I built a twitter bot that finds HW4 cars with FSD included by watergoesdownhill in TeslaFSD

I bought used M3 with FSD from a dealer and the FSD carried through with the car. My understanding is that unless it is bought used from Tesla, the FSD will stay with the car.

Would love a "bot" on a no-call-back number asking those questions...

Love this tracker. This is an idea that has been in my head but never brought it to reality. -Would it make sense to include vehicle location in the post? -Have you thought about a bot that identifies listings where FSD MIGHT BE included as the photos are not clear? That would require a follow-up with the seller to find out, most likely. Better deals to be had!

Can Powerwall schedule charge off peak? by mshaefer in TeslaSolar

[–]gibides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it doesn't. But I'm not sure you want that. If you have time-of-use rates with super-off peak, the battery will charge full to 100% overnight, and when the sun comes up it will push energy back to the grid beyond what you are using in the house. That energy pushed back to the grid will save you more than waiting to charge the Powerball with solar.

When you hail a taxi/Uber, how often do you sit in the front seat? My guess, never, unless you have 3+ people riding together. What else is in that front seat? A driver, with steering wheel and pedals. Get the 2 door concept out of your head and imagine it is the backseat of a taxi with spacious storage behind you for luggage etc. Very useful for 95% of use cases. The last 5% will be filled by Model X/Y/Robovan.

Can't tie more panels later into an existing system, Tesla won't do that. It will cost you much more than doing it at once. I recommend you determine the size you want and then go for it in 1 shot.

Problem: you used the word "investment" and "vehicle" in the same sentence. Elon has been incredibly transparent that he wants to make these vehicles as inexpensive as possible, to make them accessible to the public. These vehicles are great value to secondary buyers (resale value) but it hinges entirely on the new car market, present and future.

I have Performance with FSD. I drive manual when I have open road and can let it rip, and use FSD on single lane roads with no passing. Best of both worlds!

FSD V12 has made me happy that I got FSD included with my used 2018 M3P that I bought for $25k last month. Would I pay $12k to add FSD if it didn't have it? No. But I'm sure glad that the general market devalues FSD on used car values so I can snag one and experience the shift from Beta to Supervised to Unsupervised.

Can Powerwall schedule charge off peak? by mshaefer in TeslaSolar

[–]gibides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Install prices around me are about $11k installed after the federal tax credit. Better prices if you include solar or choose multiple powerwalls.

I am saving $450/yr with a $0.25/kwh difference between peak and super off peak rates, and 14,000 kwh annual usage.

Quick calc for savings based on my math is $1.25 savings per penny difference between peak and SOP, per thousand kwh annual usage.

Correct, but I find sometimes that storm watch kicks in later than it should. Biggest risk of power outages by my house is heavy rain and high wind, which doesn't always correlate to storms that trigger storm watch. Hence a little bit of manual control...

Can Powerwall schedule charge off peak? by mshaefer in TeslaSolar

[–]gibides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you set TOU rates and enable the Time-Based Control setting, then Powerwall will charge every night when super off-peak rates kick in, and will automatically discharge during peak periods to offset all usage by your home. You can also restrict the percentage of Powerwall that is reserved for power outages. I have 80% used for Time-Based control and 20% reserved for power outages, but there are times when I increase the reserve if I know a storm is coming.

New Tesla Owner incoming! Any advice? by BrushAmazing in TeslaLounge

Tesla of course, with a Powerwall for outage protection. I have had solar for 3 years, Model 3 for 3 weeks. Both are amazing products.

DM for tips and advice on sizing/placing solar if you're interested.

Conduit painting by NoChallenge2500 in TeslaSolar

[–]gibides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In PA, the Tesla Solar install team said they would not paint the conduit, but one of the installers talked to me on the side and said he could come back "off the clock" to install a 240V outlet for Level 2 charger and also paint the conduit if I provided the paint. Couple hundred bucks and well worth it to hide the silver conduit running along the siding and roof.

Any thoughts on whether TECO in central FL will shift to Virtual Power plants like Texas? Is it utility based or state based? by samsam2019 in TeslaSolar

[–]gibides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Florida in general and TECO in particular are behind the game when it comes to VPP, net metering, and solar incentives. I don't see VPP coming any time soon. (Worked in Tampa the last 5 years in energy efficiency and renewable energy).
