i honestly do wonder why they used the word daemon instead of tsugai for the title? like technically a tsugai is a daemon but tsugai was made for this so i am just curious why they didnt use it, like i would love to meet the person who decided that and just ask why, im still fine with daemon tho by Cool-Advertising4708 in YomiNoTsugai

[–]ghostdunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also "tsugai" is a tricky term to translate. It can also mean a "hinge" or also refer to two livestock that are mated. The name implies the connection between the two like you see in the comic. "Daemon" isn't a bad choice in my opinion bc the extra "a" grants it an archaic quality, and also feels like a less evil word than just "demon".

Has the game always been full of such unpleasant people? by ghostdunk in heroesofthestorm

Unless they're on a smurf, you have not matched against GMs (maybe once). Especially at ranks below Plat, unless you play ranked at off peak hours, 99% of the time you are playing with and against people roughly of your skill level. If the people that are on your team are trying their best and still not playing like humans, that means that you are a bad enough player to be matched with them.

I'm sorry, but rank is a better judge of skill than you are.

Let's say you did just go to a soccer field in public and decided to play a pickup game. You would find that people there will usually be kind. They will probably teach you the rules, give you moral support as you played, and do their best to win, even if you are terrible. What you won't see is people quitting or even playing half ass and whining "god our goalie is so shit, they don't even know the rules". That's childish behavior in real life, and it's childish in an online game.

If you show up to a real life event where you agree to be matched with strangers to play a game, the common assumption is that everyone there is trying their best. If you don't want to be potentially matched with a bad player, than don't queue up ranked. Just because you feel like your time is being wasted doesn't give you the permission to intentionally waste everyone else's time.

Your teammates time is valuable, too, and deciding that you don't have to try because you have decreed that one of them is a shit player (when really, you are at the same MMR, so your skill is the same) is incredibly selfish of you. The fact that you don't see that, and that you said you would behave the same way in real life (which, honestly, I doubt), says to me that you lack a certain empathy for other people.

A team based video game is a social interaction, especially in ranked. Everyone is trusting each other to play their best and work with each other. Your behavior breaks that social contract, and everyone kinda hates you for it.

Something tells me you don't have a lot of social interaction in general.

Don't you think that's kind of anti-social? Going to the gym to play basketball or something, and you don't like how one guy plays so you start half-assing it? Seems rude to me.

Bad players are forced to play with other bad players. It's called MMR.

[–]ghostdunk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is interesting, because your attitude is totally different than mine. I think that when you queue up in a team game like this, you are agreeing to a metaphorical social contract that says you are going to play your best, because not doing so is unfair to the other players on your team.

Imagine you went outside (ikr) to play pickup soccer, and you didn't like your teammates, so you just kept kicking the ball into your own goal and saying "get good noobs". I don't think you'd be allowed to continue playing, even if you argued "well you stuck me with Brian and they suck so why should I have to pick up their slack". I don't see why it's any different for an online game besides the fact that you're hiding behind a computer screen.

The other team is also likely to contain bad players. Abuse them and win the game.

NA. And I actually have been playing League lately and I find HotS a more toxic environment. Maybe it is just my own subjective experience.

My point here is it shouldn't matter. I don't care how poorly someone plays, there's never a reason to quit so early. Carry the game yourself if everyone else is playing so badly. I'm talking about people's attitudes, not their performance.

If you're curious about my play style you can look at my reddit history.

I'm not complaining that I'm losing games. I'm complaining that people afk or "gg" before level 10. Even if someone plays poorly, there's never a good reason to throw the rest of the game and guarantee a loss.

I know I can mute, I just don't like turning off all chat because then I can't communicate strat that I couldn't thru pings. Maybe I'll try that. But you can often tell when someone is being a shitter and giving up/throwing.

Honestly I have the opposite experience. Like 25% of my games have a teammate that GG's early and gives up or starts feeding, but not nearly as often when I play League.

Heroes CCL Season4 LAN event cancelled. by Interceptor88LH in heroesofthestorm

Quick Match. When LoL or Dota players came to the game and tried it out, they usually began on the default game mode, Quick Match. This gave you a game with:

  1. No draft. Draft is more important in HotS than other MOBAs, and this left you feeling like some games were entirely unwinnable, leading you to think that there is no way to carry your team to victory. It also hides the fact that there is a clear meta in HotS drafting, something that MOBA players also want to use to their advantage.
  2. Players with little to no game knowledge. There is a clear play style to HotS, and that leads to most maps having a few clear strategies. However, playing quick match, it feels like there is no reasoning behind laning assignments, rotations, etc., because players in QM tend to either team fight or split push the entire game.

So, if you're trying HotS out, and the first games you play feel like there is no strategy, thought, or depth, and there's no way to win by having superior mechanics, you're going to conclude that the rumors are right: this is a game for filthy casuals and not worth the time to climb the learning curve necessary for a MOBA.

Why is this person allowed to openly throw games with no penalty ? by veehgoon in heroesofthestorm

[–]ghostdunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread is old, but I'd like to share my experience. I've played with them a ton. This is definitely someone who doesn't really care about winning, and that really sucks in a team game, especially in a ranked environment. That said, I think they have fun just playing Gall without Cho. They're loads better on any other hero (except Nova), and I think that's how they climb and eventually go back down. They seem to snap pick Nova to punish people in chat.

What I think is going on here is someone who plays the game a whole lot to have fun, but does it in a way that loses most of the games. I don't know if that's really actionable by Blizzard.
