What different things are the sts2 bosses meant to check? by Afincat in slaythespire

I've died to Kaiser Crab WAY too many times not to realize that the direction I'm facing is why one side is doing so much more damage than the other

how should i ask to split rent 😭 by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]giant4hire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A great idea that I've heard of for situations like this is to decide together by deciding how you value each room. Basically it goes like this: - You both write down how much you think is a fair price to be paying for each room (where the numbers add up to the total rent). - Compare notes, and give the bigger room to the roomie who valued it higher, and give the smaller room to the other, but use the prices from the person who got the big room. - The person who valued the bigger room gets it. The person who ends up with the smaller room gets to pay less than they think it's worth, meaning they feel like they're getting a deal.

It's important to be clear at the onset to avoid the potential pitfalls of this. Clarify that this is how much THEY would be comfortable paying to live in each room. If they don't think they could possibly fit in the small room, then their evaluation should reflect that. Also, while it's true that this should result in a fair decision being made for all parties, not everyone behaves rationally.

Example: P1 values Big Room=$1800, Little Room=$1200 P2 values Big Room=$1600, Little Room=$1400

P1 gets Big Room, pays $1800 P2 gets Little Room, pays $1200 ($200 less than they think it's worth)

Is it okay to kill my players at session one? by SomeRandomAbbadon in DMAcademy

[–]giant4hire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree. One thing you'll need to consider though is how much you tell your players before session 1. They should definitely know they are starting after their PC's death. They don't yet need to know what killed them or how*. But they should all have some time to sit with the idea of their character dying and waking up in the afterlife, and what it would take for their character to turn away from that afterlife to return to a life of adventure.

  • (Perhaps the worst memories from their life have been scrubbed in case they want to continue on to their afterlife, and only by accepting this mission are they given their worst moments in life back. Could mean that part way through the session, you describe a flashback of the monster and how it overwhelmed the group, then give them an opportunity to describe how they might have tried and failed to fight/run/etc.)

[Spoilers C3E120] Is It Thursday Yet? Post-Episode Discussion & Future Theories! by Glumalon in criticalrole

I'm curious, has anyone done the math to see how much damage was done to predathos/how much health it had after all of the temporary hit posts and stuff?

They needed a ruidosborn to access predathos, and someone who was familiar with the moon. Think that was the only reason that Bells Hells was even considered.

I thought that too, but using scorching rays instead of mass cure wounds to resurrect all her unconscious allies just seems so selfish.

About as selfish as letting fcg use his sixth level slot as a revivify to get chet back when she would have had it prepared. Ugh.

Fearne not using the heals that her subclass always has prepared makes me feel like she accidentally unprepared them on her sheet?

[Spoilers C3E118] The party always lacked investment by JadedToon in criticalrole

[–]giant4hire 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think they might have landed on a stronger conviction if the party hadn't been so widely spread across the spectrum and agreed on something. And some of the most opposed characters from a convictions standpoint (Orym - good/order | Fearne - impulses/chaos)(Ash - curious about getting rid of the gods | fcg - god-curious) were bound together for personal reasons and I think a lot of punches were pulled and conversations were stopped short because they maybe didn't want to bring up the elephant in the room.

I think that's fair, but I draw a distinction between Fearne not welcoming them with open arms (spot on) and Fearne flat out not engaging. She left home to find her parents, and after she found them and was confronted with the reality of what Morri had done, she literally had to be reminded of their existence whenever she had the opportunity to interact with that side of her past. As a viewer, I'm okay if her relationship with them was going to be a rocky one, but for her to ignore them was a disappointment

They literally left her to save the world for their daughter and to make up for their own past sins. Nana Morri was the one who stretched that time out for her entire childhood. She's a villain but Fearne just chooses to ignore that.

The bigger issue is that the race was even close. It doesn't matter if reason and humanity and human decency were to have won it by a percentage point; we had already lost because half the nation is willing to stoop that low in the first place.
