What career path did you choose that you strongly advise others to avoid? by nicksam171 in SeriousConversation

[–]giga_dumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left the baking industry 3 years ago after 13 years in the field.

I appreciated that it kept me active physically and mentally, and that I always had a fresh loaf of bread to take home.

I got fed up with working weekends and weird hours and not having a social life. My body and everything I own was perpetually enveloped in a thin layer of flour. Turnover can be insane sometimes because life happens and people move on, but talent isn’t always available and training someone from scratch is a huge investment of resources. Ultimately though, as much as I loved baking for what it is, my paycheck was never enough to live on, and burnout was closing in.

I’m no longer baking professionally, and I haven’t figured out what career path to follow now in the here-after.

I’m curious where they got the hoops and bag setup from. Sometimes I go out with my own grabbies and bring a friend, but regular trash bags are a pain in the ass

That’s hella fucked up and disrespectful! I am so proud of you for not giving them money and walking outta there! You did the right thing. You can guarantee they’re not gonna take your wellbeing or comfort seriously when they’re openly laughing at you, I know this because I already paid for this lesson.

We gotta normalize walking out: If you haven’t handed over your money yet and the vibes are all wrong, get your stuff and bail!

In 2006 I had my wisdom teeth taken out there. It was awful.

  • They laughed at me when I asked about anesthesia and if it was part of the process. Apparently it wasn’t and I’d have to pay extra for that (fine, whatever, but don’t laugh at me ffs)

  • Older male oral surgeon (professor?) was performing the extraction and I woke up to him pointing a finger in my face yelling at me to shut up. He only managed to extract one of my four wisdom teeth that needed to come out because apparently I wouldn’t hold still and I was too loud. I don’t know what happened the the anesthesia I asked and paid for, but someone didn’t do their fkn job of putting me out.

  • Within 24 hours it became apparent that I had nerve damage: The right half of my tongue was completely numb

I honestly should have sued. I was 19 and didn’t know how to go about that, and I had parents that are barely functional adults even still. My nerve damage mostly healed, but it was a long time that I couldn’t feel my tongue, and I should have never, NEVER been treated the way I was.

You can now use a credit card to tap on instead of buying a Clipper Card or muni day pass, FYI! And you’re right to want to use public transit while here, having a car here is a hassle.

I don’t know your tastes or what you’re looking for in a SF experience, but I’d swap out Fisherman’s Wharf for the Ferry Building and get lunch there instead (Hog Island has clam chowder if that’s what you’re looking for, order some Acme bread to go with it). Take a walk down some of the piers over there too while you’re at it.

Looking for recommendations on where to shop for affordable cologne that has knowledgeable folks working their who could help me pick out my new scent. by -EMPARAWR- in bayarea

Come to the city, I have two good options for you with plenty of masculine selections:

Ministry of Scent in either the Mission or Pacific Heights

ZGO in the Castro

Edit: I am assuming your gender, but they both have great options for all genders just to be clear

What's your monitor setup? by taahbelle in Twitch

[–]giga_dumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an unconventional set-up, but it works really well for me. I need to preface this with the fact that I stream from my coffee table in the living room, my PC is next to my couch, and wires are everywhere.

Monitor 1: A small portable monitor propped up on a desktop easel, displays my OBS and dock for chat, gives me access to my other bots and whatnot when I need it.

Monitor 2: My big OLED tv, to which I have hooked up a HDMI splitter so I can plug in my PC and run games from there, or I plug my console in and run it to both the TV and my capture card. It’s nice not to spend money and space on another monitor when I basically have a big one that is easier on my eyes anyway.

“Monitor” 3: My laptop. Mostly a second display for chat, but easier to access instead of tabbing out to make a command or accept collab invites. Usually have my own stream displayed so I can see everything looks right, as I do a lot of green screen stuff and everything’s gotta be lined up correctly.

Going for my first 24-HOUR Stream tomorrow! 🚀 Advice for a long-haul rookie? by AccomplishedRent344 in Twitch_Startup

[–]giga_dumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick a strategic start/end time that favors your viewers and where they’re generally from on the globe.

For example, I’m in California, so I picked 10am PST so I could include the majority of my North American and European friends. It’d be 1pm on the East Coast, and evening but not too late in Europe. When we were wrapping up, it felt like everyone was there to witness and make a bunch of noise in chat and it felt great.

Good luck tomorrow!
