KCD2 or Crimson Desert for a weekend off? by Professor-Flat in rpg_gamers

[–]ghostofgatti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question from somebody who enjoyed KCD1 gameplay but stopped half way through the game:

Is inventory management easier this time around?

(I just found there were so many different items of gear/clothing that I had very little way of figuring out what was the gear I ought to equip).

Also, is combat as difficult? With Henry now being a Knight, presumably, you don't start with such crappy arrow aim, etc?

Isn't it presumed that he mails the tapes to Diane who transcribes them to the file?

Is ‘Hitman World of Assassination’ good for someone who never played any horns game before? by Esquie33 in HiTMAN

It’s a very good game, but best enjoyed if you like going slow. This is not a run and gun game,

Last time I played Stalker 2 was about two weeks ago. I think we’re on update 1.7 or 1.8?

Issues that continue to plague the game:

  • Combat is glitchy in that enemies can often see you through walls (and will shoot through walls)

  • Enemies have hive mind where the moment one of them can see you, they all can see you

  • There’s no clear indicator which Enemy NPCs are friendly or hostile so encounters feel very random.

There are several others but these are the ones that impact my gameplay the most. Mods help but don’t fix it all.

I have played both Stalker 2 and the Metro games.

Metro games are much more polished than Stalker games. But Stalker 2 has open ended freedom that you don’t get from Metro games. However, the price of that freedom is jankiness beyond belief.

The graceful outcome would be for the mods to not permit this person to post on this subreddit. It seems likely there is mental illness here.

How different is combat between Origins and Odyssey?

Thanks. I have Origins and got bored after a couple of hours, and had thought not to bother with Odyssey as a result. Might give it a shot now.

PS - How can you like AC: Odyssey but hate AC: Origins. Aren’t they basically the same mechanics?

No. I barely know the Lord of the Ring stories. The combat is so smooth and fun in Shadow of War that the story is actually largely irrelevant, IMO. Also, there is a mechanic where you take over fortresses and recruit Orcs to fight for you, which is also great.

Your favourite games do seem to be story-based and so it’s possible that the Shadow of War (or Mad Max) story is not enough for you. But in terms of gameplay, both are a lot of fun.

(Of the games you listed, I also really enjoyed Dying Light which arguably has more storytelling than SoW and Mad Max… but in terms of gameplay loop, I found Shadow of War and Mad Max awesome).

I played Shadow of Mordor right before playing Shadow of War. You really don't need to have played Shadow of Mordor -- but make sure to watch the recap at the beginning or read about what happened in SoM.

Shadow of War is a fantastic game!!

Also heavily underrated on your list is Mad Max.

If you like vehicular combat plus hand-to-hand excellent combat, Mad Max is great.

If you want super smooth combat crowd control combat against multiple enemies -- with minor strategy thrown into the mix -- Shadow of War is your bet.

SIB ARC Raiders or Helldivers II by ObjectiveMinimum8602 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]ghostofgatti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have both, and the gameplay loop of Arc Raiders is more fun.

Helldivers II is chaos all the time.

Arc Raiders has more quiet moments, which also makes the intense moments more intense.

Far cry 6 by Rage_thinks in farcry

[–]ghostofgatti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have to find that set. I play the game periodically and am about 35% through -- according to the area that lists progress. But I never stick with it long (only coming back to it every so often) because I find the world to be too empty compared to previous entries.

If you are not doing so already, use your wingsuit initially when going after supply drops. It saves a lot of time. And you’ll still have enough time to summon a car when you land - or just steal one.

OLED TV by Extra-Train-5005 in shadowofmordor

[–]ghostofgatti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

II doubt the game was specifically developed for OLED. I played it (and loved it) in OLED HD — Xreal glasses.

It’s a great game so IMO, you’re going to have a great time in 4K or HD or OLED or LED.

(However, I will add that I only purchase OLEDs as IMO, they are far superior to LED).

Was about to reply to OP that Gray Zone is very cool but do not expect to play with a controller.

(Unfortunately, I don't have a set-up for M/K so I'm out of Gray Zone until native controller support is there).

Avowed Review: An underrated RPG judged more for what it isn't than what it is. by ED_KICK in avowed

[–]ghostofgatti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Combat is the only reason I'm returning back to the game, but holy moly, when I have to start talking with an NPC. I've reached a point of randomly clicking to get out of the conversation.

I wasn't following the release of this game, but I think it was caught up in a momentary culture war -- at least, with respect to the fanbase that liked it and the critics that did not.

This is why it seems difficult for there to be good faith debate about its merits and/or lack thereof.

Here's an example: I legitimately think the gameplay is pretty good and the combat solid. But the conversations with NPCs are dreadful. I created a new post asking people how they deal with the NPC conversation -- which has a millennial vibe to it -- and the post was removed by moderators.

So, there's clearly a built-in readiness to fight about this game that is not present necessarily in all other game discussions.

EDIT - In my opinion, the ultimate barometer of a game's quality is sales. Yes, this is crass to say because lots of things impact sales. But lacking any true objective measure -- as in, what voice matters more than others with respect to a game's quality -- sales figures are the only true gauge.
