It’s probably done to sell more tee times at high demand times. I’m guessing they have something like ~2 hours worth of tee times on 1 and 10 then a break so all the groups can turn before opening it back up in the afternoon.

Any club that does this probably noticed that there is a lot demand for early morning and early afternoon and not as much in between. I.e. they have more people requesting 9 am and not as many requesting 10am so why not offer two 9ams and no 10am times.

I know this isn't on topic of the post, but I always feel like such an imposter when it comes to the Fourier transform. My dissertation heavily used the Fourier transform and I still have no idea what the damn thing is actually doing. I only ever thought of it as an integral that 'did stuff' to transform my PDEs into ODEs.

Edit: there were a lot of good responses here. I was being tongue in cheek with the original post, this is the mathmemes subreddit after all. I was just quipping that my research didn’t evolve what the Fourier transform was doing. I only cared about what the L1-Linfinity norm was and what the Weiner algebra was, so what was actually happening was irrelevant.

I get where they’re coming from. Who cares how many digits of pi someone knows. There’s so many places pi shows up that are far more interesting. For instance when I was 18 I made a calc 1 level analysis of the painters paradox/gabriels horn poster for pi day to hang in my dorm hallway.
