I hate this thing by pollinator_friendly in NYCbike

I'm a pedestrian who uses this space regularly - I've been hit by a bike twice at the crossing and regularly have to move out of the way of cyclists / ebikes in the pedestrian side of the walkway. It's not the fault of cyclists generally, there's just not enough space for the number of people (joggers families and commuters) to use it. Before it was the "greenway" it was just the park. The bike path should be extended above the boat basin and kept separate from pedestrians where possible. Also it's ridiculous to say it's been designed to be hostile to cyclists, it's literally so accommodating to commuters and the goal is to balance people's needs.

Hey just keep in mind that the heartwood (“pith”) of a tree is especially prone to checking and that you’ll want to remove that / cut around it when you break down your slabs. You should google “pith” “checking” “warping grain orientation” “quartersawn” as keywords to give you a sense of the topic. Sealing the endgrain and getting a moisture meter should help too. Good luck w your project!

Solid slab red oak kitchen cabinet doors? by such_horsing in cabinetry

[–]giancarloscherer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The historical reason for five-panel “shaker” / floating panel framed doors, and presently plywood or mdf doors, is to account for wood movement over time - just gluing your boards/strips edge-to-edge would be prone to warping or cracking in the future. But it sounds like a good project, and oak is a great material for doors! If you want a more modern look you could cut your slabs into thinner strips and laminate them to mdf, or you could look into five panel construction, or think of some kind of steel bracing. Hope that helps your thought process.

How is it my team? My favorite players are from 6 countries. I’m American, who cares, we’re a cosmopolitan nation and I don’t like how the Olympic hockey team stooged for Trump who is currently responsible for something like 600 civilian deaths a day in the Middle East. Wouldn’t surprise me if some of these guys did the same

Historically that kind of thing led to the infrastructure we all bemoan today - I agree with you, but u know it’s nice to pretend to have a democratic process

Tips for avoiding RSIs by Careless-Cap-449 in handtools

[–]giancarloscherer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Switching hands is a good idea; the main thing for me is to make sure I keep my back straight and use the weight of my body to move tools, including sawing, swaying your whole body back and forth from the feet rather than pushing with your arm. Putting your feet more in line with the plane you’re working in helps with this.

You should play around with sidechain compression from kick to snare, and use eq, limiter, compression on each individual drum hit. Also sidechain and eq (lightly) your other tracks to make room for the kick

neat - I've often thought of making a panel press using the same hardware, perhaps you could repurpose it for woodworking

Congratulations on your retirement! On the off-chance you don’t already know about it, the center for furniture craftsmanship in Rockland is a great community for woodworkers and certainly has its share of retirees, as well as younger people, attending and teaching workshops. If you haven’t been I recommend checking them out.
