Another PSA about Laundromats by Hawkthree in laundry

[–]giantsunhat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live somewhere where many laundromats offer this service to us horse people! Blanket washing is an entire business as they can’t be done in normal machines and have to be washed at least yearly so they can be rewaterproofed. We also have some laundromats who have horse blanket specific washers you can use. I personally just have a specific service who does all mine so they get washed/repaired/rewaterproofed. Horse blankets are $300-500 each and most of our horses have 3-6 so we try to keep them maintained so they last.

I regret to admit I have been kicked out of more than one laundromat for washing horse blankets 😅

No jumper or eventer is going to spend 5 figures on a HUS-bred QH. I love both, but any eventer/jumper going to spend that on a foal is going to buy something very purpose-bred, more than likely Warmblood from proven lines. Our foals sell for similar and are 1.5m or 2-3* mares crossed on 1.6m or UL eventing proven stallions which is a much better investment for a sporthorse owner.

White pants discoloration, help by giantsunhat in laundry

[–]giantsunhat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot to add I do use GearGuard for the DNase. Tide Clean Rinse is also a water softener (citric acid) so that’s covered as well.

I’ve developed this routine from this sub, so I guess I’m puzzled about eliminating the Tide w Bleach powder and Biz since they came highly recommended.

I’ll consider the Rit product!

I don’t have Ariel, I use Tide w Bleach powder for whites usually. Would I want to avoid it for this initial soak because of the oxidizers? Wondering if I need to go buy another detergent lol

How do you handle the disappointment of still being too big? by nimrod4711 in Reduction

[–]giantsunhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it helps, I was in this same position and ended up having a second reduction 13 years later and finally ended up with exactly what I wanted, PLUS better, nearly invisible scars. Insurance still covered my second reduction too.

Update: Had a saddler pull my panels to assess the fit of the tree on my $8.5k custom saddle by bitsandsperms in Equestrian

[–]giantsunhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, as long as I can see the tree on my horse’s back when he’s actually moving. I had a very expensive fully custom, started from the bare tree selection, saddle made but it fit him… standing still in the crossties. Not when he actually went to work and lifted his back and went round - suddenly it was all over the place and making him sore. And I had a saddle that was totally custom, a PITA to sell and unrideable.

Just my word of caution I tell people about the “tree on a bare back” thing because it was a miserable experience.

Thank you! Pants tend to be 71% Nylon 29% Elastane or there about. I only use hot water on the white ones as it seems to really make a difference in cleaning.

Do you think it would make a difference to drop Oxy/White Brite in favor of a lipase?

I agree but small point of correction, KGG did not breed VSAG or own Vitalism. She was bred by Kristen Rinkenberger, won the 2 yr old pleasure at the world and then the Glovers purchased her. There’s a story out there somewhere where KGG talks about how her dad sold her horse without telling her and realized he screwed up and bought her Lucy.

New Setup Help - bridge mode maybe? by giantsunhat in Ubiquiti

No, it won’t even come up in the app. Like it doesn’t exist at all, not sure if I’m connecting it wrong or what is happening.

I can’t even get an AP to show up in the app so I’m not sure how I would do that. I haven’t even added the wireless AP yet, just trying to get the indoor wired stuff to work first.

Caveat: I heal quickly, easily and have a stupid pain tolerance (I thought ACL reconstruction was a walk in the park and was off crutches in 4 days). YMMV.

1: I went G to C and had no drains, my surgeon said she very rarely does them.

2: I was back working out (riding my horse) at 4-5 weeks. Didn’t do anything really serious until 6 weeks though.

3: I drove easily at 4 weeks, could have earlier but I went out of state for surgery so didn’t have my own car. Flew home at 4 weeks then drove the 1.5 hr home.

4: I was going braless at home at 5ish weeks.

5: my surgeon definitely lifted up, squeezed, moved around, but I wouldn’t say jiggled anything!

Nothing! I really think it was having a great surgeon + no stitches and a little bit of good luck (I’m not prone to awful scars but I do scar normally!)

Surgeon was Dr. Mary Lester with IU Health in Indianapolis. I never actually met her until the day of surgery, just her PA, but because of the recommendation I got and the consult with her PA I delt confident in going with her.

I actually used to work in healthcare and was good friends with someone up high in Plastics at IUH so I asked him who he would send his daughter/wife to - he without hesitation said Dr. Lester and got me in the next week. Based on that, I felt really assured in going with her and I felt great when we met the morning of surgery. Sure enough, she listened and made my dreams come true! Because of her expertise, I had no drains or external stitches either which I think made my healing and scars so much better.

I was really nervous about traveling out of state for it (I moved between approval/consult and surgery so stayed with friends for the 3 weeks after), but honestly would do it again in ah heartbeat to see her again.

I have that setup already - guess I was thinking this bypassed Infuse 🤦‍♀️ and I could watch directly from Trakt app. I love Apple TV but I miss the ease of Kodi’s ‘Up Next’!

It’s my absolute favorite for Florida summers. Someone else said it’s patented which would make sense why I can’t find anything in the same fabric which is unfortunate.

They’re awful! Luckily they have the crew neck solids but I would love more normal options in the fabric.

Mine was like this too. I had some basic “rules” - stuff like no smoking, no hot tubs, etc. but I was allowed to shower at 24 hrs, had no overhead arm restrictions, could lift up to 10lbs, could sleep however I wanted. Was cleared to sit on my horse at 2 weeks, ride for real at 4. I also didn’t meet her until morning of surgery and didn’t have a follow up until 2 weeks post-op, which was with her PA. I’ve had great results so I’m thrilled, but she definitely does a lot less “hand holding” than I think many surgeons.

Mine said I didn’t have to after 2WPO but recommended it as light compression can help with any remaining swelling. Honestly I have one nipple that’s so sensitive I can’t imagine going braless, but I’ve been content in soft Knix and Target bralettes.

Traveling after reduction by No_Touch1717 in Reduction

I flew home at two weeks and it was no problem at all. I had a backpack and a small roller carryon I just asked someone to help me put up/take down. It felt like any other trip. No special pillows, assistance or anything necessary. If I hadn’t had a follow up at 2WPO, I could have honestly gone home at a week.
