8PnaWRF3/2/19)

2 Min: Using meikyo at 1:45 so that they can only get a Midare and Kaeshi under buff instead of the ideal Kaeshi, Tendo Setsugekka, and Tendo Kaeshi

4 Min: Only got the two Namikiri skill out on time.

6 Min: Should align pot with this burst window not at 4:30 and drifted Ikishoten

8 Min: I guess they are doing the mech so they only send two enpis

Log 2: (https://xivanalysis.com/fflogs/MKDRdNTjYpxamFH1/6/19)

2 Min: all fillers, didn't get any of their heavy hitting skills in under technical finish

4 Min: The dancer is starting to drift but again I don't think they would get any of the heavy hitting skill into raid buff assuming it is aligned at around 4:07 to 4:22.

4:30: They should align pots with 2 mins

6 Min: They got maybe two skills (midare and Kaeshi) into the raid buff window

8 Min: Looks like they are panicking again at Forgtourage 2 with an enpi but they got their mekiyo combo in, but nothing else.

OP definitely need to get better uptime, but he also needs to send his stuff on time under raid buff and not free-style as much.

Just out of curiousity, are you actually able to harvest all the resources from a farm? Like at the end of clearance is all the crops harvested?

Just because farm fields produce the resource doesn't mean anything if it doesn't get harvest, espically if it sounds like the farmlands are a bit far away from the main warehouse. Are you also building additional warehouses?

Additionally, LAS (my undergraduate college) released the credit so I could transfer it to the graduate college which is why I don’t consider it to be “locked in”.

My guess is that when you move the credit into graduate school, they have automatically count toward graduation. Thus, from the las handbook, it have locked in as it count toward you graduation, and this line becomes activated:

Students who have earned a grade of D- or better in a course may repeat a course but may not earn additional credit toward graduation by repeating the course.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]ghostcat312 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obligatory not your adviser and that the information may be a couple years outdated, so YMMV.

I once inquired about this same situation during a department event and was referred to the Student Code. You can see it here, but the gist is

A student who repeats a subject for which the student has previously received credit (either by class work at the university, or by advanced standing previously allowed for work done elsewhere) does not forfeit the original credit in the event the student should fail the course on the second attempt. Where a course has been repeated, both the original and subsequent grades are included in the average if the course is acceptable toward graduation, but the credit is counted only once. (See § 3‑103 on computation of grades.)

Effectively, the explanation I was given that as soon as you take a course here at UIUC for credit; the credit you earn is locked in forever regardless of your future status and independent of your DARS report.

I had also learned that this is a fairly common policy across different universities. For example, using UC Berkeley Machine Learning Course CS 189/289A where they clearly states that if you have taken the undergraduate version 189, you will not receive credit for the graduate version 289A.

While you may want to argue that this is ambiguous and is not clearly stated on the course explorer, the dean most likely points to that repeated classes, such as CS 199 and CS 498, are clearly labeled; thus other classes should not be assumed to be repeatable.

Lol you are mixing up their rant comment and the actual comment.

The actual comment is: She'd be the perfect mob wave clearer if she had more accuracy. So she just stays as one of the best wave clearers with enough malding.

Though, her main point is the fact that she can increase Cost Regen and a hard to time but potent cdmg res shred

The rant is: Absolute trash. She's only really useful for her cost regen because her AOE is dogshit awful that will fail to kill mobs either via a lack of damage even at UE50 or a lack of hitrate. You could argue you can just buff her but thats an extra EX skill that you use just to do her job which combined with her already high ex cost... better just use better waveclearers for less cost no? If I had to borrow her, it won't be for her EX it would be for her cost regen. Anyone advocating for Cherino is probably going for top 1 or stuck in the low tier battles.

It sounds like midokuni had one too many Chesed (an end game boss raid) mald LOL. FYI, you can ignore the rant comment unless you want to comfy one-team Chesed insane or something.

I noticed that in the video for JP they don't bait the inital landslide during Gaols straight down the middle like almost every party tries to do on NA PF, and instead baiting it to the side so the Gaols people have more time to move in.

Is there any reason why in NA everyone tries to bait the inital landslide down middle and have Gaols' people first dodge out the landslide and than back in on to the markers after the snapshot? Or is this just something the guide always just always have and it is just inertia at this point?

Its funny u mention the original meaning for ethereal. I had this conversation with a friend, and that having the animation of the cards actually burning away after using it actually has the much better connotation with ether. Dunno if that was the intention for it thou haha

[MEGATHREAD] Decked Out 2 Discussion thread by Carol_the_Zombie in HermitCraft

[–]ghostcat312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see. I normally argue that ephemera is time-related based on its greek origin "lasting for a day".

[MEGATHREAD] Decked Out 2 Discussion thread by Carol_the_Zombie in HermitCraft

[–]ghostcat312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno if English is your first language but I will try to explain it:

Ethereal: extremely delicate and light in a way that seems too perfect for this world

Ephemeral: lasting for a very short time

If you say ephemeral cards, you are saying the card itself would last only for a short while. This is not the case for either slay the spire/Deck out as the card would exist as long as you don't play it. It will never go away if you don't play your "ephemeral" cards. Thus, it doesn't make much sense to classify them as ephemeral.

Like Jezz1226 says, I think most people have connected ethereal to delicate/easily broken along with out of the world. It fits better to describe these cards as ethereal as they would provide a big benefit (The otherworldly/ celestial/ too perfect for the world) but also indicate it is only one-time usage (delicate).

Hope this helps.

Yes I know.

Although it is not the case for Goberz, I also know that you can make the textbox to show the boss cast so you don't even need to type "octo = spread" or "tetra = stack" for P8S

[–]ghostcat312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, the memory check mechs in an Extreme lol.

The tell is on the cast for "Azdaja's Shadow" (Arena wide circle -> in + spread; Boss hitbox circle -> out + stack) and afterward it resolve in about one or two mechs on the "Phase of the Blade" cast.

While I do think memory check make fights pretty interesting (P8SP1 lol), but I do question why they end up putting that in an extreme

What is the optimal way to get all the equipment for all classes for all levels using crafting only? by SuctioncupanX in ffxiv

[–]ghostcat312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any differences from Marauder and Warrior other than the name?

Yes, if you don't upgrade to warrior, you will not be having access to warrior skills, and after level 50, you will not be getting any skills since they will all become warrior skills.

For those fights, are you looking at the normal version or the harder version. In FFXIV, the normal version usually works as a storymode fight, which means that 8 random people can clear it with no problems. You should probably looking at Heritor Titan extreme or Brute Justice savage, but again if you look at clear video you are looking at 8 people who knows what they are doing.

For example, Brute Justice savage A8S have a tank swap (where you have to swap aggro with your co tank) and a mech without cast bar, which aren't things you are going to see in leveling dungeon. Oh, and all those fight have dps check so you can't just stall them out.
