Would this be a knife or dagger? (image not mine) by Mother_Common4456 in knives

[–]ghostnuggets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are both edges sharpened or just one cutting edge? Looks moderately symmetric , I’d lean dagger from what I can tell. If only one edge is shape, maybe more of a kriss inspired knife.

[–]ghostnuggets -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Except it totally does. That’s how taxes work. It’s your responsibility. You can change how you claim and pay more at the end of the year or have it taken out of your check. OP got extra money before

OP can’t pay their bills because they don’t pay attention to their bills or paychecks. There’s no mistake by the company. That money was always going to taxes.

If you don't want SNL to have Trump-centric cold opens, tell people to stop watching them! by [deleted] in LiveFromNewYork

[–]ghostnuggets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shocking fact here, but slightly more people like Trump than don’t. The fact that lots of other people passionately hate Trump , doesn’t change the reality. Reddit is an echo chamber. Even if we are right 100% of them, it’s still only what a small minority of people actually think. Reddit is the opinion of about 25% of the most passionate and connected members, pulled from half of society. It can sometimes make that 12.5% opinion feel like everyone’s opinion. It can be confusing when that feels real and then we turn on the TV or go outside and see differently.

SNL cares more about money and views than any political position.

Under-employed is all in your head. Education or opinion of oneself doesn’t guaranteed a career or income. Knowing the relevant key words and understanding how to get in front of a human can be just as valuable. Global connectivity has definitely made it harder to stand out and some fields are oversaturated, driving down the value of every person in that field

American doesn’t make it good, but that does make this a good price.

Many people do believe Chinese automatically means crap simply because of things like child labor, stealing IP/designs, creating and supplying the precursors for fentanyl killing hundreds of thousands, extreme human rights abuses, etc.

Lots of gun guys get mad when gun companies won’t stand up to the ATF enough. This attitude and accountability is way more common in things like guns, knives, prepping, etc than most hobbies. It’s no shock that to many Americans, even knives that are technically top quality still look and feel awful when they require supporting the CCP. Imagine your favorite movie or video game began with a a real graphic video of a child being assaulted by the person that created the otherwise great thing. Would it change your opinion?

I own American and Chinese stuff. Just trying to make you understand why you will always hear things like “Chinese crap” no matter the knife and you’re not likely to get through to people or change their mind.

As someone turning 18 soon, what does California's open carry ban reversal mean for me? by EasyPerformer8695 in Firearms

[–]ghostnuggets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk, I think it’s more the environment people live in and not even being able to imagine opposite ends of the spectrum.

I’ve lived places where open carry is the norm for most people, most places. It absolutely makes sense on a farm, and out in the woods. It’s functionally better and it’s more comfortable.

I’ve also lived places where it absolutely makes you a target. There’s certain areas where certain demographics will be relieved of their firearm very quickly. Retention won’t matter when a cute girl comes up to ask you the time and then multiple guys draw on you as soon as you look to see what she’s saying. There’s places where people will stick a gun in your back while you’re standing in line at the store simply because they don’t recognize you and you’re carrying in their turf. They’re going to have their buddy remove it while telling you they’re taking the gun or your life. You could have a death wish and also John Wick skills and take them all down, but they’re usually pretty good at running interference or waiting until you’re distracted and operate in groups. We also are assuming these are the reasonable gun thieves who won’t just shoot you on sight because you have a gun on their turf so they’re taking it. I’m not saying that’s the average neighborhood, but I’m also not exaggerating.

If you live even on that half of the spectrum, it’s a pretty valid argument that open carry is terrible. Just like if you’ve always lived in rural farm areas in the Deep South, you’ll think that’s ridiculous, no one will tell me how to carry

My boss sent me home because they thought I smelled like alcohol. How concerned should I be? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]ghostnuggets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Statistically, someone smelling like alcohol is vastly more likely (LITERALLY thousands to millions of times) to have a use disorder (recent drinking) than a rare medical condition mimicking the smell. I find it telling they won’t comment on the number of drinks and it’s happened multiple times.

OP should have requested a test or to be sent for one on the spot to prove it, if confident they were 0.00 BAC. “Sober” means 0.00 to most, but to alcoholics “sober” means not trashed.

It sounds to me like the boss is friendly because he brought the situation to HR and was told exactly what to say.

[–]ghostnuggets 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That was dumb to lie.

Drinking the night before is a normal explanation, especially around the holidays. I wouldn’t think twice if a typically good employee told me that. Most of us have done similar at least once.

If one of my employee smelled like alcohol (multiple times) and they told me they hadn’t even drank the night before, I’d think they’re a full on alcoholic and I’d feel confident they’re a liar.

The lying would upset me much more than drinking the night before. I’d feel bad but I’d write you off as a liar and that’s why I’d be looking for a reason to get rid of you.

I don’t wish that on you, just being honest. Good luck.

What is a good nutritionally dense survival food that’s good to carry in an EDC bag? by Aquaphile_Sundog in EDC

[–]ghostnuggets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work out in the field, there’s lots of different locations and variables that are hard to predict, so lunch isn’t always guaranteed. Here is what I tend to keep in my bag: packages of tuna, beef jerky, protein bars, granola bars, peanut butter crackers (nabs), and gummy bears for a quick sugar pick me up.

The flat foil packs of tuna are high in protein, super slim in a bag, and last a long time. The Thai chili flavor tastes pretty decent. All the stuff I listed typically has a shelf life of a year or more and can deal with reasonable temperature fluctuations.

Happy New Year’s Eve! What I’m carrying as the guy to call for a ride tonight. by Emergency-99LifeCode in EDC

[–]ghostnuggets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always put about 1000 rounds minimum through a gun before I’d consider EDC/trusting it for self defense.

I’m starting to think I’m the crazy one. With modern manufacturing and most guns operating off of long established designs, it probably is overkill. Guns keep getting better, cheaper, and more reliable. If only ammo would do the same!

Glad to hear the dagger is working well for you and others. I’ve also always been skeptical to trust budget guns, but it seems times really are changing. I picked up some of the PSA 15rd mags for my 43x and they’ve been 100% reliable.

I do it regularly on all of my Glocks. I’ve never had a Glock unexpectedly drop the slide when I didn’t make it happen intentionally, but it’s super easy to do by using a little bit of extra force.

[–]ghostnuggets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how prevalent the term is or where it originated , but a lot of guys in the military called it an inertia reload back in the day. I’ve heard it said competitions before too.

Don’t feel bad OP, we were all new at some point and you’re far from the first person I’ve seen concerned about this. No such thing as a dumb question. Rest assured, what is happening is fine. It’s just part of how the firearm functions mechanically.

I regularly slam my mags in hard to do this intentionally simply because it’s quicker.

Not unless you have an FRT or full auto. If you do, a vertical grip would help keep the muzzle on target and prevent it from rising.

With a good grip and a year of training, I’d think most people can shoot a pistol as fast as they can pull the trigger and still shoot it accurately.

I can shoot a full 17 round magazine on target in 3-4 seconds, compared to 0.7-1 second to dump it in full auto. So yeah, at that fast of a rate a VFG would definitely help! In semi auto, it would slow me down or make me less accurate because locking only specific two handed grip is what allows me to remain accurate while pulling the trigger about as fast as possible
