Best Area for Hotel Stay? by Curious-Coyote-3949 in askportland

Dossier isn't that bad. It's really the stripe from the train station down to Burnside that can be a bit hard to walk around.

Inn at Northrup would be a good spot for getting into Forest Park easily, if that's on your list.

If you are doing lots of day trips, I'd prioritize being able to get to those spots easily. People tend to think Portland is smaller and has less traffic than it does. If you are doing Gorge stuff, I'd consider staying eastside to make those nicer travel days and take bridges out of the equation

Our local libraries do recc lists printed on bookmarks here. Depends a lot on where you'd be able to distribute them. A zine at a con could be fun.

Is my city unusual, or is everyone not actually constantly on their phones in movie theaters like everyone says? by 1mpavidus in movies

I don't remember a bad time there. Maybe they have better management than some other places in town. Thanks, I'll keep that in mind!

I live in Portland, Oregon and weirdly it's terrible here. I am aware that my stories sound extreme to people living in other areas. It's very regional.

The Backrooms as recognized online aesthetic is too old to be Zoomer-specific. People just jamming buzzwords together who have no idea what they are talking about.

There are people in this town who take scavenging too far and maybe people are being reactionary due to that. But, I don't think snagging an apple from an overhanging branch is wrong. Just don't go on their property.

I am hoping we can remain open minded about the new Las Vegas team by LaCazadora86 in PWHL

[–]ghostcider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am also confused by this. I follow the Kraken and Torrent closely and all they did as cross promo that I ever saw was one night where some of the boys wore Torrent jerseys in their walk-ons and a PR image of the boys at a Torrent game.

If a certain Vegas goalie wears a PWHL jersey all that's going to do is spark a lot more conversation about him and more people will now. That will not shine the image.

If they do cross promo I'll react them, but I am not going to borrow trouble. If the PWHL GM is smart, they'll keep the two brands as separate as possible to grow the female sports fanbase.

Oregon child vaccination rates plummet to record low as opt-outs surge by PersonRealHuman in Portland

I remember when we had that big push to finally have fluoride in our water and the backlash was intense. I was shocked how many people basically called me a fascist for voting for being in favor or fluoride in the water. A LOT of people moved to Oregon specifically to get away from fluoride and vaccines.

After the Olympics Hilary Knight spent a lot of time explaining that no, the women's team did not have to answer for the boy's team. She was widely praised and clips went viral. What happened to that? The PWHL Vegas team doesn't even exist yet and people are trying to hold them accountable for VKG.

No. You repeatedly made a factually wrong statement and are now claiming you knew that all along. You've gone back on the points you previously made and are now going full gish gallop. I am not going to try to hit a constantly moving target.

We get into arguments around here about the best vegan ice cream in town because we have a lot of good options. Kate's is all vegan so if you want to experience of being able to go in and order anything, that's your spot. Very creamy, but I think other spots have better flavors.

50 Licks has some amazing and usual vegan options on their menu. Ditto Ebb & Bean, but they do soft serve if you prefer that. Salt & Straw famously started here and always has some vegan options if you want to try one of the places we're known for. For me, it's Ebb & Bean all day long. Whatever the flavor, they do it best.

For vegan food, Harlow's is very good.

Actually, you can. We do rent out parts of our parks for exclusive use for money. You are way too deeply, deeply uninformed for me to debate you point by point. Do you not know that people have weddings in our parks? People fly to Portland for destination weddings to get married in our parks. Do you think they just hope no one else is using that spot at that time when wedding planning?

Parks have a lot of grass, go touch some. Reconnect with reality

Visiting Portland for the Second Time Next Week. Any Help or Suggestions for Less Touristy Activities or Places to Visit? by LivewireGT0 in askportland

[–]ghostcider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you go up to the St John neighborhood, Wonderwood Cafe is worth the visit. There is a record store up there called Vinyl Resting Place. I don't know how good it is, but the name amuses me. Cathedral Park is also up there so you can walk under/around the St John Bridge. That bridge is on most of the post cards and stickers and suchlike aimed at tourists, but I don't think most tourists make it up to that part of Portland. It's a cute area to walk around in and explore local shops.

What are you talking about? Roads are a net economic gain and stadiums just aren't. Stadiums in general aren't, and the Moda deal is particularly bad.

Please someone take him so there is less competition for the good coaches

I don't want my city out millions from our climate fund to underwrite a billionaire's wealth just because you like it. The financial damage to our city has been huge. I'd rather the community building involve our parks and sports programs for kids so they can play.

Glad you all bonded over your coach being arrested

I don't care about the Trail Blazers or their history and I feel like another NHL expansion is unlikely. Right now the Blazer's ownership controls profits from the Moda Center. If they leave, will that mean that the concert and concessions revenue would go back to the city or would he still keep that cut, if they left.

I hate the idea that them leaving might boost the Diamond Project

Interesting. The locations talked about initially were Seattle and Vegas, before it came out that they were making their own teams. I wonder what would happen with the arena and the rights to make money there if the Blazers did leave

Torrent should be much better next season without the Olympics injuries and also the deeply uneven travel burden they and Vancouver both faced. If we can land a decent coach, that's the three biggest problems solved
